I have a 02 24v with a slush box and the truck is starting to fall apart sadly. Good parts are getting hard to find or expensive. My goal is to swap it with a 6 speed into a 5th gen 2500 regular cab 2wd. The only electronics will be safety related. Antitheft is having a 3rd pedal haha. I want as basic of a truck as possible with my favorite engine.
About 8 years ago my bro and I went to check out a 1996 Cummins reg cab 2 wd 5-speed for sale. 142k miles, 1 owner. Asking $6500. It was so much fun to drive but so slow. . Which made it even more fun. Such a cool truck.
Now you need a high low range box to couple up to your main gearbox so you can have 10 gears to go through and you'd have a hell of a truck. Sounds amazing that does
Got a Gear Vendors on mine. Pretty rough, but then again it's been a tow rig since about 1997 lol. 😂 Was my Dad's rig for years and years, until I bought it off him a few years ago. It's switched hands between me and my brother in law a couple times since then, but I'm about to buy it back from him for good this time. I hope. Financial troubles suck.
I thought about a gear vendors but apparently they don’t do well on a 12v. Think it’s because they don’t like engine braking? Went with a set of gov springs instead. Just rev it to about 2500 in 3rd with a really heavy load and 4th isn’t so bad anymore.
@@APECK636 yep and the increased horse power and torque is wasted on a hydraulically linked transmission where the manual only has a 1 percent loss of torque to the wheels as compared to your 35% loss with a torque converter. Where it’s needed to get you moving from a stand still. That’s why anyone who tows heavy replaces there automatic after burning them up with aftermarket Eaton Fuller manuals that last way longer and handle the abuse the automatics cant and weren’t designed to do in the first place.
@@APECK636 something odd as My 2017 runs like a beast don’t know why chirps tires between second and third and third in fourth if the boost is up and I pop the clutch. I've been driving a Cummins X15 Kenworth around and this is so much simpler than a big truck. Double clutching doesn't come naturally, I can say that for certain.
That is the cleanest late 90s Dodge Cummins pickup I've ever seen. In my neck of the woods, most of these types of puckups have been completely trashed due to years of abuse.
I have a similar truck, that slight pause between shifts, where the stick doesnt "let" you push it all the way into gear, im guessing thats normal? Also, putting in first at times at a stop sign can be a pain, a quick shift into 4th and then trying again for 1st does the trick

There aren’t enough comments about how clean that interior is. That’s a well maintained truck. RESPECT.

One of the best sounding 12 valve videos on RUclips. Not too raspy or high pitched. Sounds like an old semi truck
They are definitely the best sounding diesels.

So cool that 5.9 sound what a beast. Honestly a automatic on 5.9 or 6.7 is just a tragedy and waste of torque and horse power.
