When Jamie asks what the infrared sensor is for, the answer that it was used to find hotspots in the Fukushima reactor is a much nicer way of saying it's designed to find people that need to be eliminated.
The Global Hawk UAV, an Unmanned Air Vehicle, unlike an RPA, Remotely Piloted Aircraft. The difference is that an RPA requires a pilot on the ground in a command unit or a pilot with an arm mounted controller to operate depending on distance and mission. The UAV however requires no pilot because onboard computers (primary and backup) are pre-programed with the mission and fly the directed course as if a pilot was on board. There is an operator on the ground who monitors the mission, performs mission updates or changes through an active up and down link and monitors air vehicle health through the same link. The Global Hawk Takes over from the ground crew after engine start. performs self check of all systems and control surfaces then informs the opertor that she is ready to taxi. The operator then initiates taxi command and the air vehicle "taxis" out to the take-off waypoint and awaits the next command. Once cleared by the tower, the operator then initiates the take-off command and the Global Hawk starts it's mission. Take-off, cruise mission objectives, return to base and landing are then performed autonomously with no operator inputs. She is truly a "free bird". I ended my career working on Global Hawk from inception thru flight ops. Global Hawk also won the Collier Award in 1998. A true "spy in the sky".
I liked this one. I didn't know they had any U2s that were still operational. I wonder what what Adam would have thought of flying an SR71 Blackbird? Wouldn't THAT be a trip!!
+christosvoskresye There is a nose camera, but it's only used for taxi. Flight is via preprogrammed navigational waypoints or IFR if they want to deviate from the flight plan.
u think a shit cell phone company would manufacture any parts for a hi-tech plane like this! moron. military-grade equipment compared to cell phone is like comparing a new gold-plated bugatti chiron to a 1990 honda civic. this plane costs 200 million
Besides both of you not being able to completely be able to have any idea of the englash languogo, you're a fucking dipshit for not realizing that perhaps he was being slightly cheeky and sarcastic.
Nice, but expensive - $200 million..! Of much better value is the Gem-7 UAV. The Gem-7 has a 13m span, with a 35 hour endurance, but only a $2 million price tag (fully fitted with optics). Is the Hawk really worth 100 Gem-7s? P S.
+ogradyv Highly advanced cameras, thermal sensors, radar, satellite communications, gps, flight control electronics, communication electronics, batteries, a lot of fuel, a big engine, etc. If you were to put that all in a manned plane, it would actually be a lot bigger, so its a pretty small plane for what you get in it
+Jason Bonedi All of that plus defensive systems are in a U-2, which has a smaller wingspan but much higher performance. Plus a human brain that can't be tricked by electronic spoofing.
'96 VR-4 Spyder The current U-2s were redesigned and built in the late 80s, and have been upgraded several times since. The sensors are the newest of the new.
piggystriker2 The globalhawk provides a platform that can carry more payload and have longer endurance. Not to mention it's harder to detect due to it's higher altitude. It just seems like a missed opportunity to me.
"Fly over Fukushima and see that the rectors had overheated"... Is that really the best example he could come up with. How about "Find innocent civilians with the thermal camera and lase them for a bomb drop to cause maximum civilian casualties."
I like how all of you are laughing about it like it's an acheivement. It's not exactly hard to shoot down, it's not exactly an extreme altitude, high performance aircraft like the blackbird.
Yo dude we wish you a very happy new year new to pheasant 17 Poop Loop we're gonna be partying drinking and having fun here XO XO love your son Travis Robertson
+Joshua Camp the u-2 is almost irreplaceable, it has a better performance and is not effected by electronic warfare, the global ``chicken`` can be jammed, hacked or tracked by the enemy if the operating forces are not careful
Andy Gonzalez it cannot carry bombs the predator c avenger is designed for that, the predator c has a internal bay (its a stealth drone) and the option of external hard points for weapons
they have other UAV that have weapons called predator. this is just for spying/surveillance idiot. The secrets they hide are about the technology the plane has because its for spying.
US GOVT is ashamed of accepting that this piece of hitech tecnology and power is shot down by Taliban and now IRAN SO sad rest in peace global hawk🕯🕯🕯🎈

Jamie is trolling
Wow. You know Jamie’s enjoying himself when he’s laughing at the “Global Hawk” comment.
LOLz, "NOT!"
It is 100% autonomous!!!! I supported this plane for 15 years
"NOT... hehe"
What a good name for a aircraft!
These are fully autonomous, the pilot just monitors what it’s up to
Pretty much like any airline on autopilot
Jamie wants Global Hawk. LOL
We called her the red queen and this is not a funny thing. She gave us orders autonomously. This was 15 years ago, be afraid.
Now, if the Pink Protester would quit hanging around the gates, that would be great.
Are there cameras to let the operator "see" the horizon and airspace, or do they just always trust the artificial horizon, altimeter, etc.?
+christosvoskresye There is a nose camera, but it's only used for taxi. Flight is via preprogrammed navigational waypoints or IFR if they want to deviate from the flight plan.
One of these was destroyed today by the Iranian Air Force.
The rest of these UAVs are for us.
