Fun fact about the night lights: In Red Light district (GTA III) there's a building where, instead of adding the lights over the building, the complete building is replaced during nightime, there's also a few wonky things with the collision, but in an unmodded game, they work ok.
i've honestly never heard anyone talk about those hidden speed limits in certain areas of the map before but that makes so much sense to me looking back now. i always swore i could feel cars going slower when driving around the strip, it's nice to know i'm not insane.
6:20 add also the fact that it removes the rain shader from all the map, not only under the bridge: Meaning that if you look outsilde from a tunner or from under a bridge, the rain effect will be gone for the whole map, until you come out again.
I knew that road signs weren't textures because I was playing with Map Editor and they won't show up there. Linking the text to the roads themselves is so genius
Love this game and learning more about it. Even after 20 years, it's incredible to still be learning new things. Awesome video, this one's gonna be a hit.
The bit about the road signs is interesting, because there's quite a lot of signs over the map that Rockstar forgot to add text to. I guess fixing it shouldn't be as difficult as I thought it would be, haha.
@@YOEL_44 Beats having to manually create textures for each individual sign and importing them into the game lol. The game already has the system for sign text in place, it's a matter of filling up the missing text. Laborious? yes, but worth it IMHO for the added immersion.

The speedlimit was a fact well known by the stunters, it was used to check if a player was cheating or not, as reaching some area wasn't possible with the speed restriction ;) It was possible to cross the speed limit with a bike trick but the air resistance couldn't be bypass, so the top speed was limited even while doing a perfect glitch ;)
I didn't actually aim for the ramp. I used that same footage in my "The Hidden Speed Limits of GTA San Andreas" video, and I intentionally crashed into the church.

@@novawolf_gaminggood i suppose I honestly thought 4 was so boring, yea the city is definitely detailed very well, but liberty city just sucks imo, it’s not a fun location like Sa or vice city.
I wonder if the road sign system is in any way similar to GTA V's car license plate system, as the frames are different textures but the text is seperate, with modding you can also add more fictional plates like Liberty State, or real ones like UK style or the weird Russian style.
I linked this video in the Silent Patch thread on GTA Forums, so maybe Silent will fix the helicopter-bridge bug.. And then i was surprised to see you being the 2nd person who ever commented this thread, exactly 11 years ago, Dec 29 2013. Interesting coincidence!
Is there any mod to have thisen sunday from the beginning all the time? Or to restore it? Really good video. Sub and like. I knew the beginning of the game was unique
the entire police helicopter system is actually completely diffrent in San Andreas, in gta 3 and vc, they used their own separate npc models to chase the player down and had diffrent physics to the helicopters you could fly, these would often clip into buildings and were very slow, but it was all redone in san andreas, now the npc helis could collide with buildings and were slightly faster, but the "helicopter free zone" you mentioned in the video actually applies to vice city as well, its actually becomes ridiculous when driving at the second island where there are many bridges you go under, the police heli will just fly away constantly.
The hardcoded light is interesting because one of the things that drives me crazy in the Definitive Edition is that black as a vehicle color looks gray. Even stranger, when you paint a car black in the vehicle mod shop, it looks like a nice deep black, but as soon as you leave the mod shop and are outside, it goes back to looking gray. I just wanna recreate Alonzo’s car from Training Day but I can’t because it looks gray. It’s so lame.
4:22 i hated that on vanilla pc. Broken lighting made npcs look like they're made of cardboard. Sometimes even cars like the Super GT didn't even cast that mild hardcoded light.
2:03 Where is this texture stored? I've never seen it before. Also, notice the alien symbol at the bottom left corner. Is it actually used in any of the signs?
I can't remember exactly, but I think it's stored in particle.txd, I'd have to check to confirm though. Also it might be used in one of the arcade games? Not sure.
The more I learn about GTA San Andreas, the more I question reality on how they managed to launch this on a PS2.. and it plays better than the versions that released after.
Hardcoding something instead of using a functionality that is already there is something programmers do all the time when they are new to a code base (or when they just dont care)
