- This video tutorial shows those new to Windows 8.1 the basics needed to get around the new Windows 8 user interface. This second part shows the differences between Windows 8.1 and Windows 8.1 with Update 1. If you are new to Windows 8 you should watch Part 1 first. If you are familiar with Windows 8 and just want an introduction to the changes with Update 1 then you can skip part 1.
My wife just recently purchased a pc with 8.1 & her and I both have learned a great deal in such an easy-to-understand way. Thank you for taking the time to put together these tutorials.
Wow, move the maximize function from the top right corner of the window (where the close and minimize functions are) to the top left corner is the greatest idea and most significant change in software that I have ever seen. Hopefully next they will invert the screen and makes use work with it upside down.
I am new to Windows 8 (my new laptop has 8.1) and I have been watching your videos for a couple of days now and feel that I really understand the features of 8.1 .. THANK YOU! Your videos are great and you are so easy to understand!! I've subscribed!! :)
Just got a new computer and this helps a lot..Thanks
Thank you for this tutorial. I will be receiving a computer next week with the new windows 8.1 and was intimidated, however, you have brought everything quite clear
HI I'm having a problem for some reason my computer want drop down when I click by Apps by name. can u please help me
I just bought someone a new computer with Windows 8.1. This sure made me happy I use Mac.
Thanks excellent tutorials. I will definitely try to buy my new computer with windows 8.1 + update 1. So used to using Windows 7 this will make the transition easier.
Great tutorial . . highly recommend
Screw it.
I'm switching to Windows 10
Unless it glitches out...
windows 10 sucks ass so i downgraded to windows 8 and then 8.1 because windows 10 laggy as hell and spammed me
Why on Earth have they had to change basically EVERYTHING that made Windows easy to use?? I can see myself throwing my laptop at a wall when I have to learn all this BS.
As a long-time user of Windows XP, and someone who was really reluctant to switch over to Windows 7, these past two videos have been immensely helpful in my questioning of whether or not to upgrade.
I primarily used only XP and 7 since 2006, Prior to that I used Windows Sin, I mean Millennium...... So far Windows 8.1 has updates I find much more pleasant over the 8.0 version which left desktop users largely SOL if they didn't like modernization.
I find that Windows 8 works best with a 21:9 aspect ratio monitor, mine being 2650x1080, the more square the shape of the monitor is, the more split screen functionalities become squished screen dysfunctionalities. The down side is those monitors are expensive and tend to be for more specialty purposes.
The O.S came with my new desktop, and I wasn't thrilled to use it, but now that I am becoming even slightly familiar with the functionalities of my computer and Windows 8.1, I am genuinely impressed. One of the guys I subscribe to on RUclips was a developer for Windows 8 for Microsoft, and he likes it. He jokes about how much crap it gets from Windows puritans, but he talks about how under the hood, it is a very solid and innovative software.
I don't think the average user will ever push the limits of Windows 8.1, and most anyone who can, likely defaults to Windows 7, but so far it does not appear to be some mid generation "upgrade" like Millennium, NT, Vista, etc...
Michael Garland I love XP and use it as my main computer. Took Windows 7 and changed all the stupid permission garbage that tied your hands from doing something as simple as renaming a folder. Those who give up simplicity for security deserve neither.
So I can sort apps by most used, date installed, or by category, but I can't sort them by alphabetical order? How does anyone who came up with this POS O/S still have a job?
No this is for Windows 10
Can I open two Windows traditional apps like MS Office components, Word and Excel, on left nd right side? I need them to copy data from them.
Thank-you for taking the time to post this 2-part tutorial. I found it very helpful.
thanks, that was very informative and helpful
Great work !! :)
I HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATE the new address bar. it was fine as it was before, and now, not only does it NEVER GO AWAY, but the new tabs thing isn't helpful, just distraction. oh, and it also NEVER GOES AWAY! i liked using windows internet explorer not on the desktop before this. now it defaults to the desktop, which is HORRIBLE. I feel like using my 3ds to surf the web now
This tutorial is very helpful. However, I have a problem. My IE on my new W8.1 computer looks like my old W7 IE. I don't have the navigation at the bottom of the screen, so I can't access options like pinning a website, etc. Can anyone help?
I like your videos but I'm not a cloud fan at all. It's a bit worrisome. A good tutorial would be based on custom settings and creating a local account and getting rid of Skydrive. Although the cloud should be helpful it's flawed with horrible security. Keep up the good work!
Some of the things you are showing are not the same for my Lenovo ideapad 8.1. For instance, when I am in the windows store and scroll my mouse to the top of the screen a bar does not come down with an exit and minimize tab. I have to go to the bottom left corner and return to windows icon and my window store auto closes, at least I am assuming as the icon does not remain in the lower task bar. Any reason why you might think I am seeing these type of differences? Thank you, your tutorial has been helpful even with the differences.
So much was changed between Windows 8,1 and update one that they should have gotten rid of all the garbage and renamed it Windows 9.
Thank you
changes just for the sake of changing. Now, "computer" is "this computer". It's the same thing as before, why change it? And does anyone see any improvement from Win7? I doubt it. Split screen? I dont know anyone who uses it. It's a pain in the ass and totally unnecessary. The touch screen is even more stupid. The mouse is 1000% more efficient. This thing is more like a cell phone and that is totally inefficient. I'm about ready to switch to Apple, but at least PCs are affordable.
thedeliberator#1 It is just like the app developers who screw up perfectly working apps by changing it just to justify their job. If an app works fine and has no bugs, there is nothing you can do to improve it so the only thing is to make changes, changes which make it worse. Then you remove the old app and force people to use the new messed up app so your boss doesn't see what a moron you are with everyone reinstalling the old app.
I don't seem to have the Windows start button in the corner with the rest of my apps like the internet and such. I don't know where it went. Does anyone know how to get it back. I'm lost.
I hate to complain, I have Windows 7. I can open SEVERAL WINDOWS at the same time. I use a chat room-- use two different search engines and have the news open at the same time. I have no problem going from one to the other. Here it seems that I can only open two APPS at the same time. Sometimes I even have RUclips open and listen to music at the same time. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Can the address BLOCK at the bottom of Internet Explore be adjusted to take up 3/4 of the screen rather than just 1/3? I was still able to see part of the web pages and I'd prefer to surf without being able to see anything.
I didn't find any problem solved how to get started camera on windows 8.1.. Can anybody help me how to start camera.....
I think the biggest innovation in Windows 8 was being restricted to small, medium, and large tile sizes. Why allow people to adjust them to any size they want like the windows in previous editions of Windows? We all know computers are getting slower and less technologically advanced so these changes were necessary. Pretty soon we will have black and white screens only.
Great vids. It's a little overwelming to make the switch from XP to 8.1. The vids really do a great job getting your feet on the floor.
They really went overboard with the use of colors for the search and shut down icons. The user's picture is so detailed it almost looks life like. Also great contrast between the text and background colors at 9:20 for the "8 new apps installed" message. Hopefully that color can be adjusted so we can't see the text at all instead of having to look at the screen from an inch away to see it.
I learnt a lot about using windows 8.1 from your videos. Nicely explained. seeing the videos it is easy for a novice to understand how to use windows 8,1. I have subscribed and look forward to watching more videos from you
good tutorial. however i have to disagree with the new set up on internet explorer. i find the address bar and new tab bars annoying as they take up too much of the screen. is there any way to make them disappear like the desk top task bar. i preferred the system on windows 8 for this.
Thanks, that was very helpful. This windows 8.1 is more for a computer usage :)
Helpful
Geez, great idea to click on an "X" to close the app. I wouldn't have though of that in 100 years.
Thanks, watched two tutorials, it's really helpful.
The explantation was superb
I'm old enough to remember DOS computers, and when I went to windows it was hard at first...but well worth it. Touch screen computing is where we are heading...best to get use to it now...and I kind of like it. Tutorials like this helps so much. Thanks. I just got a new laptop (with a touch screen) with windows 8.1 this week. The one thing I am not thrilled with is the use of the microsoft account password when you turn on the computer instead of one on the computer like with widows 7, what if I want to use it where there is no WIFI service, like the diner near my house? Or God forbid, my Cable goes down.
RoccosPlace1 Touch screens in desktops will never go over because your arm will get tired from constantly having to lift it to the screen.
how does one tell if this new computer has the update installed on it?
This one was also awesome. This is so much easier than I thought it was.
Great job, very well explained.
Outstanding video. Thank you.
what is the text to speach engine and voice?
10:03
9:21 boot out
Sorta like Windows 10 with the taskbar on the start screen
