I played a super quick round of this game a few years ago at a friend's house and I loved it, even though we failed miserably. I'm a relative newbie to board games in general, so this is the first cooperative board game I had ever seen/played. I knew right away that this was the game for my wife and me, because we get a little too competitive sometimes when we are pitted against each other. Unfortunately, it totally fell off my radar until a couple months ago. Just picked it up a couple days ago at the store, and now I'm excited to play tonight! I just watched your play through for a refresher... thanks a ton!

I'm surprised you didn't mention the components, specifically the flying machine. That is great. I like that the designer opted to have the 3d representation of actually putting the machine together instead of just having to find the pieces and placing them aside. It adds to the immersion of the game.

I am someone who gets nervous about introducing a game I've never played before to new people, so I've been avoiding busting out Forbidden Desert. You not only helped me get a solid understanding of how to actually play, but made me so excited to start playing! I can't wait to start exploring, and I will definitely look for your other videos if I'm learning how to play a new game!!! Thank you!

FI can certainly be very challenging, but it never feels like the decisions are hard to make. Generally it always feels like there's a very obvious move to make, and we just tend to go through the motions. Played it 5 times or so, and just never felt the urge to play again.
Admittedly, we only played with the standard 'round' island. :)

Great review, out of all the playthroughs I have watched this one was amazing, very tense....

amit zarfati sorry i can't reply directly to you... youtube sucks sometimes. anyway, for you, based on what you described, i would think Forbidden Desert is DEFINITELY the way to go over Pandemic. If she loves FD, you can "step up" to Pandemic later :)

Well, that's cleared up what I should get my wife for her 40th! Thanks for this series of vids, specialising in 2P games is a perfect fit for us too, being we live on a remote Danish island rather lacking in a board gaming scene!

I like the idea of the tin. It reminds me of the tins that contain biscuits and other edible foods. Though if you grab some biscuits out of this particular tin, I wouldn't be surprised if they taste a bit sandy!

Great run through, I love this game as well... The difficulty and tension has definitely been turned up a notch in this one (compared to island). As always you are a blast to watch, u crack me up man. Keep trucking, you're the best hands on reviewer out there.

Great review, Rahdo. I felt the same way about Pandemic that you did about Forbidden Island, with it being too simple and stuff...but something about this game makes it look a lot more appealing than those games. I'll have to give it a try when I get the chance.

Kind of makes you want to watch Flight of the Phoenix. The one with Jimmy Stewart of course. I bet you anything that was the inspiration for this game.

I want to get this game after watching you play it. I watched Forbidden Island on Tabletop and it didn't look very good but this game looks better.

I'm a beginner/novice gamer (hence never played this since its release) with a tendency to avoid strategy games, especially if I might lose (what, work for my enjoyment which isn't guaranteed? No thanks). But, I really enjoyed your play and the entertaining and emotive commentary! Additionally, I liked the moments when you appeared as the animated alien-like silhouette reflected in the tin. I like the design a lot and agree that tins are great (why not give them a pride of place among your cookie/biscuit/cake tins so you can grab it and the refreshments in one move?). I'm glad I watched this as I was second-guessing my decision to order the game after reading up on too many other games!

  • @LadyBherd

Bought for the tin. Kept for the game.
I love this and Island, but the tin is what got me to buy them in the first place!

I found this game very lacking, and also a pain to actually play (so many bits to move about and place). Whereas Forbidden Island is one of our favourites. Shrug.

  • @mad-k6q
    @mad-k6q Год назад

No reason not to get it and play by myself since I don't have an apple phone to play the Forbidden app on or a paid membership to websiter that has this game. Despite it's hedge to make losers winners and winners losers with their "nobody wins" game mechanic I still like the game.

I don't understand why Forbidden Island seems too simple for you. Have you tried the other Island shape setups? Some are pretty hard and lead to difficult decisions. While Pandemic is the better game, the modular setup is what I really like more (beside the shorter duration). Sure, it's a simpler game and this seems more challenging, you just have to get them all.
