F1 could have sounded better as well if they had a flat fuel flow curve. They really shot themselves in the foot with that artificially high reving engine. They will sound a little bit better with the removal of the MGUH but not much.
Those cars where the pinnacle of 'touring'car in theyre day. Though they would still have steel bodied underpinings ,the front and rear were virtualy cut of and replaced with custom tube subframes that tied with the cage. I know these C-class mercedes would have special couplings in the enginebay (like fuel lines, oil feeds etc) that would make engine swaps in between sessions a lot faster. Cantilever suspension or pushrod suspension. Sway bars that could be adjusted by the driver. Active aerodynamics. ABS and traction control. And offcourse there was the Opel and Alfa with these complicated AWD systems. Especially the Opel with geartrains on both sides at the front to provide power to the front wheels. Earlier versions did this with a chaindriven assembly. Gearboxes and electronics where based on the formula 1 tech at that time. With involvement from Williams and Cosworth on Opels side and TAG, Magnetti Marelli and Bosch Alfa's side. I like the Mercedes because its RWD layout and clean looks. What are youre favorites?
From what I know the Calibra's had a system that would close up some cooling slots in the front and divert aero to other parts. If you look closely at these (yellow zakspeed in particular because they had some ELF sponsoring decals on there) cars from the 1996 ITC / DTM season you can see this system working on the straights and opening up as soon as they brake. I know all manufacturers experimented with folding rear wings but they were banned.
I like the engineering that's put into these cars. They have clamp shells front and back and both subframes can be removed as one piece with the shells so in case of mechanical failure or crash they could be removed and and changed with the working one. Also I like the fact they still look like stock cars compared to DTM cars now, which look like Nascar
Hi Bozzy.👋 I absolutely love these high-revving legendary DTM machines. Wow, do they scream... and with such a unique-sounding voice.👌 I remember a while back you posted a few cars from this event on your Instagram. I look forward to the possibility of seeing (and hearing) more of these legends in the future. The Alfas and Opels were wonderful, too. I remember your thumbnail of a recent video featuring the Alfa, (I think, my favorite)😍, but did you do a separate feature video for them and the Opels as well? 😉 Thanks for documenting these bad boys of motorsport. Just brilliant! Have a great day, sir.👊
How did you manage to get access to pit lane wall (at 1:55) and other normaly non public accessible spotting points? Everytime I'm at Nürburgring I 'm jealous of that guys ;-)
Did anybody hear this live? I was there in Germany for two times this year. Beautiful Cars, yes, but the Sound is Nothing compared to DTM now, except of the alfa 155. This one is great. But the Mercedes c-class for example, is not as loud as a tcr car. It's even more quiet. The 190s even more. Everybody says, those where the days…. Regarding to the Competition it's Maybe true. But not in Sound. Absolutely not.
High volume doesn't equal great sound. Current DTM cars generate their dull sound just by the exhaust pipes, but in case of these Class 1 cars a huge or even the main part is the inlet noise and the very high revs. The Alfa 155 you heard was just louder because it ran without mufflers, but back in the day the rules demanded mufflers since they did have street course races.
Did anyone saw these in reality? How Loud are these things? The Intake sound is so loud, you can barely hear any other car when they fly by next to the ITC´s
Probablly very rare car it have N/A 2.5Litre V6 nearly same as Alfa. Some cool readings here:www.carmrades-blog.com/all-articles/2017/12/8/class-warfare-1993-opel-calibra-v6-4x4-dtm And did you know Mustang make DTM car too?ruclips.net/video/1b8hPwFPEHI/видео.html
There's only two Calibras left which still are able to drive. One is at Opel. Manuel Reuters Cliff car and one Rossberg Calibra. All others Do Not have any engine any more.
Soooooooo saaaaaaaaddddddddd i reallly want se this car again:(:(:( And what about Mustang DTM?They make few cars and try some test for some reason they leave..
I can only imagine what it must have been like to watch this era of DTM live!
This and the Alfa Romeo 155 DTM were my favorite touring cars
and the calibra itc
absolutely right
500 bhp 11000 rpm. 100 kg..........beasts
and for me the 190e is also my favorite
Was literally just going to comment that
These sounds are so good!

The good times of DTM.

the upshift MTB alfa
They didn't have active aero.

Because aero on road going versions are quite aerodynamic, so not much had to be changed. For sure they look Wunderbar.
Thank you for this! I loved these cars . The golden age of DTM
One of the beautiful cars in the world😍😍😍

Yes, one of Bruno Sacco's masterpiece designs.
@Zayd Mahmoud Remus exhaust, AMG mono block wheels or any nice wheels that fits the car, and either lowering springs or coilovers.

Where can I find this body kit?
You can’t. Ricer. It’s a DTM custom body kit.
My dad has same W202 C240

These cars sound so tame compared to the Alfa 155 V6 Ti.
Jan Magnussen
MotoGP sound
Nope. MotoGP mostly uses inline-4 or V4...and they rev higher than this.
Thats my car! Well not exactly ;)
Did Mercedes use a v6 in any street car?
There was a C32 AMG supercharged V6 in early 2000s
My brother has the road version of this DTM/ITC, the C240. It has a 2.4l V6 with around 170hp.
*C36
Mercedes used/uses V6 engines in almost every street car until the new i6 engines replaces them.
The first V6 in a street car by mercedes is this.
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercedes-Benz_M112_engine?wprov=sfla1
Almost sounds like a muted 3 rotor wankel...
Fa Durac nah, that sounds were legendary
Opel Calibra DTM pls next:)
Never seen one in my life unfortunately... Hope there'll be a chance in the future
