Great review and comparison. I was going between the bose and the jbl for like a month, but being a jbl fan, having the x-treme 2 and charge 4, knowing how they work, I went with the jbl and I don't regret it for a second. For a soundbar without anything else, it manages to take me very close to the movie theatre mood. :D
GC, you did a terrific job on this review. Objective, fair, and VERY informative and helpful. I thought the Bose sounded best too, and was glad you did too. Was happy about that because I love the brand AND that Alexa is offered with this unit. I can't thank you enough for helping me make up my mind.....I was driving myself crazy until I saw this. Thank you so much!
Bose sounds the best, period. Don't let gimmicks of how many speakers are inside or how they are positioned. None of that matters. Only matters what you hear. Pay attention to the clarity of the individual elements, it's much more evident here with the Bose.
So i have both the samsung s60b, the newer s60a and the jbl bar 5 multibeam. I can tell you the JBL is a really solid all in one package and sounds quite impressive for its size and does everything pretty well. The hdmi pass-through is not optional these days imo at these prices. The Samsung is NOT in my opinion an all in one at all. The sub is required unless the only thing you care about is clarity and dialog as it does pretty much trounce the JBL for these. An interesting note is i tested a dolby atmos Bose demo on them among many many things and there were literally notes the Samsung hit or showed presence (Generally Brighter ones) that the JBL wouldn't even register regardless of setting (which isn't much). The Samsung can be dialed in more, but with no thump at all. It did however show the presence of one extremely low note also the JBL couldn't which i found odd. You couldn't feel it at all, but you could tell it was there. My YAS-209 sub found it, some Fluance Ai41Speakers also found it, the JBL it basically didn't exist must be a cutoff on that frequency for protection?). With the sub the Samsung honestly is on another level (it has tweeters) because the bar just hits mids and highs with a fidelity the JBL cant, but its because they added all the bass they had to sacrifice something. basically the Samsung is far better with the sub and u can get them both for around 400 (the rear speakers for additional 100 making it a complete little system) when there are sales and the JBL around 270. As for an all in one the JBL is very solid and can sound like it has a sub "almost". It is enough for most people and if a sub or 2nd outlet aren't an option. What they crammed into such a small box is truly impressive. It can at times punch above its own head more commonly in music and sounds like its thumping into a wall (generally as long as the bass isn't above 3 or at max volumes this isn't a problem). This never happens with the Samsung no matter how high you take it due to how its programmed, it also can get much louder with better clarity (again tweeters). Maybe this will help someone. I had a lot of fun and found it interesting. Value your reviews and watch most of them! Both have strengths and weaknesses.
@@kevinporitzker7204 I definately do recommend it with caveat that it benefits massively from its subwoofer and for me it's an essential addon.l. I was able to pick up the sub around $180 on Amazon and the rears for around 100. For the cost and size it's hard to beat the sound it's capable of. Very much a baby q990b which I have on my main tv.
Very high detail & comprehensive comparison. The JBL has the most controlled balanced sound on highs , mids , and low frequency. The Bose is a bit exaggerated in high frequency range sound that can make fatigue after a while. The Samsung did not satisfy me. Muffled sound. Respectively: JBL > BOSE > SAMSUNG 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
The Samsung soundbar may be 3rd in the list here, but as of the time of this comment, Samsung S60A is about $120 cheaper than the Bose. Since I'm looking for a soundbar for my bedroom that's definitely plus!

I'd say the Bose is better because I hate when I have to turn up the volume to hear dialog but then have to lower the volume during action scenes. I'm sure for music listening the JBL is the winner.
Although a sound comparison through a youtube video does not do any right to the soundbars, I don't understand why you would change the soundsettings for the Bose and The Samsung. Having them set neutral would clearly produce a more honest comparison. Now I am wondering if your settings did made them sound worse or better than they are?
I had a Samsung S61a sound bar free with the QN90A, I was in the position of soundbars sound trebley harsh,I got home plugged it it via HDMI and I think I my mind's changed, pleasantly surprised with how it spreads the sound around,if it had a subwoofer it would be a high 7/10

I think the bose sounded the best it sounds very clear and in the speaker locations the jbl didn’t have tweeters which would make it sound worse and less clear through the frequencies and there was more mids in it too. the jbl works like magic with the hdmi 2.1 cable. It doesn't come out of the box, but if you get the cable it works like a charm. I have the jbl soundbar and I am speaking from experience ;)
@@leono7416 It wouldn't be necessary, a 2.0 hdmi or the one out of the box would work ok. But the speed transfer of the 2.1 cable is higher and you don't risk having a bit of lag between the action in the game or movie and the moment the sound comes out of the bar, especially if you run a gaming console through the tv with another hdmi cable and you have the bar through another cable.
