    Its genuinely heartwarming to see Danny Devito remember his early days of acting and getting misty eyed reminiscing about growing up in an Italian home.

    For all his humor, the man is a GIANT (obviously figuratively), just a brilliant actor. I'll never forget the first time I saw him in a serious role, in Hoffa. You'll never think of him the same after that. Just an astonishing actor.

    • @Kanjo_Bazooie

    • @rhmayer1
      @rhmayer1 2 года назад +2

      @@Kanjo_Bazooie Yes, and although that may not have been his directorial debut, I think it was Hoffa that established him as a really great director in addition to being a really great actor. That was really a marvelous film, with Jack Nicholson also giving one of his best performances. I recall just the opening scene - left a lasting impression. Now I want to go and watch it again. The guy is so much more than a great comedic actor. I guess he'd fall into that "national treasure" category. Oh - I see the next commenter below said exactly that. I'll have to go and give that comment a thumbs up.

    Danny DeVito is so underrated. From Cuckoo's Nest to Taxi to Wiseguys to Twins to War of the Roses to Get Shorty to LA Confidential to even a brief cameo in Goldmember or Friends, he's always a welcome presence. I don't even like Batman Returns honestly but he's by far the best thing in it. He just elevates material.

    I can identify with the whole making the sauce thing. My mother and father would always make sauce every Sunday. Huge pot. Italian sausages. Meatballs. Big hunk of pork. After church, my father and I would go to the Italian bakery and get three loaves of bread. Inevitably, one loaf would be eaten before we got home. But when we are home, one of the loaves would be torn apart, and he would go to the sauce and sneak. Mom would always yell you're going to lose your appetite to get away from the sauce.

    Love that he mentioned Vincent Schiavelli, one of the great, mostly unsung "oh, it's THAT guy" actors. They had to have gone back to at least the shooting of "Cuckoo's Nest". Danny DeVito just seems like such a great guy, and the fact that he fully embraces his "weird" fame these days only makes him more likeable.
    But he''s wrong about the George Costanza character. Jason Alexander is a fantastic actor, and he looks like he looks. The character however was a complete Larry David self-insert.
