It's worth mentioning as well that many more things in this mission are coded super weirdly. The train's logic is really messed up, it will stop, start, slow down or speed up at seemingly random times. This makes coming up with solutions quite tricky for casual players. For example, you might try to kill the train driver to stop the train. This does work, but only in very specific scenarios. Sometimes it stops entirely, sometimes it starts accelerating again immediately. It feels random without looking at the code, which no casual player is expected to do. Great video btw
When you shoot the driver you have a chance he pushes the throttle lever forward, just like you shoot someone in a car in the later games they can hit the gas when dying
@@TheDutchGuy110 I highly doubt that R* bothered to implement such a random mechanic, I think it's just buggy code that they didn't have time to fix before launch.
I never had much trouble with this mission. I have definitely failed it some times but the most important thing to do is to drive consistently next to the train and far enough so that the shots don't land on the train as mentioned in the video.
lol wow, as a software developer, the fact that they just used local variable that goes out of scope when the mission restarts is a pretty hilarious mistake, and yet I could totally see myself making it.
The main issue most have with the mission is that they drive too close to the side of the train, just keep over the other track and avoid crashing while Smoke takes out the Vagos.
What I *thankfully* found out as a kid is, that the missions pretty easy if you just don't take the high road in the countryside even tho Smoke wants you to, but rather just stay besides the train. He has more time to shoot them then.
But if you don't take the high road, you will have to dodge an incoming train in a very narrow spot, on a big turn with poor visibility. Crashing into a train at that point is almost certainly an instant fail.
Doing a 20th anniversary playthrough of San Andreas rn, before starting the mission, I was looking up videos about it, and this is the 1st one that popped up. This video explained exactly what I need to know. Finally finished the mission on the 1st try. 1st time that happened. All I had to do was stay on the edge of the tracks as much as possible

I struggled with this back in '04 and got it in like 3 attempts. Since then ive pretty much got it downloaded without any cheap tricks.. It's mainly about having the confidence to maintain a stead and straight heading alongside the train at a close enough distance that smoke can take them all out. And he usually gets them before you hit the tunnel. The car that gets hit and explodes can pretty much be ignored without any kind of position adjustment so long as you not right on top of it. it's main purpose is to distract you from what you're doing.
Should I redo the collision? I've been working on the models for GTA III vehicle collisions (one day I'll upload them, I want to include a few extra models) and I think I could significantly improve the accuracy without overbloating the model with excessive details. EDIT: It's done, link in my GTA Forums Workshop!!

Another thing this mission did wrong (no pun intended haha) is the fact Smoke mentions the deal includes some Rifa gang members from San Fierro, but all the gang members up there are Vagos models. I personally fixed this for my game, replacing two of the four gang members with Rifa models, and also editing the text accordingly. It's possible to have four different gang members this way, which improves the immersion as all gangs only have three ped models by default.
The problems you didn't mention about the mission include 2 things First and foremost the bike speed. When you are driving solo you can accelerate the bike much faster by leaning front. However during the mission Smoke is a passenger and the game slows the speed if there is a passenger. This applies exclusively to SA and no other 3D GTA game has this feature. Secondly the train tracks slow you done even further. While riding on the tracks your speed becomes so slow combined with the leaning forward nerf such that u always have to damage the 2nd guy in order to get a good chance of passing the mission. The train also takes an insane speed jump after the tunnel and that is explained in the video. Very interesting to see the scalable difficulty mechanism in this mission.
Smoke slowing the bike down was actually originally acknowledged in the mission through dialogue, but it was cut before release. At one point Smoke is meant to tell CJ to speed up and CJ says "This thing wasn't built to take so much weight. They don't call you BIG Smoke for nothin'!" then Big Smoke replies with "Shit, I was born big, fool". So the bikes being slowed down due to the extra passenger was likely introduced specifically for this mission.
@@TJGM But u can see that feature whenever u have a passenger in your bike. Be it girlfriends or other characters sitting behind you. I know there are cut dialogues but still this is not exclusive to this mission alone.

I remember as a child when I spent hours and hours to complete that mission and the one in Vice City and the one with the little helicopter haha, great video brother, the truth is that the level of detail and explanation is incredible, I congratulate you.

i think when they hit the countryside and big smoke wants you to take the high road that most people stay on the high road and never come back down to the right side of the train. That's why some might think its hard.

Hi! I have a problem with GTA San Andreas. I put some mods in it to upgrade the game and make it more beautiful, but I noticed that the fps often drops to 30-40 because of the mods. Most of them are just texture mods. I also use Largeaddress but the problem is still present. I don't know what to do. I haven't found any useful info on the internet about this other than to set the settings lower ingame. But this is a joke. So I was wondering, based on your mod series, if you could make a video on how to fix this problem that many people have. I don't want to take mods out of the game if I don't have to. If the scalable difficulty worked anytime on the mission people would have found out that you can cheese it by killing smoke and retrying the mission 4 times to make it easier. Still very interesting stuff
All you have to do to beat this mission first try is to stay as far away from the train as possible while maintaining your position by the front of it even when the high road becomes available. Then it's doable without any tricks, Smoke has a clear line of fire and pops them with ease.

I tried this mission back then.. I had no idea at first why Smoke shoots badly when I realize later years when I played this mission and watched one video of this mission by WarBear, I was too close to the train.. which results of Smoke shooting the train than Vagos..
So my first gta was 4 and I never played any of the other ones besides 5 until like 2019. I've played San Andreas multiple times since then and never had an issue with this mission. I always thought it was strange how a lot of people had trouble with it.

It's very different from PC even Android modders are clueless of implementing things found on the PC version to the mobile version. That's how much mess GSG did to the code compared to the PC version.

dude i (unfortunately) played GTA S:A for the first time with definitive editon and i was like "man this is easy" but i never realised that in DE that the game was easy as hell
i did it on the first try, and that was after a long break from android version straight to ps2. it was hard adjusting to joystick but since i know the fundamental i can easily did the mission the intended way (chasing the train)
My theory on this mission is that it should be played for 30-fps old consoles/pc just like the car school that you cannot do a flip with 60-fps and above.
i found it incredibly easy by just staying a bit far on the right so big smoke's stupid tec 9 could definitely reach them instead of being too close to the train. I feel like they might have definitely nerfed this mission in later releases though as it actually felt like the easiest mission in the game
Thanks for all your guides! For GTA SA, my question is; do the mods & fixes also fix the car stuttering issue in the PC version of the game? Like how in the opening cutscene when the corrupt cops have CJ locked up in the car & the camera cuts to the side view of the car ride, in the PC version, the car starts stuttering. The same issue can be seen when Smoke has CJ on his back for the Terminator 2 homage mission. So, is there a fix for this stutter? What is the ideal fps for this game? Will the mods work for a potato PC, like GT 830 & such. As always, thank you!
This mission isn't hard for me unlike what I was doing back then, basically, you just need to stick close to the locomotive to catch up with it and move away to help Big Smoke land accurate shots, if done right you can kill all the Vagos just when the train enters the tunnel in Jefferson.
I’ve never had a problem with this mission just stay close at the front and let him take out one by one from the guy in the back first. If you get it right you can finish the mission right at the start of the train tunnel.
I know you probably wont see this but I'm having a problem involving audio in gta sa... only some audio works, I'm not sure how to explain it but I've tried everything such as downloading the audio files again and troubleshooting but nothing works. the only time the audio works fully is when I've freshly installed the game and run it for the first time. every other time I run it it glitches out the audio. if you see this could you please help me as I would be very grateful

on mobile, m4 from the airport on lock on mode and getting not too behind the train and letting lock on do its thing should finish the mission before you even go to the first tunnel
Can you talk about sampfuncs? Many cleos that help you on shooting servers need sampfuncs, but I installed it and the GTA that I installed with your guide automatically crashes
Even as a child I didn't find that mission hard to beat. I had problems with Just Business. And in the DE some of the airstrip missions are a pain in the ass since the controls are shitty af. Anyway when's your video about the difficulty level coming out? When I was young and SA just came out I read about a dynamic difficulty of the missions. But I never felt that so I thought it didn't make it to the game.
The reason why it *appears* to be "such a hard mission" is the that average player simply isn't capable of observing how the game behaves, attention spans haven't exactly gotten better over the generations. All you have to do is follow 'the damn train' at a steady pace and distance, make sure Smoke can get a clear shot each time. Never had any issues with it and neither would most people if they just bothered to use their heads for one second.
Don't know why people complain about this mission, just Don't hug the train stay as far right as you can, people are somehow expecting Smoke can magicly shoot straight up and hit the Vagos😂 Being further away gives you a shallower angle and a greater chance to hit
Can you make a video where we can make separate gta sa user tracks for different gtas. Like if i have 2 gta, one is clean gta and another one is modded gta which is for samp. And the both gta uses the same user tracks which is a pain .

Who else is able to complete this mission before the train even enters the first tunnel, with no trick like jumping with the bike on the train or anything, but just by nailing the exact distance to make Smoke aim at the Vagos properly? I do.

There are two other missions they were going to implement it in, but it's disabled just like it is for this mission.

Somehow just beat this mission in the remastered first try as the game intended.
For me the hardest mission is the one with Zero asked you to use RC Plane to kill some guys lol
This mission isn't hard for me unlike what I was doing back then, basically, you just need to stick close to the locomotive to catch up with it and move away to help Big Smoke land accurate shots, if done right you can kill all the Vagos just when the train enters the tunnel in Jefferson.
How much health do they have in PS2 1.03 version ? Is it more than 500 HP ?
I’ve never had a problem with this mission just stay close at the front and let him take out one by one from the guy in the back first. If you get it right you can finish the mission right at the start of the train tunnel.
I know you probably wont see this but I'm having a problem involving audio in gta sa... only some audio works, I'm not sure how to explain it but I've tried everything such as downloading the audio files again and troubleshooting but nothing works. the only time the audio works fully is when I've freshly installed the game and run it for the first time. every other time I run it it glitches out the audio. if you see this could you please help me as I would be very grateful

Its way to passed the mission is go outside the tracks or move away the train so Smoke was shooting perfectly

on mobile, m4 from the airport on lock on mode and getting not too behind the train and letting lock on do its thing should finish the mission before you even go to the first tunnel

lol this mission is so easy, the jet pack are really difficult, especially the Area 51 one if you don’t deactivate the missiles

Can you talk about sampfuncs? Many cleos that help you on shooting servers need sampfuncs, but I installed it and the GTA that I installed with your guide automatically crashes

Even as a child I didn't find that mission hard to beat. I had problems with Just Business. And in the DE some of the airstrip missions are a pain in the ass since the controls are shitty af.
Anyway when's your video about the difficulty level coming out? When I was young and SA just came out I read about a dynamic difficulty of the missions. But I never felt that so I thought it didn't make it to the game.

The reason why it *appears* to be "such a hard mission" is the that average player simply isn't capable of observing how the game behaves, attention spans haven't exactly gotten better over the generations. All you have to do is follow 'the damn train' at a steady pace and distance, make sure Smoke can get a clear shot each time. Never had any issues with it and neither would most people if they just bothered to use their heads for one second.

Because people have a skill issue. It's not really that hard
Don't know why people complain about this mission, just Don't hug the train stay as far right as you can, people are somehow expecting Smoke can magicly shoot straight up and hit the Vagos😂
Being further away gives you a shallower angle and a greater chance to hit

Can you make a video where we can make separate gta sa user tracks for different gtas. Like if i have 2 gta, one is clean gta and another one is modded gta which is for samp. And the both gta uses the same user tracks which is a pain .

Who else is able to complete this mission before the train even enters the first tunnel, with no trick like jumping with the bike on the train or anything, but just by nailing the exact distance to make Smoke aim at the Vagos properly? I do.
