The 50mm lens was the standard lens back in the day when I started photography, and normal included when you bought a camera. The 50mm lens or nifty fifty seems to have been forgotten these days, with the rise of the standard zoom (24-70mm) lenses, the standard zoom is a more versatile lens so the 50mm has lost favour with some photographers.
Hi David hope you're well and thanks for commenting. Having watch/read all the reviews the F1.8 seemed to be the better buy, as it's a newer lens compared to to F1.4 so has a upgraded AF motor & an asperical lens element which according to the reviews the 1.4 hasn't got. So for under halk the cost of the 1.4 it's a better choice. Best wishes stay safe Jon
I have the F1.8g, from what i hear, it is a tad sharper than the F1.4g. It is a real bargain of a superb quality lens. Such a useful focal length as well.
@@mikewilson8513 Hi Mike, thanks for commenting, after watching loads of youtube videos I think that's what most reviewers said, and I believe it's the newer AF motor which is supposed to be quicker and has an ED lens element. The 1.4G is about double the price but certainly not double the quality, definitely a great lens to have in your camera bag.
Hi Jon, hope you are both well. Nifty 50 seems to be a great lens across all the manufactures, great test shots, Happy 30th Birthday for last week. Have you been to this place before? and you seem to have a camera attached to your gopro lol
@@keithguppy Hi Keith hope you're well and thanks for commenting. A 50mm is definitely worth having in your camera bag, but it seems to be out of fashion these days in favour of the standard zoom. Definitely been here before, it's national trust so we get in for free. It's a special adapter for the gopro to take photos, I can remember being 30 once about 30 years 😅. Best wishes stay safe Jon and Karen
Hey Jon, hope you both are well. Nifty Fifty, a must have (and an 85mm). Broke mine (50mm) and not replaced it yet, but that's only due to me upgrading the camera soon which is a different mount. Nice test shots. Stay Safe.
Hi Steve hope you're well & thanks for commenting. A nifty Fifty is a must have in your camera bag, I thinks it one's of those lenses that doesn't get used much but sometimes it's the best lens to have to get the "Shot". The 85mm is also a good choice, a nice lens for portraits. Upgrading you camera, looking forward to catching up and hearing about your new camera. Best Wishes Stay safe Jon & Karen
Hi Jon. Hope you’re doing ok. Great video mate. Nice show and tell. I got a similar lens for my Canon, I don’t use it that much. But I nice lens to keep in your camera bag. Take care mate, shawn
Hi Shawn hope you're well & thanks for commenting. The 50mm has certainly lost favour with photographers, the the standard zoom (24-70mm) people including me leave perminently attached to the camera, but when i started it was the first lens most people bought. To be honest i wouldn't have got it but for the deal i had when i part ex'd my beloved Nikon f5 and got 2 lenses in the deal inlcuding this one. Best wishes stay safe Jon & Karen.

Great to see a reasonably priced lens and the results it produces. Enjoyed the review and the walk and of course the squeaky swing. Regards David 📷👍
