"What do the Fedaykin say?" Chani asked. "They believe Paul is in a sacred trance, gathering his holy powers before the final battles. This is a thought I've cultivated."
The final line in Dune is when Jessica turns to Chani and says "History will remember us as wives." But they could not do that for the movie lest they upset the Feminist-Leftist Death Cult; so they had no choice but to completely change Chani's character. Dissapointing but understandable.
That doesn't resonate with today's world and doesn't translate well to the screen. It was a great call to change her. Die hard dune fanatics don't know what makes a great film, you need conflict, you need character and to have chani be some boring wife who has little presence would leave the scenes she is in flat and uninteresting
Just spoilers but Denis Villeneuve isn't adapting all of Dune, just till Messiah. So I imagine that to bring his adaptation to a similar conclusion as the books did, he needs to change some things. If the adaptation just ends at Messiah and was completely faithful to the books then some of the lessons that the books will not be clear. Change in Chani's likely are necessary to make sure lessons reach the audience. Also Villeneuve and his team have done tremendous work with both the films I trust them with the last one as well
This scene is the best. Paul waked up looking like a totally different person. Such great acting!
That part gave me chills. It’s like his mind evolved into something completely different and new. Chills

That’s not Paul… not anymore.
Chani smacking Paul in the face the way she does at 1:29... I just cracked up laughing in the theater
Bro beat Jesus’s respawn time
