    People comment too much based on sheer personal antipathy, claque behavior or sullen nostalgia in RUclips. This performance is really well sung. Not the best role for her, it clearly stretches her to the very limits of her voice, but she pulls it off even though it is obvious this is not the best role for her voice. She has the stage persona and all the dramatic and musical skills for it, though, and musically her middle voice is lush, dark-ish and dense enough, and her low notes good enough to sing a more dramatic role without sounding completely overparted as many others in the past (including some that are idolized - of course only those that are long retired or even dead). The high pianissimo notes are wonderful, much better than most in the last years. All of that said, I hope she focus more on roles that fit her better, like the lyric and lyric spinto repertory of later Verdi.

      She’s a pretty ambitious person, so I don’t know if she will start to do those roles (also she has admitted she could care less about her fach, and she doesn’t even like being compared to a lyric soprano). Her looks also fit the lyric and lyric spinto roles better than this (though Callas was herself quite a looker back in the day).

      Idk. It's sung almost like how a lyric soprano would sing the role except her middle and lower notes are throaty and hollow. They have a kind of darkness but no depth, no core. She's too young to be having these kinds of problems here and there are perhaps actual dramatic sopranos that can sing the role and make it more exciting. From what I've seen of her she has the clout to get these roles but she's not vocally or musically prepared to do them justice.

    During the live Met Opera streaming they said that this part called for an "ugly voice" as instructed in the manuscript by Verdi himself, so her voice is not supposed to sound pretty cause she is sleepwalking, and her guilt is being revealed to her.

      This is the trouble with people like you who are too literally minded and forget that early and middle Verdi was still a bel canto composer .Verdi was not asking for a *literally* ugly voice .

    I love her voice. A healthy, stable sound all over the range. It gives me comfort . There is warmth and little darkness in it. Reminds me of liquid chocolate somehow. Lady Macbeth might require ugliness and brutality, but Ana pulls it off her way beautifully.

    Half of her higher range is Gilda and the lower part has somewhat developed in a very interesting way. Unfortunately the timbre itself is not that of a LAdy Macbeth..at least on the vocal level of stamina, vocal attacks and edge of singers HUGE singers of this role like Verrett, Dimitrova and not even Marrocu, Makris...and I am not even gonna mention La Divina because it would be unfair. But Netrebko has the good technique and theatricals that helps....but she just lacks what is most important. The voice quality for THIS specific role. I did not hate it.

    • @crazyorganist1609
      @crazyorganist1609 5 лет назад +1

      She does have the theatrics but I completely agree with what you're saying. I might also add that she sings with absolutely no emotion whatsoever in a role that absolutely demands it.

    • @myrabyanka5442
      @myrabyanka5442 2 года назад

      One can sing something technically, but not be suited for the role. She's no Turandot, Lady Macbeth, Abagaile, Leonora in Trovatore, but she'll do them all to the detrement of her good lyric voice.

    Ma quanta invidia riscuote questa bravissima e, un dì, bellissima Cantante! Si consideri lo sforzo vocale che ha compiuto per passare dal soprano leggero di bella voce cremosa, estesa dell'Elisir, Traviata, Puritani, fino ad arrivare a Leonora del Trovatore, Aida e ora perfino Lady Macbeth. da Lirico leggero belcantista a lirico spinto fino al drammatico. Dicano ciò che vogliono gli invidiosi, o comunque i detrattori di Anna! Ma la Netrebko e Francesco Meli, oggi, sono le due più importanti voci liriche attuali; quelle che fanno il tutto esaurito nei più importanti Teatri del Mondo.

      @@adele.t4079 Hope dies last... either that or your standards must be pretty low if you believe "incredible" singers grow on trees .Yep ,it's her personal "interpretation" .It's always "personal" when the singer can't do justice to the composer ,or has terrible taste . Gigli's sobbing was personal too , as was MDM's screaming ,and neither had anything to do with the musical score ,the composer's intentions ,or bel canto .But when the only tool in your toolbox is a hammer...

    Lady Macbeth is a dramatic coloratura role. When has Netrebko ever sung roles that prepare her for the Lady, a role that very few singers can do justice to? I can think of Verrett and Zampieri as good examples. And a lot of struggle. Just like here.

    Effettivamente Verdi ho letto che avrebbe preferito che in quest’aria la cantante cantasse male proprio per dare idea del sonnambulismo e per il personaggio. Beh lei ha rispecchiato in pieno il cantar male. Tutta ingolata per carità. Cosa ci vedono per chiamarla sempre e tutte le volte con tutte le bravi cantanti che ci sono. I misteri

    This is really very bad singing. Lady Macbeth requires a type of voice that Netrebko doesn't have at all. It is a pity she is now trying to sing dramatic roles unsuitable to her. She should stick to lyrical roles instead.
