As a new viewer I gotta say your words about the stealth genre and splinter cell have really solidified you in my mind as a man with good taste. I too am hoping we one day see a revitalization of the AAA stealth scene. I miss hiding in shadows. By the by, if you enjoy those types of splinter cell stealth games, I'd recommend any of Antonio Freyre/merlino games' titles. "No Sun to Worship" is the big one.
@@TotallyTubularJonathan I'd also recommend the original Thief duology (Thief: Gold and Thief II: The Metal Age). They're two of the quintessential immersive sims and directly inspired the stealth mechanics used in Splinter Cell, except with more sprawling levels to explore. The 2021 indie game, Filcher, also does a great job with these stealth systems but sadly hasn't gotten very much attention.
I’ve been binging your channel man. Excellent content. Love the retro game coverage too! It really is a shame we can’t play any Splinter Cell games on ps4/ps5
I mostly play retro games, so (going by the definition you used in the video), these are the retro games I played through for the first time this year (not in the order that I played them, though): - Final Fantasy I - Ultima V: Warriors of Destiny - Ultima VI: The False Prophet - Ultima VII: The Black Gate - Ultima Underworld: The Stygian Abyss - Ultima Underworld II: Labyrinth of Worlds - Heretic - Mega Man X2 - Tactics Ogre - Doom 64 - Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver - Soul Reaver 2 - Timesplitters - Timesplitters 2 - Serious Sam: The First Encounter - Serious Sam: The Second Encounter - Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow - Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin - Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia - S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl - Condemned: Criminal Origins - Deus Ex: Human Revolution - The Legend of Heroes: Trails from Zero I also replayed Mega Man X and replayed both Thief: Gold and Thief II: The Metal Age on expert.
Lunch. I always replay old classic games, I was happy to see the red alert/command & conquer series on the steam winter sale for just 6 dollars. So I've been playing that as of recently!
12:47 I grew up in the 90s and primarily played Super Mario World and Super Mario All-Stars when it comes to the Mario games and I also played a lot of Super Mario 64. A friend of mine did play Super Mario Sunshine and I kept pestering him because I wanted to play that game you don't look like a lot of fun but I never got to play it. Someday I'll play it. I was already an adult by the time Super Mario Galaxy came out so I just straight up bought the game and played through the whole thing. Okay maybe not the whole thing but the main story.
To be honest, I don't think your missing much on Sunshine. Not that the game is awful. But out of the 3D Mario games, it's the worst one. It's the most unpolished, obnoxious and tedious game of the 3D Mario family. So getting Galaxy was a better choice.
I had to put the MvC Fighting Collection on my Christmas wishlist the moment I heard it was announced. And to say I played a lot of retro games this year is an understatement.
This year I picked up a PS2 and finished Max Payne 2, Deus Ex, Project Eden, Prince of Persia and Black. All still hold up great. And I finished Universal Soldier, Sonic 2, and Castle of Illusion on Genesis, and Top Gear 2 on Snes. I'm very pleased with this list considering it's on top of finishing several PS4 and Xbox 360 games.
I’m currently playing through the Crash N. Same Trilogy. I bought it after replaying Spyro Reignited last month, a series I’ve loved since its original PS1 versions. As far as I can, so far, Crash had nothing else going for it besides the difficulty. The levels aren’t memorable, the music isn’t memorable, the bosses aren’t interest beyond their visual design. It seems like Naughty Dog didn’t know how to make a good mascot platformer, so they just resorted the old NES / arcade tactic of making it super punishing and throwing in a bunch of difficult optional collectibles for getting 100%. And people criticize modern games for having too much padding. Crash 1 is basically _only_ padding. Hopefully the later games are better than this.
Having grown up with the Crash Bandicoot trilogy (as well as the Spyro trilogy), I agree that it's much more linear and old-school in terms of design. The first Crash Bandicoot is a very punishing game, and, in spite of my nostalgia for it, I don't think it's that great a 3D platformer, all things considered. I strongly prefer both 2 and 3 by a wide margin over it. Those two games have their share of iffy parts, too, but they offer more variety and more interesting levels than the first game. Also, Warped actually has a very solid boss roster, similar to Spyro 2 and 3. All in all, I do prefer the Spyro trilogy over the Crash trilogy, but I do think Crash 2 & 3 are significant improvements over Crash 1.
Crash Bandicoot is more of a linear 3D platformering game rather than being the open sandbox/collecthon like Mario 64, Banjo-Kazooie or Spyro were. Not that it's a bad thing. But you also have gems to collect that are optional & only if your going for 100% completion for a true ending or something to unlock after beating the game and for Crash 2 & 3 specifically, there are crystals that you need them to unlock new levels; which isn't hard to find since there be at you because of the linear level designs. The series is more difficult than something like Mario or Spyro. But that's what makes the series stand out, along with the mcguffins to collect. Crash 1 is the worst though because of how obnoxious & padding the game is more than good challenge. But Crash 2 & Crash 3 are big improvement over the first one cause they added power-ups and other variety that makes up for it. Personally, I prefer Crash over Spyro. Aside from the first games. But you can't go nothing wrong with both games.
@@rpgfan1187 First impressions of Crash 2: hell of a lot better than Crash 1. I’m actually enjoying my time with this one. It especially helps that Crash now has movement abilities that give you options when approaching obstacles. It’s no longer a precision platformer where you have to time every jump perfectly due to gaps being the exact width of your jump and can’t be cleared any other way. I can definitely see myself completing this one, including the optional collectibles. I threw in the towel with the first game, even though I’m fairly certain I was on the final island. Getting through levels was becoming tedious, and trying to finish time trials when you constantly die to the same obstacles gets so boring.
@@Phirestar Cool! Crash 2 and 3 are definitely a lot more enjoyable in my opinion, compared to the first one. Another thing worth noting is that the N. Sane Trilogy made Crash 1 even harder than it was on PS1 for some reason. I'm not sure if they just modeled all of the jumping mechanics after the third game (which is the least demanding in that department), but Crash 1 felt a lot harder on this collection because of how the physics worked. It felt like you didn't maintain your momentum if you bounced on a box more than once, which made it harder to clear gaps than it was in the original.
The hottest girl in Dragon Ball is definetly Lunch. The retro game I played this year and enjoyed the most is def God Hand, Could you do like a ranking of games by specific director like by Shinji Mikami or Hideo Kojima ? I have seen it done with movie directors and I would love the same be done with games.
