    Can you share your thoughts of Why not getting an eg-1 and going for a Lagom instead? Also why 102 when 98 has a bigger burr platform

    • @FerchoVallese
      @FerchoVallese  3 месяца назад +1

      I didn't get the EG-1 because to be fully honest I didn't have the best customer experience with Weber Workshops.. Even the crappiest companies I've dealt with try to sort out issues ASAP, while WW goes round and round on the issue and even blames it on the user. Just to mention one incident, I use WW bean cellars. After a while the lid started failing on a few of them. I emailed WW with the issue, expecting an immediate replacement. Emails came and went, and they just said that it's normal and the defective cellars work as expected. I pick them up from the lid while in the freezer and the entire thing falls off.. Definitely not what I expect from a working product (all the rest still perform well).
      On the other hand, I heard great things from Option-O customer service.. That's why I went with them. Every time I had a question or some issue I emailed them and they provided all the requested information and tools needed to solve the issue.

    Why do you prefer the conical for brew, and flat for espresso? What brew method do you use?

    • @FerchoVallese
      @FerchoVallese  11 месяцев назад

      In my case more of a convenience thing (having each already set for the grind size i'm looking for). The Key has a particularly high clarity conical burr (all other conical burrs I've tried before give more body than clarity). If I could get only one grinder it would be the 01 though. Works great for both espresso and brew. For brews I use V60 and a Moccamaster.

    Great Setup! Looks very satisfying!! :) Would you recommend the small scale for home use?

    • @FerchoVallese
      @FerchoVallese  8 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks! Which scale? I have three: The Skale scale for the Decent drip tray, the Acaia Pearl S, and the Acaia Lunar (not in the video). The Lunar is the smaller one. I use the Pearl the most in general, but the Lunar is the best for going under a grouphead in an espresso machine. If by "home use" you mean weighting food, ingredients, etc, all of them will work (even though the Pearl is probably the better suited for this for its weight capacity), but to be honest I wouldn't use such an expensive scale for food preparation. There are way cheaper scales that work great for that.

    • @sergen1338
      @sergen1338 8 месяцев назад

      Thank you very much for the answer!
      Im not going to use it for Food preps, it was more like a „Home use“ Compared to a „commercial use“ like in a Coffee Shop. Im new to the game, just trying to get a nice setup that i can use for years without changing a lot 😅

    • @FerchoVallese
      @FerchoVallese  8 месяцев назад

      @@sergen1338 I've been extremely happy with my Acaias. I got some cheaper scales that also work (and have a timemore at the office), but if you can afford, Acaia is the way to go.

    Love your setup Fercho, thanks for showing us.
    I'm curious about your use of the Key grinder for filter coffee. Have you compared the filter coffee produced by the Key to the coffee from the Mizens in the 01? How do they stack up for espresso?
    I'm eyeing a similar setup to yours so super curious what you think about the grinders for the different brew methods after having them in your home for a bit.

    • @FerchoVallese
      @FerchoVallese  8 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks! I’ve done some comparison for filter and French press. I think my observations from espresso are similar here: 01 with mizen seem to have higher clarity than the Key. Is it a night and day difference? No, not at all. Consistency is higher with the 01 though.
      The 01 workflow is also nicer than the Key, but the Magic tumbler from the key is unbeatable (to the point that I’m thinking on getting another one for the 01 -yes, it works with the 01 base magnets-).
      Is nice to have both grinders and experiment with them, but if I could only have one it would be the 01.

    • @tristam.
      @tristam. 8 месяцев назад

      Thanks for the detailed response! Interesting re the clarity. Do you think the Key wins out in the texture department or is the Mizen still doing slightly better?
      I can definitely see the magic tumbler being the superior workflow choice. That's funny you mention the magnets being compatible, I was just about to ask that!
      My current plan is to get the Key for filter and then later (when space permits) get a espresso machine and the 01. The smaller footprint will be easier to sell to my wife..

    • @FerchoVallese
      @FerchoVallese  8 месяцев назад +1

      @@tristam. For filter the texture is similar, can't really tell them apart. For espresso specially smaller ratios the 01 wins in texture (I would have expected the opposite due to the conicals). If you care about aesthetics and space, go for the Key. Ideally get the V2, as from what I've read most, if not all, the issues with V1 have been resolved. Also, the 01 is a lot noisier than the Key. True, it doesn't really run for a long time, but it's something that bothers me every time I use.

    • @tristam.
      @tristam. 8 месяцев назад

      I guess the texture thing lines up with what I've been reading regarding the Key having quite a flat burr profile, especially for a conical grinder. Thanks again for the input, truly invaluable. Space, aesthetics and noise are all super important to me (and my wife!) so will probably end up going for the Key now and maybe down the line look at the 01.@@FerchoVallese

    • @FerchoVallese

      It’s a tamping mat. I went with that model because it covers the corner of the counter meaning it’s more flexible to different portafilters. You can find it here: amzn.to/45XbdGD

    • @FerchoVallese
      @FerchoVallese  10 месяцев назад

      Yes, I learnt this quite early as I was buying coffee in 1kg bags to save some money and always have coffee on hand. By breaking down in 250g bags and then vacuum packing and freezing them, I could stop the aging process.
      This way you always have fresh coffee in hand!
