    Just treated myself to this soundbar yesterday I was going to take it back ,as I was hoping it would be better than the one I already had, it wasn't, but I've put it up on bedroom wall under television, and it's a fantastic soundbar for the money £249.00 it's definitely worth what I've paid

    Great job on the review.
    I got one for 65” LG Nanocell ,connected to Wi-Fi on Roku Ultra 4K/Atmos player,a moderate size great room.I’m 58 and my lovely wife of 30 years won’t let me get what I want(a 5:1 ) so…. this thing is GREAT!!!
    And if you’re 58 you don’t need more bass,who knew?
    I got mine on Woot for $199 and I am thrilled with it.

    My TV does not have Dolby Atmos (does have HDMI ARC). Is Atmos necessary to still get the sound and surround sound effects promised by the JBL 5.0?

    • @NickBorodenko

      You can still get compressed atmos through HDMI ARC (from some Netflix titles, for example).
      For regular non-atmos media surround sound effect is less noticeable.

    Great video. I am looking to purchase one, but I have a question. My TV doesn't have eArc functionality(non Atmos) and only 1080p so I was thinking whether buying something like Roku streaming stick 4k( it actually supports Atmos) and connecting straight to JBL and then have hdmi output from it to TV to get Atmos?

    • @NickBorodenko
      @NickBorodenko  2 года назад +1

      Hello, thanks for watching!
      You can connect a streaming stick to hdmi in and TV to hdmi out (eARC).
      Considering TV stick supports Atmos - JBL will output that (well, virtual version of Dolby Atmos, as I've mentioned in the video).
      JBL bar will also pass the Dolby Vision signal (up to 4K@60HZ HDR10) to the TV. But as your TV does not support Dolby Vision (no eARC), JBL will downmix Dolby Vision to HDR10, HDR or SDR - whatever the TV supports.
      I don't know, if onboard usb port will provide enough power for a stick, though. You may end up using external power source for that.

    If this is a good option then how does the JBL Bar 5.1 compare not counting the sub. The bar itself does bar 5.1 have as good of auido output for clarity. I can get the Bar 5.1 for $299 tax included tomorrow & wanna know if it sounds as good or better then the 5.0 Multibeam. Thanks in advance.

    • @NickBorodenko
      @NickBorodenko  2 года назад

      JBL Bar 5.1 has a better overall frequency response comparing to Bar 5.0, as it features a bit larger drivers of the same type and two side-firing tweeters (not just passive radiators).
      In terms of audio clarity these models should be pretty similar though.
      If we're comparing them without subwoofer in Bar 5.1, JBL Bar 5.0 would provide better low frequencies. If comparing with sub - well, Bar 5.1 absolutely crashes its competitor.
      JBL Bar 5.1 takes more space, lacks eARC, virtual dolby atmos for better soundstage and Alexa support.
      Imo, Bar 5.1 for 299 is still a better choice.

    • @NickBorodenko
      @NickBorodenko  Год назад +1

      Hi! As far as I can tell from reviews of YAS 101, Bar 5.0 will provide better sound. Surrounding effect should be noticeable in comparison. In terms of raw audio quality the difference won't be that much. It's best to hear both for yourself though.
      Of course, JBL has more features (Airplay, Chromecast etc.) built-in.
      On the other hand sound devices don't age that fast, and if you're satisfied with Yamaha and don't need that extra features - you aren't loosing much sticking with YAS 101.

      Hi, congrats on purchase! This zone feels warmer than others, which are cool to the touch, but I can't say, that it's hot.
      That's the place, where (DSP) sound processor is located, along with radiators for it - so this area is designed to be a bit hotter than others.

      Sound quality is solid. Dialogues are clear and music/atmosphere is pleasing. And there's no noticeable delay even when connected via Bluetooth. I get that light 'surrounding' sensation even without Dolby Atmos turned on, but if you're into something like shooters - sound positioning accuracy is far from that in headphones. And you might get some noticeable reverb depending on your room.

      Привет, даже без Dolby Atmos звучит саундбар хорошо. Звук не будет сильно хуже, просто будет чуть слабее ощущаться объемность звучания. Субъективно разница незначительная.
      Dolby Digital Plus поддерживает воспроизведение Dolby Atmos в сжатом виде. Следовательно, саундбар должен крутить Dolby Atmos при подключении по HDMI ARC к телевизору с поддержкой Dolby Digital Plus.

    wchich soundbar is better if both have dolby atmos logo ;) 2.1 or 5.0 channels?

    • @NickBorodenko
      @NickBorodenko  2 года назад +2

      Hi! Well, dolby atmos technology can be built based on stereo (2.0), 5.0 (5 channels) or 7.0 (7 channels). Basically, Atmos expands the sound by adding height channels (either with upward firing drivers or by using some software hacks - just like in Jbl bar 5.0, that has 'virtual' Dolby Atmos).
      For most of the soundbars Atmos logo is a marketing trick.
      In terms of channels. Well, it depends. I would prefer 5.0 over 2.1 as it generally provides a much richer listening experience.
      Why it depends? It's possible to find 2.1 soundbars with hi-end high-quality speakers and 5.0 soundbars with inferior ones.

      Haven't heard denon myself, so can't say anything in terms of audio quality.
      According to specs home 550 lacks center channel (it's 4.0 sounbar, not 5.0) and may output less bass due to passive radiators config, but it can be paired to additional speakers and subwoofer unlike jbl. If You're planning to build complete home theater system denon would probably be a better solution.

      Thanks for sharing. Sometimes, newer and more modern things aren't better. If you have JBL/Harman devices from before Samsung acquired them, it might make sense to stick with those.

    Земляк привет! Не подскажешь , стоить ли брать 1 sonos beam или данный jbl , для просмотра видео , игр на пс 5, музыки , спасибо за ответ 🇺🇦💪🏻

      Добрый день и спасибо за просмотр!
      У beam звук, как по мне, приятнее.
      Но у него нет Bluetooth, всего 1 hdmi (что может быть не так удобно для подключения в зависимости от модели тв/проектора).
      У Sonos нет пульта в комплекте, но, скорее всего, так или иначе саундбар будет управляться через HDMI-CEC пультом от тв.
      Ещё из спорных моментов - тканевое покрытие.
      Зато к beam можно позднее докупить колонки и саб, таким образом собрав полноценную систему 5.1. И с beam проще сделать мультирум, если такое понадобится.
      У Jbl более насыщенные низкие частоты. Dolby Atmos в этом саундбаре - по сути, маркетинг.
      И, конечно же, останется вопрос цены.
      Так что я бы склонялся к Sonos, если ценник адекватный.
      Но Jbl тоже смело можно брать - плохим назвать этот саундбар я никак не могу.

      @@NickBorodenko Спасибо большое , а 1 Sonos будет поддерживать 4K на Netflix, и игры на Пс 5? А то так и не понял (
      Ценник примерно одинаковый, Dolby atmos маркетинг, поэтому не нужен особо мне

      Если коротко: что Sonos beam, что Jbl будут полноценно воспроизводить многоканальный звук с 4К Netflix и PS5.
      У Jbl есть возможность подключить ту же PS5 напрямую к нему, а уже от саудбара подключаться к ТВ. Таким образом на ТВ будет занят только один порт. Это актуально, например, для проекторов, где всего 2 HDMI (подключили пс5, подключили саундбар и больше не осталось портов для appletv, например).

    beam 2 or jbl ?

      As I've heard Sonos Beam gen.2 is superior in terms of sound quality and surrounding sound experience. It's also easier to set up multiroom with Beam 2 and other Sonos acoustics.
      But as Beam 2 is priced higher than Jbl - that's up to You to decide whether difference in sound justifies the price tag.
      P.S. Sry for not answering in time. As I am situated in Kharkiv - we are caught in the middle of war actions.

    I would love to recommend this DINDIN bluetooth speaker, I have been using it for half a year, and the sound quality is still the same, one of the best Bluetooth speakers in the $35-40 range.

      Getting paid with 100 subs channel for a review of the product which I like and use? Where to sign?)
      To speak seriously: as I've mentioned in the video, it's impossible to beat physics and get that ground shaking bass without dedicated sub. For a stylish all-in-one JBL bar outputs more than enough imo.
      If You're prioritizing significant bass output when looking for a soundbar - JBL bar is definitely not the way to go.
