You can still get compressed atmos through HDMI ARC (from some Netflix titles, for example). For regular non-atmos media surround sound effect is less noticeable.
Great video. I am looking to purchase one, but I have a question. My TV doesn't have eArc functionality(non Atmos) and only 1080p so I was thinking whether buying something like Roku streaming stick 4k( it actually supports Atmos) and connecting straight to JBL and then have hdmi output from it to TV to get Atmos?
Hello, thanks for watching! You can connect a streaming stick to hdmi in and TV to hdmi out (eARC). Considering TV stick supports Atmos - JBL will output that (well, virtual version of Dolby Atmos, as I've mentioned in the video). JBL bar will also pass the Dolby Vision signal (up to 4K@60HZ HDR10) to the TV. But as your TV does not support Dolby Vision (no eARC), JBL will downmix Dolby Vision to HDR10, HDR or SDR - whatever the TV supports. I don't know, if onboard usb port will provide enough power for a stick, though. You may end up using external power source for that.
@@NickBorodenko thanks for the information. I think the Roku stick comes with a power adapter and cable which also works as a WiFi receiver. I will give this setup a try.

If this is a good option then how does the JBL Bar 5.1 compare not counting the sub. The bar itself does bar 5.1 have as good of auido output for clarity. I can get the Bar 5.1 for $299 tax included tomorrow & wanna know if it sounds as good or better then the 5.0 Multibeam. Thanks in advance.
JBL Bar 5.1 has a better overall frequency response comparing to Bar 5.0, as it features a bit larger drivers of the same type and two side-firing tweeters (not just passive radiators). In terms of audio clarity these models should be pretty similar though. If we're comparing them without subwoofer in Bar 5.1, JBL Bar 5.0 would provide better low frequencies. If comparing with sub - well, Bar 5.1 absolutely crashes its competitor. JBL Bar 5.1 takes more space, lacks eARC, virtual dolby atmos for better soundstage and Alexa support. Imo, Bar 5.1 for 299 is still a better choice.
While Bar 5.1 doesn't support eARC or Dolby Atmos, it can still play Dolby Digital (Blu-ray s) and Dolby Digital Plus (Netflix). And you will still be able to output audio from eARC TV to Bar 5.1, however bandwidth will be limited to ARC standard.

Hi I have an older soundbar (12 years old Yamaha Yas 101) that is connected to my tv via optical. Will there be a big difference with this soundbar instead...i have arc but no Earc connection on my tv.
Hi! As far as I can tell from reviews of YAS 101, Bar 5.0 will provide better sound. Surrounding effect should be noticeable in comparison. In terms of raw audio quality the difference won't be that much. It's best to hear both for yourself though. Of course, JBL has more features (Airplay, Chromecast etc.) built-in. On the other hand sound devices don't age that fast, and if you're satisfied with Yamaha and don't need that extra features - you aren't loosing much sticking with YAS 101.
Hi. Great reviewm. I just got this today. And is it normal, when I touch the upper part of te unit, the panel between the power button and the left upward firing speaker grill, it's hot? Thanks, hope to hear from you soon
Hi, congrats on purchase! This zone feels warmer than others, which are cool to the touch, but I can't say, that it's hot. That's the place, where (DSP) sound processor is located, along with radiators for it - so this area is designed to be a bit hotter than others. If it feels unbearably hot - please, let me know, under which circumstances does that happen (i.e. after x min of music at x volume) - I'll recreate those with my soundbar and will check, if mine gets equally hot.
@@NickBorodenko thanks for the reply, I really appreciate it. I just use my tv via hdmi earc cable. Watching youtube and stuff, I can describe the temperature, probably the same heat when you play a heavy intensive game for a while on a mobile phone, it's not that hot, but a bit uncomfortable to hold. I'll try later, when I get back home, if I can get a temperature check to get a close to accurate reading.
Checked mine after couple hours playing RUclips. It does get warmer after some time, but gets up to something that feels like 40-45 Celsius and stays there. So, if you can comfortably place your hand - i believe, that's normal.
Sound quality is solid. Dialogues are clear and music/atmosphere is pleasing. And there's no noticeable delay even when connected via Bluetooth. I get that light 'surrounding' sensation even without Dolby Atmos turned on, but if you're into something like shooters - sound positioning accuracy is far from that in headphones. And you might get some noticeable reverb depending on your room.

JBL bar should be more than enough for your room. In theory it should also provide a better surrounding sound than Xiaomi 3.1, but less immersive low frequencies. Hi! Well, dolby atmos technology can be built based on stereo (2.0), 5.0 (5 channels) or 7.0 (7 channels). Basically, Atmos expands the sound by adding height channels (either with upward firing drivers or by using some software hacks - just like in Jbl bar 5.0, that has 'virtual' Dolby Atmos). For most of the soundbars Atmos logo is a marketing trick. In terms of channels. Well, it depends. I would prefer 5.0 over 2.1 as it generally provides a much richer listening experience. But from what I heard my opinion is Jbl is a bit better (especially considering the price difference) if comparing just soundbars, but as Bose allows adding surrounding speakers and subwoofer later on - it's the option to choose if you plan on building complete home theater system. P.S. My apologies for the delay.
If I got your question right - wi-fi is on when soundbar is in standby. As soon as you start casting something like Spotify it wakes up automatically. To turn wi-fi off you'll have to unplug the soundbar, I guess.
@@NickBorodenko ya even when its in standby my laptop shows the bar as sending out wifi,,, ever heard of how to turn off wifi on the bar so its not put out the signal without unplugging it
I believe there is no other way to switch wi-fi off aside from unplugging. But as soon as you set up the soubdbar by connecting it to your wi-fi network - it should at least stop broadcasting its own network.
Hm, that's strange. I hear dialogues loud and clear (especially compared to in-built TV speakers). Try to lower the bass level on the bar (higher bass levels have a negative impact on speech clarity). If that still doesn't help the only other option I can think of is using a system-wide equalizer (like free eqmac for macos) - there try lowering the lower frequencies and boosting mid ones (from 500Hz-1KHz to 4KHz-8KHz).
Haven't thought of that, to be honest. It will be possible to connect two using HDMI splitter (as both soundbars will receive identical signal input). Though I would personally prefer a sound system that has upgradability support from the factory over using splitters.
Denon is not widely available in Ukraine, so home 550 is hard to buy and 2 times more expensive than jbl bar 5.0 😅 Haven't heard denon myself, so can't say anything in terms of audio quality. According to specs home 550 lacks center channel (it's 4.0 sounbar, not 5.0) and may output less bass due to passive radiators config, but it can be paired to additional speakers and subwoofer unlike jbl. If You're planning to build complete home theater system denon would probably be a better solution. Anyway, if You can listen to both at the store - that's the best way to choose.
I wonder why JBL haven't at least included an option to purchase a sub separately and upgrade the sound system. Bar 5.0 is decent on its own, but it really lacks that upgradeability.
Yes and no 🤪 No - You won't get true dolby atmos via arc as this standard doesn't support uncompressed high-bitrate audio streaming. Yes - some streaming services like Netflix, Amazon, etc. embed Dolby Atmos in the lossy Dolby Digital Plus format which ARC can handle. Here is a nice article about that: www.whathifi.com/advice/hdmi-arc-and-hdmi-earc-everything-you-need-to-know
I got this bar after my SB200 blew a speaker. The Bar 5.0 had awful bass and movie dialogue sound tinny and empty. Ended up fixing the SB200 with Elmers glue and it sounds much better than this did. Super disappointing.
Thanks for sharing. Sometimes, newer and more modern things aren't better. If you have JBL/Harman devices from before Samsung acquired them, it might make sense to stick with those.

Getting paid with 100 subs channel for a review of the product which I like and use? Where to sign?) To speak seriously: as I've mentioned in the video, it's impossible to beat physics and get that ground shaking bass without dedicated sub. For a stylish all-in-one JBL bar outputs more than enough imo. If You're prioritizing significant bass output when looking for a soundbar - JBL bar is definitely not the way to go.

I think there is a auto-volume mode.. press mute button for few seconds and press -..
Not sure if it helps.. let me know it solves the issue..
Nice video mate.. got this soundbar for £200 and it sounds amazing considering the size of this thing.
Thanks for support! Congrats on purchase 👍
Great video man. Subscribed!
добрый день,а к ниму можно подключить сабвуфер?
Добрый день, к сожалению, нет. Расширить систему, докупив сабвуфер или другие компоненты не получится.
Can I connect 2 together ?
This sounbar does not have this feature. And no external subwoofer can be added too.
@@NickBorodenko even with a splitter ?
Haven't thought of that, to be honest. It will be possible to connect two using HDMI splitter (as both soundbars will receive identical signal input).
Though I would personally prefer a sound system that has upgradability support from the factory over using splitters.
Thank you
Thanks for posting ?, makes sense
Which is better this one or denon home 550?
Denon is not widely available in Ukraine, so home 550 is hard to buy and 2 times more expensive than jbl bar 5.0 😅
Haven't heard denon myself, so can't say anything in terms of audio quality.
This is an attractive basic soundbar with virtual Dolby Atmos but the lack of a subwoofer output is a deal-breaker for me.
I wonder why JBL haven't at least included an option to purchase a sub separately and upgrade the sound system. Bar 5.0 is decent on its own, but it really lacks that upgradeability.
@@NickBorodenko Because they want you to buy their more expensive models WiTH a sub included, if that is what you prefer😉
amazing review, thank you!
Thank you for the feedback!
Nicely done!
Just one question
Won't I get Dolby audio from arc hdmi with high speed cable?
Yes and no 🤪
No - You won't get true dolby atmos via arc as this standard doesn't support uncompressed high-bitrate audio streaming.
Yes - some streaming services like Netflix, Amazon, etc. embed Dolby Atmos in the lossy Dolby Digital Plus format which ARC can handle.
Here is a nice article about that: www.whathifi.com/advice/hdmi-arc-and-hdmi-earc-everything-you-need-to-know
@@NickBorodenko thanks
Great work, thanks.
Thanks for support!
I wonder how it sounds compared to my Verizon streambar tuned by bang & olefsun
Thanks man.
Thank you for the comment!
Красава, Хорошо все рассказал!!!

beam 2 or jbl ?
As I've heard Sonos Beam gen.2 is superior in terms of sound quality and surrounding sound experience. It's also easier to set up multiroom with Beam 2 and other Sonos acoustics.
But as Beam 2 is priced higher than Jbl - that's up to You to decide whether difference in sound justifies the price tag.
P.S. Sry for not answering in time. As I am situated in Kharkiv - we are caught in the middle of war actions.
I would love to recommend this DINDIN bluetooth speaker, I have been using it for half a year, and the sound quality is still the same, one of the best Bluetooth speakers in the $35-40 range.
Got it for 200 bucks
Bass is crap, don't know how much you get paid
Getting paid with 100 subs channel for a review of the product which I like and use? Where to sign?)
To speak seriously: as I've mentioned in the video, it's impossible to beat physics and get that ground shaking bass without dedicated sub. For a stylish all-in-one JBL bar outputs more than enough imo.
If You're prioritizing significant bass output when looking for a soundbar - JBL bar is definitely not the way to go.
Why are fools like you obsessed with bass? Do you like irritating your neighbours?
Irritating neighbours with small all-in-one soundbar? It's not the jedi way... I have a set of perforator and drills for that 😇
@@NickBorodenko I've just ordered this from Amazon. Should arrive on Tuesday or Wednesday next week.
Congrats on your purchase! Hope it will meet or exceed your expectations.
