I picked this up today on their flash sale for $69.
It still looked like Duro to me, maybe with a better lume and a nicer caseback. But USD275 with no hack, no Saphhire, 10,000 units are not that limited actually... Anyway, I just got a Certina DS Podium black dial with Powermatic 80 for the same price.
They got the strap from SB Tanning Red Wing . It's company based in Minnasota that are famous for the leather shoes and products excellent quality leather that is sourced in the US but they are maunfuctured in China, but under SB Tannings watch and specifications. Sort of like how your iPhone is made in China.
Love the watch. Definitely getting one. So much fun man.

I think the standard for any major brand should include sapphire, screw down crown, solid endlink & milled clasp.
The singular of indices is index.
SB Foot is the tannery where the leather comes from...then it is manufactured in China..same leather in Red Wing boots
Great review. Thanks for that. If no one else has said it, SB Foot is the leather tannery (in Red Wing, MN) which produces much of the leather for Red Wing Boots.
Chris, nice vid and yes, they could've used the 821A Miyota it's a date but hacks or the non-date one which hacks and has no ghost date position. Sapphire crystals also as microbrands and homage watches give you so much more for the same or less money. This is a field watch sort of look, although it has a bezel insert ala diver. Anyway, nice watch and excellent non-bias review. Have a great Thanksgiving!
3:44 you are not measuring the diametre, but a segment of a circle (min 46 to min 12), that is why you do not get 40.
Overpriced? Maybe. Do I care? NO.
Such a simple execution; 3,6, 9 indices, red seconds, great lume and sweet spot case size (even with my 8 inch wrist)? Why it resonated immediately with me IDK but I had to have it and now it's been on my wrist for 2 weeks as my new daily.
Do you still have it and what do you think ? I've just bought one off Chrono24 sold out on Hodinkee website paid $226 with extra strap .

I’m a sucker for 3-6-9 dials. Got mine in the mail the other day and really enjoy it. Overpriced? Probably. But fortunately the limitations of the watch don’t bother me so much, I’m just really into that dial. As for mineral crystal, is Timex in particular known for poor mineral crystals? My SKX (w/ mineral) has been through hell and back and it’s still spotless.

Typical Timex. Looks great and has a great leather strap... but it's a bit of a spec train wreck and it's way over-priced.
Hello Chris. Thank you for your review. In all honesty it doesn't do it for me. To the list of misses I would add the fact that Timex should have added drilled lugs. I would rather pay some more and have all the gaps corrected. On the other hand, if considering this watch as are there's plenty of other choices many with better specs for just about the same money.... For me it is a hard pass. Just got my order from Hodinkee. Rotor movement sounds like a rusty helicopter blade and was louder than me typing this comment. Pulled the crown out to set the time and the seconds hand started moving backwards and skipping/ stopping... Strap is cheap quality and creased within 5 seconds of my trying to put it on my wrist. Now I get to fight with Customer Service to see if they will take the watch back for a full refund. Buyer beware...

First two issues are endemic to the movement. You are going to see this in any watch that uses the movement. Is what it is. I bought a Marlin with 30m WR and the rotor was pretty loud. I tried the James Brand release hoping that a model with 200m WR would deafen the sound but no luck. Just be aware that rotors that can do full rotations can make loud whirling sounds. I’ve encountered the red wing straps before without any issues personally. Best of luck with the return.

Just saw it on Ebay in mint condition for 115 usd but after watching your video I desisted too many shortcomings
This is peak Hodinkee. Take a regular off the shelf (or what very well could be off the shelf) Timex, have the dial printers in China print Hodinkee on the dial, mail in some BS marketing story and charge the sheep an extra $80.- for it.
LImited to 10,000 pieces x $80.- per watch = $800k. Excuse me while I go laugh out loud.

Seriously, it's a Timex and its £250+ , this is the sort of watch that SteelDive love, you can get a obscure (or well known) dive watch homage with saphire and hacking , on a bracelet, with a servicable movment at a mere two or three time more than a Marlin , £100/150, then it would be a bargain. As it is I feel they're taking the piss, then again if I wS rich I'd buy it anyway.🤣Its pretty.
This is a blatant money grab targeting Timex and Hodinkee fan boys. 289usd for a essentially unlimited limited edition using the most basic Miyota movement (with a ghost position no doubt) and a mineral crystal?? The only reason to buy this watch is if you like Timex and are a slave to their marketing and branding. I think that this watch is probably priced 100 over what it should be as it is just a disappointment. Honestly, this feels more like a collaboration with the Reddit subreddit r/watchescirclejerk than with Hodinkee. They did something similar with the Marlin using an unmarked Chinese movement.
This watch is all about its design , (which is gorgeous btw)that is what you pay a little extra for. Some of the comments are hilarious.. Seriously who cares about hacking when it will probably lose a minute a day , and ghost date!! Really! Please tell me how that effects daily use/enjoyment of the watch 😂…good review but focusing on the wrong things here.
I agree the design is really well done. Especially the dial which I think for the price is excellent.
The Dial and look of this watch is classic reminds me of Fifty Fathoms , I have the movement in a couple outher watches and it keeps relatively good time I'm buying this watch for the way it looks All these people talking about value proposition are missing the point . I buy watches for looks mostly and this looks classic .
What about weight/heft? I was disappointed in the automatic Timex Marlin because it is so light and thus, feels cheap.
Just received mine. Love it! Case feels solid and sturdy, unlike the super light Marlin (auto 40mm) case.
Had they thrown in a Sapphire Crystal, Lumed the markers on the Bezel and for added effect, lumed the Hodinkee branding...nothing would have touched it. Even at $400. USD it would have been a winner...missed opportunity Timex.
I think hacking only really matters if the watch warrants it re accuracy. This watch has an accuracy of +/- 20 seconds a day, so hacking doesn't really matter IMO. I swapped the crystal out for a sapphire and replaced the strap with a rubber waffle. This is the perfect holiday/beater watch. I wear it to the beach and around the pool, where I wouldn't want to wear any of my Rolex or Omega's

Watched the Livestream with Rock The Watch first. After your comment about the 👻 pull on a Timex; had to make sure and watch this video.
I'm sorry but, a 👻 pull from a major brand is a no-no no-go for me.
The only bright spot for the watch is literally the lume.
I think you buy this watch for the Dial & the look , I think they nailed the classic 70s Skindiver look .
Sapphire… drilled lugs…steel bracelet is basic for almost 300.00
Timex - HODINKEE rip off.
This is not a bad looking watch but IMHO the value for money just is not there. I would rather have an Orient diver or perhaps a micro brand.
I have several vintage Timex from the late sixties and they still run and keep reasonable time.
I can understand and appreciate the heritage but it is just not for me.
Timex appears to be relying far too much on the longevity of the Brand… as you can find many other micro brands with much better value for dollar! Time to step up Timex!!

Timex has too much of a heritage and buying power to put such outdated crystals and movements in these special pieces and high prices. I’ll stick with their 60 dollar quartz models.

I won't buy these Timex watches. No sapphire, no hacking? It's overpriced. They never get these right. I can get a Certina DS with sapphire, and ETA 2824 for 289.00. Sounds like you're hedging and trying to make this better. It's crap.
Hodinkee collaborations are usually rip-offs and junk.
