- This shows what I thought was a vintage doorbell in action (see UPDATE below!). It uses cams and chime to play the first part of "How Dry I Am" (see UPDATE # 2 below). Very interesting and nice - made of metal and plastic (possibly bakelite).
UPDATE: See comment below regarding what this actually is!!! Turns out it is a warning chime from an old Westinghouse laundromat dryer! THANKS to "Baltimore Alarms and Fans" and others!
UPDATE # 2: There is another song with the same tune called "Rivers of Babylon". Thanks

Hi, this music box unit came out of a 1950's Westinghouse Laundromat dryer. These were used as the end of cycle signal when the dryer was done, or if the door was opened during the cycle. Cute little feature that Westinghouse implemented that they should totally come back with. Yours sounds amazing, very crisp and clean.
Thanks so much for this information. I am actually selling this on eBay and will add this information to the listing as it gives some history.
We had one and my mother was very amused by the tune which was more usually associated with inebriation. The dryer was in the basement and this was easy to hear from upstairs.
I know it's for a westinghouse dryer but this would be cool for a doorbell
Thanks for sharing this , David K. I just purchased this from you. I am from and live in Pittsburgh, on the east side of town, and am very familiar with the rich history of our region, of which Westinghouse has played a most vital role. Very excited! Thank you again!
I am very happy this is going to a good home - one connected with its history and where it will be appreciated! Enjoy!
Came out of a 1954 westinghouse dryer
It is amazing that this contraption and its beautiful music was hooked up to a dryer of all things!
Ben Cortman brought me here
Rivers of Babylon
Why does that song's name sound wrong to me
Thanks for watching and for your comment! "How Dry I am" is the name of the song as I know it. There may be other names? Here is a link to a piano version of it ruclips.net/video/8_IcNEYGd1o/видео.html. Obviously this music box has only a very short portion of the song.

Apparently there is a different song with this same tune! I just remembered a comment below and they mention the song "Rivers of Babylon" which indeed has the same basic sound. Cool! See a version of Rivers of Babylon at: ruclips.net/video/l3QxT-w3WMo/видео.html. Thanks to MoskitoGirl0220
@@davidk4145 A grandfather clock would sound great with this song!
@@immortalgamingyt6182 That would be an interesting sound. I think you have a hit song on your hands!
