Summer Mic So true, I'm just soaking in all of him that I can, I'm really into his unreleased material such as songs and especially concert recordings. He is right about todays music if I can say anything, most of the so called singers now have absolutly no talent and can't sing for shit and its all autotune and samples of other music artists work, but they are treated like they are the best in the world and that nobody else can do what they do.
It's not really that they can't sing but more that they can't write good songs. Bob Dylan can't sing for shit and the guy has countless songs that are mind blowing.
What is amazing is that I'm 12, and I still love his music! I listen to songs he made 30+ years ago, and I love it! That is what makes him a legend. Being able to make music that still is great to listen to when your my age is awesome. I love you so much Prince... Can't stop crying:( RIP
I didn't actually realize how much I really loved this guy until everyone put their recordings out to the net. He so didn't give a shit what everyone thought, and that's what EVERY ARTIST should be like. Art is not for sale. It is for God. If people like it. Great. But it comes from God and is for God.
+Anna Elizabeth Yep, he talked about artists needing to veer towards spirituality to aide them in their work. Spirituality gives a person focus and makes you centered. A lot of young folks will learn about Prince and be inspired and do what Prince is talking about.

I didn't know this prince until now.. amazing. Much respect. Go with the angels.. I thought I saw you in the sky, wearing a big pruple hat. Enjoy the middle Prince.
Prince is correct, music today sounds very different. I think music today sounds awful. I agree with Prince... the new music artists today make packaged music with too much technology, & it sounds fake to me. The good old music album days have the best lyrics, songs, sound, & singers voices. I do miss how good the older music sounded. Prince is a music legend! I love his music!
Isn't Prince's last few albums (AOA, HNR, and PlectrumElectrum) made with technology and shit like that as well? Besides instruments that Prince played, he put plenty of tech in his music a couple decades ago, so what does it even mean anymore anyway? At the same time, I also agree with you on that part as well. I wish pop music nowadays is more homemade than it is half-baked, something like a frozen packaged, or just plain awful. That's it, but at least putting tech in music can sound good too, depends on your taste and your opinion.
Oh Lordy, Lord!! Prince being interviewed by Matt Lauer.......this man has NO CLUE whatsoever! Prince was so cool and said about comeback....."What am I coming back to."........Like, hey dumbass........I never left. I got you, Prince, I got you :)

Ashley Burns A lot of 'em are afraid to sing live! I was really shocked when Katy Perry and Missy Elliot sang live at the Superbowl! The biggest stage of the year and they nailed it!
+PentegonVirtue Why don't you check my Jukebox and LISTEN to the kind of music I enjoy before YOU comment on ANYONE else's comments. Oops, Ed Sheeren has a song on that list, which reminded me A LOT of Prince's music! BTW my comment about why Perry and Missy Eliot's live performance impressed me is because they are young and had a reputation for being producer driven, but they both showed there is much more to them and like I said, they were fearless. Finally, I've heard John Legend sing live but I'm ambivalent because I'm not generally wild about his music.
Matt Lauer was just the wrong guy to interview Prince. Prince had a negative or confused reaction to every question, because Lauer comes off as a completely non-musical jerk who didn't like Prince, or have any understanding of who he was really talking to. Lauer tries SO hard to be cutting edge, but it's so plastic. Painful to listen to.

Prince is mysterious and that's a good thing, because whenever you see and hear him, you hang onto his every word...He is a genius, there's no doubt about that...Not only is he a brilliant songwriter and vocalist, but he has mastered 20 musical instrumentals...His album, "Purple Rain" and Michael Jackson's "Thriller" are, to me, the two best R&B/Pop albums of the 20th century...On the subject of MJ, I wish that Prince and he had done a song together...That would've been something to behold.
Jerrie, Maybe we didn't know him personally ,though he intertwined himself into each and everyone of our lives with his music. He very much became a part of our lives by reaching out, helping us in creating our memories that went along with his songs. His songs of love, passion and heart. Learn what he believed in as his faith at JW.org, learn where his hope after death was. He would want all to know and take comfort in it, this was HIS truth. We all mourn as we should, because he touched us all so greatly.
I felt for Prince during this interview. You have an amazing musician and performer and you ask these sorts of throwaway questions. What a waste of his time.
Ernie Reyes got it right. A talented "musician" for over 25 years with no end in sight. There's a reason why people get so excited about him when he plays on TV. He's been extremely blessed as a person.
Prince matured so much during over the years just looks at his past interviews from American bandstand and during the under the cherry moon ...he was bound to break that craziness he was doing I think once he realized how the industry was that told it all he had to mature up and get the truth out
Ok, From the minute this man crawled up out of that tub and held out his hand in the world premiere of When Doves Cry on MTV I knew it was gonna be one heck of a ride, but wow, what STYLE,(look at him KILLING it in white and blue ;) charm, Intelligence and charisma...PRESENCE! Thats the word I was looking for...There will never be another as great. Love you Prince, RIP ~
I have been watching prince interview and I am.very touched by his manners his love and. care for. All the people in this world he loves his faith and he loves god such a nice soul. its as if you could feel.his heart wonderful we will never forget him in God has him
"The record industry -- they tend to promote things that are more salacious..." Um, yes. This is true, but I believe Prince wrote songs called "Soft and Wet," "Head,", "Darling Nikki," "Get Off", "Erotic City," "Come," etc.
Em Jay Enn Precisely, but Prince won't even sing those songs anymore. He's even on record for saying that when he was younger he was trying to "get attention". His lyrics became tamer with EMANCIPATION when he and his then-wife Mayte were expecting a baby; they became less explicit and more suggestive. After he became a Jehovah Witness we didn't even have that anymore. Not that I mind, I just hope he's steered away from that Jazz sound he experimented with after "Musicology" came out...
xaaxce I think he only put out one album in the 70s: FOR YOU (His very FIRST and it came out in 1978) It's not bad but what's really cool about it is that he played all the instruments! His second album PRINCE came out in 1980 and that's the one that has I FEEL FOR YOU (which was covered by Chaka Kahn and I WANNA BE YOUR LOVER one of my all time favorites!) What are my favorites? There are so many I enjoy but the albums I listen to repeatedly are: AROUND THE WORLD IN A DAY\PARADE (Tied for how often played) RAVE UN2 THE JOY FANTASTIC ANDROGYNOUS (or the Symbol Album) with songs like "7" and "And God Created Woman") CONTROVERSY (with "Do Me Baby") SIGN O THE TIMES DISK 2 (From Emancipation) SIDE 1 (of Graphitti Bridge; "Joy In Repetition" is another fav) I love PURPLE RAIN and BATMAN but the problem is that I played them so often when they first came out, I got tired of them and now only play them occasionally. "Scandalous" reminds me of a woman I was in love with who I didn't marry, so it's kind of painful. I've got my collection divided between Pre and Post 2000 Prince!
xaaxce SLY STONE and PARLIAMENT (George Clinton) are largely responsible for fusing Rock and Funk and people like Rick James and Prince jumped on it, although Prince took it to a much higher level due to his wide range of influences: besides "Funk\Rock" he also liked French cabaret music, spanish flamenco, and classical; Prince put it all in the blender that is his mind and came up with a new sound. It was called "The Minneapolis Sound" and not only did his side acts like The Time and Vanity 6 follow his lead he had a whole host of imitators!
It can be a fine line. From what I've seen, he's definitely grown artistically and probably changed and now has somewhat different standards. My thought is that Prince is correct and that his statement reflects wisdom and maturity as opposed to hypocracy.
His Royal Badness, Purple Majesty, my pocket-sized boyfriend💜💜💜 The world is less bright since his passing. We will not have another Prince in our lifetimes. He is an original Treasure and these 'artists' coming up now can/should learn from him. Rest In Peace💜💜💜

Love you Prince, RIP ~
lmfao....prince is making a comeback...PRINCE: what am i coming back to....lol..priceless
Everything about Prince was so sexy. That voice, that face...💜💜💜💜
The Purple One Died Young and Left A Pretty Corpse. RIP To The Legend Prince Rogers Nelson.

He was keeping it real

"The record industry -- they tend to promote things that are more salacious..."
Um, yes.
His second album PRINCE came out in 1980 and that's the one that has I FEEL FOR YOU (which was covered by Chaka Kahn and I WANNA BE YOUR LOVER one of my all time favorites!)
What are my favorites? There are so many I enjoy but the albums I listen to repeatedly are:
AROUND THE WORLD IN A DAY\PARADE (Tied for how often played)
RAVE UN2 THE JOY FANTASTIC
ANDROGYNOUS (or the Symbol Album) with songs like "7" and "And God Created Woman")
CONTROVERSY (with "Do Me Baby")
SIGN O THE TIMES
DISK 2 (From Emancipation)
SIDE 1 (of Graphitti Bridge; "Joy In Repetition" is another fav)
I love PURPLE RAIN and BATMAN but the problem is that I played them so often when they first came out, I got tired of them and now only play them occasionally.
It was called "The Minneapolis Sound" and not only did his side acts like The Time and Vanity 6 follow his lead he had a whole host of imitators!
yes he did and I loved those songs. Prince could do anything
Yes, but at least he made the real meaning of Salacious look classy and loving.
His such a beautiful one💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
"All that's good and funky"........gotta love it. He was so soft-spoken and well-spoken. He was one of my favorites! R.I.P.
Wow.. Matt is soo in his face... I'd have slap him for being so loud and blunt ;P
"a little guitar playing man" that's like calling Michael Jordan a man who dribbles a ball.
Humble and intelligent. A phenomenal talent, who has left a lasting musical legacy. Still missing Prince, but he's at peace with the ancestors.
come back ...he never left!!!!! Sing and Play in Peace!
He was quite salacious for a long time. I guess Prince forgot that he used salacious, too.
It can be a fine line. From what I've seen, he's definitely grown artistically and probably changed and now has somewhat different standards. My thought is that Prince is correct and that his statement reflects wisdom and maturity as opposed to hypocracy.
Prince literally looked good wearing heels.
I never knew how much I loved him until...I miss you, Prince. i wish I had known.
So sad. He probably died alone.

His Royal Badness, Purple Majesty, my pocket-sized boyfriend💜💜💜
The world is less bright since his passing. We will not have another Prince in our lifetimes. He is an original Treasure and these 'artists' coming up now can/should learn from him. Rest In Peace💜💜💜
