WOW! What a blast from the past!!! My mother had this exact washer - and it's matching dryer. I was obsessed with them as a toddler and would watch them do their thing for hours. Congratulations, Travis! Nice job! You have a new sub. Years later she had a 1968 Jet Cone Rapidry 1000 Frigidaire washer, what a machine!!!
It looks so good! That’s a valuable piece. Now it could be used in a film set in the 50s. Imagine an opening sequence with big band music and a montage of display model machines like this sitting on the sales floor. Comedy drama about an appliance salesman
Thanks for keeping our history alive and showing us all the blood sweat and tears that goes into bringing a beautiful machine back to life fabulous job I’ll be waiting for the t shirts now 🤣
WOW what a fantastic job my friend, getting the machine up and running again ,it's so nice to see a labour of love Come back to life ,iv not long finished rebuilding and painting my 1958 BENDIX DIALAMATIC here in the UK , took me nearly 2 years as the clutch system in the gearbox had to be rebuilt ,but anyway never mind me.well done you
You did an incredible job on this classic. My ex partner gave me a new model slant front. Control panel on the back with a couple of cycles. I wish I still had it. Lasted until I moved to Vegas in 90. I’ve only had front loaders since, but my Westi was the best. I miss the first spray rinse. Keep up the very good videos 👍👍👍
Wow that's incredible. I agree the built in scale was a neat idea that they should bring back. I think later models had a small dial to turn to adjust water level based on the size of the load of laundry. Also have you seen the live commercial where Betty Furness (the spokeswoman) ran this washer against 3 others? They ran 6 towels with dirt and soap to prove that the westinghouse could outwash any other machine on the market. You should check it out 😊 Once again, what an amazing job you did 👏
Another great restoration and re-assembly Travis, worthy of all the hours put it in , love the explaining of the paint process - definitely a fine art !!
What a fantastic job . The attention to detail is brilliant and love the way you make the restore look so easy …… even though it’s always a challenge … A real credit to your ability and skill as a restorer . Hope there will be plenty more of these videos to come . Best wishes
Nice work! Glad you have one of these. Don't know why this type of design was discontinued. Seemed a nice middle-of-the-road type design that was halfway between front load and top load. Just needed more research and development🤔
I actually have the matching dryer to that washing machine. It works, and it’s neatest feature is when it’s done drying it has a little xylophone in it, and it plays how dry I am. Never seen the matching washer until now.
What a wonderful machine. If they made front load washing machines like this, I would possibly buy one. They at least use enough water, and do a great job cleaning laundry.
Man I wonder 🤔 how you get these machines from junk condition and turn them in to pieces of art work that work good as well as well as look beautiful. I absolutely wish I had the ability to do that!
Correct me if I'm wrong but liquid detergent when used in washing machines (particularly ones in America) will oxidized the metal within the machine. We usually see this nowadays with Samsung washers with eroded spiders. I can't imagine what using liquid detergents will do to a retro machine like this over time, as I don't believe liquid laundry detergents existed back in its day.
That washing machine is 70 years old or something like that and I bet it can outlast any top loader or front loader today ? We have a top loader and we’ve had to replace them 3 times since we’ve been in this new house we had a I think LG front loader in our old house before it burnt down when we lived in South Carolina ? I have always been an appliance enthusiast for some reason ever since I was a little girl I took the old top loader my dad and mom had that died and I disassembled it and found out the capacitor went out? And that was it? My mom said oh well we like front loaders better anyways I don’t know all the part names in any washing machine just basic stuff like control panel drum agitator but the inside of the machine I really don’t know lol wires easy ? lid/door switch ? I never knew how to bypass them? I don’t know anything about dryers just how to work them to do laundry. Like a lot of people know how to do.
Travis where did you get the door boot from ? Looking for a Westinghouse space mate boot … we have them here in the UK badged inter the name ENGLISH Electric and it looks just like the old Boot you took off your machine !!

Just got to the end, god imagine being a kid back then, like 4-5 and watching the washing machine in all its glory. Those would be great memories
Its been a real treat watching you restore this back to working condition, Travis! Congrats on the hard work!

We had that washer when I was a kid. Love to see how you've restored yours.
Amazing hello from Italy
That’s awesome thank you for watching

Thank you I appreciate that
Love the machine, I love the sounds they make going through the cycles. Looking forward to the mix master being serviced.
This is absolutely beautiful washing machine and your videos are amazing. ❤️
Thank you :)
I love these kind of videos! It feels as if I’m going back in time!
We didn't have these in Australia but we had one very similar made by Hoover with the wash program cartridge
Beautiful restoration and machine.
Great work! Congratulations on a job well done!
Awesome restoration!! Beautiful machine

Sooo jealous. But sooo happy for you. Such a beautiful machine. Love it.
7:25 FIAT washers for the Italian market had that as well (they were rebadged Westinghouse washers...) 😜
Looks so good I’ll hate to use it. Great job!
Thank you!

My mother had a 1950 model. Lasted 20 years.
Great Job! Thumbs up for your patience -)

thanks for this series
Great work! Thanks.
Beautiful
Is the machine still working
Increiblemente bella
Can you please make a video of you putting it inside next to your westington dryer so we can see how good they look next to each other
Were you not able to source the outer knobs? Fantastic job as always and a quality piece of history!!👊🏻
No still trying to find them

When America was light years ahead of the rest of the world. What a marvelous machine.
When we were ahead yes
This is certainly different! Like Number 399. This is cool for the same reason the car/truck videos are.
Interested to know why the underside of the panels weren’t painted ? Looks like they would rust quite quickly without some protection.
How much did the total restoration cost from start to finish
I want one of these!!

The first liquid detergent ever sold in the U.S. was Wisk in 1956.
It looks great! Have you been able to locate a knob to replace the broken one yet?
No :/
Have you been able to find the broken knob to replace?
What was the dial on the left for?
What did you use for the rubber boot? I know they don't make them any more.
Why didn't you refinish the inside of the kickplate?
Wont get any front loader today last as long as this one has and now be back in service again
Love it ❤
I love it
even if i was not born in the 1950s i was born in 1983 to me the older washer work better than Todays washers
I want one!
I would also convert her with modern tech.

Boot you took off your machine !!
The original style 1953 boots aren’t available. The gray boot I got is from a later 50s machine that I had to modify to fit
Was the later boot available on the internet ? Is it appropriate to share where you got it from ?
👍👍👍👍👍
Maybe you could find someone who has a 3D printer and could make some knobs for you
sure beats the junk we have now
sweet
Good god that was a lot of detergent
Too many suds.
