I like the 22/250 myself, but also like the savage A-17 in automatic, so you can chase them if miss a shot. 204 burns up barrels to quick, and the 223 is tried and true, but for me, it’s the 22/250 for me. I have an old Remington 700, and I reload with 40 gr v-max. That’s what my gun likes the best. Has 1-10 twist. 1-9 twist would probably like a little higher grain. Sorry for being so long, but figured you liked the input. Only wish I was going along. Have great time, and what state are you going to??? Neighbor from Kentucky.
Nice choice of bingbangs. I use 22LR on prairie poodles a lot just for the challenge. If you have an accurate enough gun, 300 yards is very doable if you can dope the wind and drop. I've also used big bores when I'm mad at my shoulder or just feel like staying in practice with 'em. (Fun fact; 458 WinMag doesn't care if there's a foot of dirt between the muzzle and 'dog!)
For me the 223 is at the bottom of those 3. I like them all but the 204 is my favorite. Recently acquired a 204 upper with an ER Shaw bull barrel. Just shot it today, put an Athlon Talos BTR 4-14x44 FFP on it. Reticle a bit busy for me. Sighted it in at 50 yards and then put two in a 1" circle at 171 yards. As far as I shoot safely. Love the 204 but any of the 3 will get it done.
Good luck out there!! I don’t have NEAR the amount of guns you have but I would take my .223 if I went!! Those Banish cans are SWEEEEET. Bout to get me in trouble with the wife LOL
Went to South Dakota for P Doggs last summer so much fun they just keep coming those 3 cals are perfect same ones we took we had a .17hmr with us too for close shots hope you get lots of footage!!
The family is about to go out west after prarie dogs as well. We are using 17 hmr, 22 lr, 22 hornet, 221 fireball, 222, 222M, 223, 243, and hopefully enough ammo. The best of luck to you.
.204 ruger is good, .22-250 is better. But call me old school all you want😂 I prefer the old .220 swift with a tighter twist rate barrel and handloads!. I also like the near extinct ..223 short magnum . Haven't tried the .224 Wylde yet its on the list! Good luck on the hunting trip !
My favorite is mine 22-250 remington model 788 and 222Remington model 788 for deer and Gopher all neck shot Leopold Scope. I injoy your video good luck.
I was just talking with my grandson about prairie dog hunting, he lives in Cheyenne. Was going to use my AR, my 25-06, and maybe even my Garand with some 125s. Wife still recovering from spine surgery, so it may be next year. Have fun. You really should take your hand painted mod 700 in 223. Just put your ears on.
For varmints, my go-to is a Remington 700 Varmint Synthetic in .22-250, followed by my Ruger M77 in .223. For closer work I enjoy using a Ruger 77/17 in .17 HMR, and for bigger annoyances like coyotes I prefer my Browning Micro Hunter in .243 (very lightweight and handy).
They are all an awful lot of power for prairie dogs. I would likely take my 17 WSM. It is the most accurate rifle I own. I really wish that it had have been a 20 WSM though. That would have been perfect.
It's hard to beat a 22-250 for most any varmint. with the 204 Ruger coming in at a tight second choice....have fun and I hope your taken the youngin's out there with you 🐿️💥🐿️💥🐿️💥
22-250 and 17WSM are my go to calibers for hunting lil dogs. I only use the 22-250 when it's pretty windy since the little 20gr 17 doesn't handle wind that well.
When I lived in SD, my .204 and .17 HMR were my go to's. I experimented with many .223 lightweight varmint rounds and none of them were worth it. AR's are not known for exceptional accuracy to start with, and sub 55gr bullets are even less accurate in modern twist rate barrels. I would also take my hunting setups out to practice on them for wind holds for when it was time to load the freezer. I had buddies that ran 22-250's, and one that ran a .220 Swift.
Its windy out here remember that. Some prairie dogs are skittish anc youll be taking long shots (200yard) Hope you enjoy ur time here in wyoming. Its beautiful!
We had some prairie dogs out in NE when I lived there. A friend of mine had a friend who was friends with a rancher who had issues with them, so I was asked if I wanted to go, which I couldn't resist. I didn't have my AR's or 243 at that time, so I used my Mosin. My buddy had his 204 Ruger with reloads. I only shot two praire dogs that I was within 200 yards of using irons and that was tough with a mosin, but the shots that connected, it blew them apart. The 204 Ruger my buddy had was a laser beam and he was easily getting them at 300 yards. Next weekend my dad and I are going to help a friend who has a problem with woodchucks, so I'm not sure what bang bang I wanna use, but I'm thinking for sure my 243.
Always keep an eye out for strings and pulleys that Wild Man may have rigged up to your shooting bench he’s crafty like that you know ! Also I heard he had been training a little monkey to mess with people and make their shots off their mark !! : ))))
I use .223 handloads only, not commercial for prairie dogs and small game. Never had to venture into .204 or 22-250 which are just as awesome as the .223. Good hunting Who-Tee- Who!
I have taken to also using my deer rifles on varmints. I my main varmint rifle is my 220 swift, and I use a 223 for walking round, but I always bring my 300 win mag and take a few shots for practice. If you can take the tiny critters at 200-300 yards, deer are going to be easy.
that oryx chassis is monie. I want to get that for my 7prc. BUT! going from a 1.5 lbs stock to a 4.5 stock.... and 500 beans!? im gonna have to wait a bit and enjoy the stock mossberg. Very nice lookin rifles you got there my man
A friend of mine hunts prarie dogs in Kansas, he prefers the .22-250. I think a 25-06 would make a nice long range round. I am going to give prarie dog hunting a try sometime.
you can usually find those small square bullet hole patches for paper targets on reels pretty cheap in some gunshops.. i know you like making paperplate targets, but i think those would be alot faster than using markers to make a bullseye on the paperplate..prolly cheaper too... fyi
My kid has a pet prairie dog much different from wild one a lot bigger actually pretty crafty little guys hunted some out in Colorado those guys do give a challenge all those eyes watching
I have all 3 of them but 22-250 is my favorite I've killed hundreds of coyotes with it and they don't run with the 22-250 like they do with the other 2 calibers 🤘
Any idea what kind of ranges you're expecting for the prairie dogs? Years back, I was at my local Cabelas. A guy in front of me in line had a cart completely filled with .223 ammo they had on sale. He said he was going out west with a couple friends to another friend's property, where they were going to spend the week prairie dog hunting, and he was given the task of picking up ammo for everyone. He had, I think, a couple hundred boxes of ammo. And it was on sale for $6 per box. Ammo was cheap and plentiful back then.
If the prairie dogs where you're going haven't been hunted to much a fun thing to do is start with a shotgun and walk through the town. This is a lot of fun until the dogs get spooked. You can also take a couple of heavy fishing poles. Place a loop of line around the entrance to a whole. If a dog sticks its head out jerk the line and have fun. Keep that line tight and make sure you practice nice clean catch and release.
The 22-250 is a Great lil round! The 223 is just a common round! But the 204....that's the 1 I would love to use 👌🏼👍🏼
I mostly use a 17HMR. Prairie dogs are like the fishing of hunting. Just sit and wait, plenty of nibbles, a lot of catches.
Went on a Parie Dog hunt WAY BACK(I was 20, I am now 65) I used a 22-250 Savage and I STILL prefer that Caliber to this day for the ground Squirrels!
22-250! I have one that was custom built and she is a tack driver. Those dogs will explode with that round, enjoy the carnage!
I like the 22/250 myself, but also like the savage A-17 in automatic, so you can chase them if miss a shot. 204 burns up barrels to quick, and the 223 is tried and true, but for me, it’s the 22/250 for me. I went to Wyoming
Thanks for sharing. I'm right there with you with the 22-250 for predators, varmints and other critters.
Nice choice of bingbangs. I use 22LR on prairie poodles a lot just for the challenge. If you have an accurate enough gun, 300 yards is very doable if you can dope the wind and drop. Super stoked to see the hunt! Glad to see some more vids of the .204 and the .22-250!
For me the 223 is at the bottom of those 3. I like them all but the 204 is my favorite. Recently acquired a 204 upper with an ER Shaw bull barrel. 👍💯🇨🇱 I was expecting a 17HMR the line-up lol good luck

Have fun. You really should take your hand painted mod 700 in 223. Just put your ears on.
If for slapping Prairie Dog “catching” the 22-250 is my favorite. More wind resistant, heavier boolots = the choice.
That was a really fun video!
I'm jealous. I love prairie dog hunting. I'm a 22-250 fan. I use a Ruger American Predator though.
Nice WTW, my favorite is the 22-250! Looking forward to the Prairie dog hunt!
Videoa out soon!
Mine is the.223 as of now. I haven't shot a 22-250 or Ruger 204 yet. Great video Adam.
Mostly go for public land dogs in CO. Can be pretty skittish. 22-250 is my key to win.
Another .22-250 fan here.
They are all an awful lot of power for prairie dogs. I would likely take my 17 WSM. It is the most accurate rifle I own. I really wish that it had have been a 20 WSM though. That would have been perfect.
Wy good hunting when I went I used 243 but we were shooting 300 yds.
Have an awesome time
You need a 222 also. Very accurate on pasture poodles.
I like the 40 grain .204 in windy conditions. The 22-250 will excel in this game.
38gr bullets pushing 4200 FPS out of a 22-250 is my choice for varmints. Hope your trip went well. Cheers from NE Arkansas.
It's hard to beat a 22-250 for most any varmint. with the 204 Ruger coming in at a tight second choice....have fun and I hope your taken the youngin's out there with you 🐿️💥🐿️💥🐿️💥
Congrats on half a million subs! Keep up the good work.
204 is my favorite varmint control rifle really hard to beat ,really good caliber have fun enjoy b safe appreciate your hard work
Bet that 204 Ruger will be sweet on prairie dogs. Get the Hornady Superformance 32gr.
22-250 and 17WSM are my go to calibers for hunting lil dogs. I only use the 22-250 when it's pretty windy since the little 20gr 17 doesn't handle wind that well.

Yeah, I would use 22lr or 17hmr for the dogs in quantity but great choices
That .22-250 sure looks sweet. However I believe I would use the .204 Ruger.
WTW check and spray spool for piders. : )) We aprecineat you taken us to the range now for sure. !!
All are fast flyers , sweet setups and i bet yall put down a bunch òf those varmints !
I like the 204 Ruger myself and I can't wait until I can see your prairie dog hunt
I'm with you 22-250,& the 204 ruger
Its windy out here remember that. Some prairie dogs are skittish anc youll be taking long shots (200yard) Hope you enjoy ur time here in wyoming. Its beautiful!
Howdy. I like the 22-250 for the hunt!
Me too
I got a Remington 783 223 and a savage axis 22-250 and i love both, just got a mossberg 243 and 308, havent had time to try them out yet.
Good one Adam
Good job dude I prefer the 22.250 myself

22 250 love the rig .who tee who 🎉

223 video out soon hunting
Good stuff!
First choice is 22-250
Ackley improved. Second is 204.
Blackhound scopes very nice indeed 👌 love mine
My personal choice will be the 22-250
I second the Pizza 🍕. Don’t forget plenty of cartridges you will probably need a lot 👍
2A💪
mate its got to be the 22-250 big fan here in aussie
I can't stop laughing he reminds me that Cajun guy. that's money dude.
All good but love the 22-250, you’re probably going to be shooting a lot further than 100 yards. Guessing more in 250-400 yard range
Furthest we shot was 300 a couple times. Most were 50-100 yds
22-250 for sure Adam 2nd to the 204 ruger 👍👍
Man that ruger American is awesome.
I have taken to also using my deer rifles on varmints. I my main varmint rifle is my 220 swift, and I use a 223 for walking round, but I always bring my 300 win mag and take a few shots for practice. If you can take the tiny critters at 200-300 yards, deer are going to be easy.
That's got to be a glorious sight--.300 Win Mag exploding a dawg.
@@ZommBleed it's very energetic. Sometimes 20 feet in the air, sometimes just pink mist.
that oryx chassis is monie. I want to get that for my 7prc. BUT! going from a 1.5 lbs stock to a 4.5 stock.... and 500 beans!? im gonna have to wait a bit and enjoy the stock mossberg. Very nice lookin rifles you got there my man
Fun fun fun! 😊
That 223 AR is sick!
👍😊 you have plan a,b, c good luck.
I have and love 22-250.
Used to shoot thunder basin in wyoming. Great times…have fun…
A friend of mine hunts prarie dogs in Kansas, he prefers the .22-250. I think a 25-06 would make a nice long range round. I am going to give prarie dog hunting a try sometime.
Adam i just picked up my Ruger Charger. Gotta figure out the glass next
you can usually find those small square bullet hole patches for paper targets on reels pretty cheap in some gunshops.. i know you like making paperplate targets, but i think those would be alot faster than using markers to make a bullseye on the paperplate..prolly cheaper too... fyi
223/556 just because of ammo availability, but that 204 is sweet looking.
22-250 back in action!
Never done long range varmint hunting. But I've seen some use .17 also with good effect on RUclips vids.
I would take a .204 Ruger, 22 WMR, and 17 HMR for prairie dogs.
Im a 17 HMR 22 WMR for the out to 100 yds an .223 22-250 and 220 swift guy for long prarie dogs shots.
Well I’d say good look but your probably back already lol 👍
I am!
204 is a beast on dogs. Those 32's will do a number on em. Unless it's windy then the are far better
I have all 3 of them I like the 22/250 the best
204 and 22-250 photo finish in that race
I the same Nikon scope on my Tikka T3 Varmint in 223. In 6-24 as well. To bad they stopped making them.
Between the 3 choices 204 for me all day any day
Although my main choice would be 220 swift
Love it I dont have a 204 or 22-250 I have 2 @17 hmr and 5 @ 223
My kid has a pet prairie dog much different from wild one a lot bigger actually pretty crafty little guys hunted some out in Colorado those guys do give a challenge all those eyes watching
I have the same Nikon Black 6-24X50 wit similar mounts but on a 223 Tikka Varmint rifle.
Awesome
❤
Have fun on the shoot. 👍
I got all three calibers, you're taking the wrong 223!! Take you're Remington, in same caliber
you can't take too much ammo. Have fun.
You need a .17HRM or .22 WMR, a .223 and a 22/250.
I have all 3 of them but 22-250 is my favorite I've killed hundreds of coyotes with it and they don't run with the 22-250 like they do with the other 2 calibers 🤘

Most were right at 100 yds
More scope and heavier barrels. I hunt pd a lot. 475 yards first round hit with a 25lb 6 creed last year.
👍👍
I might get to go in late July I'll take my 25 284 and 6.5 284
22-250....My remington 700's are tack driverz.
22 mag would did it or even .17 calibers in my opinion even 22 lr lol depends on the distance

Me being me I would take a 17hmr and 223. Just because im looking at the price of shooting
I would have to say the ruger!!
