  • The Toyota Innova may rule the MPV roost, but if you want a more luxurious MPV, it's a long stretch to the Mercedes-Benz V-class. Kia has identified this gap in the market and will soon launch the Kia Carnival. What can you expect from this big people mover? Renuka Kirpalani tells you just that.

    Viewers! What do you think about the Kia Carnival? Is it worth a premium over the Toyota Innova? And could it be the MPV that finally dethrones it? Let us know in the comments. #TeamAutocar

      @@JaspreetSingh-hf3rz Innova is a body on frame type of construction, it means the car's body is on a frame type chassis. I hope kia doesnt get carried away and price it high. 27-35 ex-showroom sounds high. 28-37 on road or 23-31 ex showroom is the ideal price. Atleast introductory..
    Also please realise it misses out on lots of features compared to international model, like memory drivers seats, electric adj passenger seats, 360 camera, ventillated passenger seats, larger touchscreen, certain autonomic aids and so on. So, all those features cutting i hope is because of a competitive price tag..

      It's a direct competitor of the Chrysler Pacifica in the US. I was wondering when India will get cars in this segment. Innova performing so well WITHOUT all those features I guessed a car WITH all these features will definitely increase the base price since Innova itself start upwards 22lacs. With all those features at that price I think it's a bargain.

    1. Sliding doors, coz sliding door usually relates to commercial/tourist used vehicles .
    2. If it will cost 35 lacs max then it falls right into fortuner and endeavour territory afa the price is concern and those two r hard to beat at that price point.

    This will be the perfect car to upgrade from our current Innova. Though I'm a bit pissed with the fact that KIA didn't give us all the bells and whistles here in India but then again this car hasn't been officially launched so here's hoping that we get most of the features that international customers get like ventilated seats, 360 degree camera, memory seats and more. Kia shouldn't skimp on features to reduce the price because anyone shopping for cars above 20L will not be hesitant to spend a few lakhs more for a well kitted car.

    I think the reason Kia haven't announced the prices yet is because it probably is not going to be really competitive. It is a fact that the segment just above the Innova/Marazzo/Hexa was vacant and Kia did a great job in levelling it up. But this can also pave way for the same Innova/Marazzo/Hexa lineup to come forward with a premium version of theirs to compete with Kia. And that is the war which Kia has to look forward to win. IMO, the Innova (and Hexa 4x4) is still the sweet spot between too big and too small. Plus the fact that it is rear wheel drive and it is a Toyota.

    Great launch.. Carnival Limousine (the top variant) is really exciting me.. But for such a big vehicle, the 360-view camera shouldn't have been left out, a feature offered in the Carnival/Sedona globally.. Also, why is the seat ventilation missed out in the passenger front seat? Kia should add these features, especially in the top-end Limousine vatiant, as people won't mind that much extra price for the same..

    If used as a commercial vehicle or as a personal family mover on hilly roads, the front wheel drive won't be a very nice thing to have. With all the load behind the front wheel will tend to free spin. As compared, the rear wheel drives push the vehicle nicely. Experienced this myself so not a hypothetical statement.
    By the way what is the weight of the engine, because that will answer my question quite easily.

    Toyota is successful because of reliability of the Toyota engine. Kia certainly have more features but there is a long way to go for them. Competition is always good.

    So you telling me that if a person has have 40 lakh to spend on a car ,he will not buy a merc or
    bmw or jaguar or audi or
    Endeavour or Fortuner or Land rover And instead will buy a 7 seater car which he will use for family trip of his 7 family members
    Which will be happening once in a year
    And for the rest of the year he will be staring at those empty seats everyday while going to work and think "aha i bought some practicality instead of some relatively non degrading brand value..!!"

    • @amaysingh8928
      @amaysingh8928 5 лет назад +2

      Land rover, mercedes are quite expensive to maintain. fortuner and endavour are suv's. They also have 3rd row which will also feel emty. If you have joint family you need a bigger car. Just compare it with innova. Innova has reliability plus point and rest everthing goes to kia

    • @dipu94321
      @dipu94321 5 лет назад +3

      Someone like me would. No car is degrading if you can find a use for it. That's a very limiting mindset to have. And yes, I would rather have the functionality and practicality to do family engagements at a whim than invest in a better engine that i will never get to use unless on highways, and then have to rent cars for family engagements

    • @kpl3373
      @kpl3373 5 лет назад +3

      Top end is around 32-35...You get a more powerful engine in this...you get more space...more features...its a personal choice if you wanna flex in a bmw or audi and pay 30-40k maintenance a month...or rather have a powerful engine n still have decent mileage yet have less maintenance..this decision is really what an individual wants...expensive taste or being practical...also when repairing costs come into consideration that's also a problem...luxury cars would cost 3 times...insurance would be relatively high...depreciation would be higher...buying a top end model of a mid range company is better than buying a base model of a luxury company...

      The basic landrover starts at 60 lakh on road, the basic mercedes, bmw at about 48/50 lakh on road, 40 lakh may not even fetch you an endeavour (on road). Just saying

    It is sold as Kia Sedona in the US which is equipped with a 3.3 litre V6 engine putting out more horsepower and torque for much less price. Honda odyssey and Toyota Sienna leads the MPV segment in the US by providing more passenger as well as storage space compared to the Sedona/Carnival.

    Apart from the features between innova and carnival. Carnival wins. But what about performance and suspension as new innova gets better suspension in 2021. Which one to choose? I prefer cruise most of the times. Innova around 30 L. Whereas carnival prestige 35L is it really worth-able of paying 5 L for carnival. Features i get all better compare to innova. But ride quality, Suspension, Durability of engine. Can you please suggest.

    And the back seats were comfortable for my kids
    The resopnse of the engine is little bit slow sometimes but it has a powerful engine when compared with other MPV'S
    it was 27.5 lakhs , at this price its ok to buy for a family of 4 or 5 (if you can spend the money)

    KIA Carnival is just massive in proportions and is fully loaded. This company has just entered the Indian market and has got such a name in manufacturing good and slightly affordable cars with luxury features in it.
    But it is an offset for the Indian car companies like Tata which should now start manufacturing of fully loaded cars with premium features in it and still make it affordable for Indian consumers.

    While it’s good, it’s really not going to shake the market here in US when it launches in 2021 October. The days of MPV are gone. Consumers would rather have a 8 seat Full Size SUV. It will meet the same fate in India. It’s best for rentals and hotels/travel agencies

    Been following KIA since a long time (Australian Open). Saw the review of 2020 model 5-6 months ago on an official Canada/UK channel, the showroom guy gave an extensive review. Knew Carnival was coming at the end of 2019 then & an article had speculated it may undercut Innova but i was expecting the pricing at least to be same as Innova are may be 1lac more, but the onroad price for this will be arnd 28-29lakhs, which overshoots my budget by quite an amount.
    The length of the car will make it mostly to be used for Long distance travel. I'm pretty confused now whether this car is worth the investment? It's an excellent car, been waiting for the India launch. I'll prolly wait for PSA group & the new Chinese company which will be entering the market in sometime & see what will they offer in MPV's.
