I remember people use to insist that Peter Tork couldn't sing as well as the others. I can't imagine any of them hearing this and still believing that. As much as I'm a huge Michael Nesmith fan (he's probably my favorite songwriter and musician ever) and I adore both versions of this song on the album, I have to applaud Peter for bringing something beautiful to this song.
The fact Peter could still sing that well after the cancer surgery on his jaw and throat is absolutely amazing. RIP Nez, I hope Davy and Peter were waiting for you.
My fiancé and I used to send each other different RUclips videos of music even before we starting dating as were in different states. We continued to do that the entire time we were together. She passed away at age 40 from cancer in January 2023. Tonight I was going through some videos here in YT and missing her so much when this one came up. Not only is it quite possibly my favorite Monkees song, I’m grateful to the poster- the nickname she most Often went by was Sunny13 ❤
Peter was never given a proper chance, his voice was amazing. If you listen closely, he has some vibrato. People judge him unfairly with Your auntie Grezelda. He did that one differently because that song dictated it. Phenomenal musician.
He was the Brian Jones of the Monkees. He could play everything and he had the touch to make a good song great with his musicianship and harmony vocals. He didn’t love the bass, but damn he played it really well when called up. Peter could do it all.
Wow, I haven't heard Peter singing this song. Brings a lot of emotions as I listen. Thank you so much for putting this out there for us. I love Nez, but Pete singing it and Micky harmonizing with him is just amazing
I've loved Peter's voice practically my whole life. What a beautiful rendition of this song. Soft and sweet. He also does a wonderful version of Early Morning Greens and Blues on his Step by Step CD. How I wish he was given more songs to sing back in the day! But concerts like this make him shine. Thanks so much for posting this. It really touched my heart.
He was so good but didn't get the credit the others did. Still, he had his own cult of followers, and we know what it was all about. Such a beautiful soul shining in the heavens now ❤️
Absolutely gorgeous. One of the best songs of all time. An epitaph for the Monkees. So lovely to watch Peter sing Mike’s part together with Micky. His guitar grace notes are in themselves a tribute to his musical contributions to a magical, and terribly underappreciated band, “The Monkees.” ❤
Precious souls who have brought so much joy to so many people, God Bless you guys, much love and respect. You guys were absolutely the reason I got so into music and became a musician, when I started watching your show as a child in the early 70's. Headquarters is still in my top 5 albums of all time. Rest in Peace Davy and Peter.
I've just discovered this song (both versions) with Mike and Nez. I am still dumb struck that a duet like that had never existed between them before. Exquisite. And then - this. Too much in one day. I love you so much Peter and all of my boys xxx
I love them all. But Peter was my favorite Monkee ever since I was a little boy. It’s really cool to see him sing this song with Micky. I really miss him. I was so lucky I got to see the 3 of them in 2013 before he died. Dolenz is crushing it as usual 😂😭
Every version I've heard of this song is magic. My only complaint is that in all of them I can't hear Mickey's voice enough. I've loved his voice since I was a child.
Two of my fave artists together singing a touching, poignant tune that brings tears to my eyes!! My love for the Monkees grows greater every time I embrace their legendary music!!! RIP DAVY, MIKE AND PETER ......FOREVER MISSED
I've only just discovered this album. I can't believe such an exquisite duet as the one on this song took so long to exist between Micky and Mike. I was spellbound. And then - there is this. Too, too much all in one day. Peter you are beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing this with us xxx
I haven't found earlier in year video I did when Peter learning song. Beautiful. There was one of those endearing moments during song we felt so must find which concert and if have this song or it will show. Maybe Primm if song wasn't done during May. Thanks for posting. This is the version I feel is most special even more so now so I've been looking for this.
It is an absolute outrage that the Monkees aren't in The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame! I will never visit the Hall Of Fame Museum unless they are inducted.
Two old men singing about loss. Heartbreaking, beautiful, and possibly their best song since 1968. Here come the waterworks....
They were still young in spirit. Love them. ❤️
Yes
They packed more life into those years than most of us. Its okay to get old if your life has lots of memories. ❤😊

100% agreed
Peter can sing as well as the other three Monkees. RIP Peter
The fact Peter could still sing that well after the cancer surgery on his jaw and throat is absolutely amazing. RIP Nez, I hope Davy and Peter were waiting for you.
Beautiful...
Love and miss Peter.
"when you've slipped into the arms of the undiscovered" RIP Peter. Miss you already.
If you don’t choke up at “Do you see a long lost father? Does he hold you with a hand you remember as a child”, you have a heart of stone…

You are missed, Peter, already
Magdalena is my full name! I never thought I’d hear it in a song!🥰
It's a great name
@@JasonUmbrellabird Thank you!

Agreed. My favorite.
Me too

He sang well as the second half of a duet on "Words". He was amazing as a musician, and very funny on the show.
I say this song is the best late-in-a-career song of any of their contemporaries
The sign of a great song ~ I'm a huge Nez fan, but this too is a fine version with Peter's sweet voice.
Yes, yes it is.
Peter had a very beautiful voice. It only got better with age and more refined... almost effortless. Just like breathing.
I never heard it with Peter on lead! Really nice!

I always thought he especially shined in live performances.

Agreed!
So true...I'm one
Me to
Can't listen to this song without tears
How interesting to hear Peter sing this! I'm so glad you posted this.
I’ve never heard it with Micky and Peter. Great

What a lovely song! I miss Davy, Peter, and Mike so much. 😢
That was Peter's finest moment....bravo

Clearly the best version I have seen of this song!
Cannot disagree with that. Poor Peter always got put in the back, but he shouldn’t have.
@@annescamilla1 He must have been a very patient man or just rose above all the crap. Miss him every day.
I think that you are right about Peter. I miss him, and the group, always.
Pete did a great job on this!

Mike and Nez are the same person.
I think he meant Micky and Nez.

Peter and Davy are both missed,

💔Brought me to tears. God bless the forever memory of Peter Tork.
You are missed so much, Peter.
This is lovely. I can't believe it took me two years to find it here. Thank you for posting it!
Wow, Peter sang that so beautifully.
wow. I'm not typically much of a fan of Peter's vocals, but this is really good
Peter, you are definitely still missed by me!
So lovely...R.I.P. Peter
Thank you I love this song! kind of sad the younger folks seem not to get the vibes of this tune ! Anyhow that's the way the world rolls rock on!
terry cahoe I'm young and adore this song! Don't feel sad a lot of my friends love old music/bands (i make sure of it!)
This comment is 3 years old but I’m a young person here
Good music lives on 😂
So Beautiful. ❤

Just beautiful. Peter always came across to me as laid back and collected...kind of, consistent. RIP Peter (David and Michael, too) 🙏🏻
Wonderful performance and an excellent recording. I dig it!
Beautifully done Micky and Peter (RIP)
sunnygirlfriend13 thanks for posting this! beautiful rendition.

🙏❤️
I watched the Monkees every Saturday, I was 11 and loved them 😅
Why didn’t they release this version of this song? Peter and micky blend so well together
The only reason Peter did it is because Michael wasn't present at that concert.
I totally agree!!

I love THe Monkees and this song !
Beautiful.

😭
This is making me cry...
Peter sounds actually pretty good in this
Such a beautiful song.
A different key for Peter Tork, great job of this beautiful song though 👍❤️❤️
I have somewhere of many combinations of this song. Micky & Peter, Micky & Mike and Micky and Coco. All very beautiful
great recording excellent
The only time, I’m almost happy I was named “ Magdalena”........
😍
It is an absolute outrage that the Monkees aren't in The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame! I will never visit the Hall Of Fame Museum unless they are inducted.
Ben Gibbard is a great song writer.
sweet dreams
Beautiful ❤
Oh my gosh...Davy on the screen in the background while this is being performed.💔If you know, you know.
