I don’t see a lot of people talking about how disappointing Seattle is this year. They added a top 4 defensemen and a top 6 forward, both of which are producing, and are somehow worse than last year with a (I think) overall good roster.
Agreed. I thought they'd be better this year. No real star players, just 3 lines of 2nd liners. Defense has been average in spite of good players. The Kakko trade is looking good for them. Daccord is a good goalie, and they are building up the roster, but really need a star player.
@@Stacy-t1h it's less that we need a star player than we need a locker room leader. Our captain has been injured since November, and it's really shown with the team looking rudderless.
Absolutely brutal two back to back losses against the blues for the flames. That could have been a huge difference for Calgary, but it ended up being a huge difference for St Louis instead.
Vegas, Vegas, Dallas, Colorado, Edmonton, and Florida. And Utah. If the Blues can manage 6 points in those 7 games, it'd be a miracle. To say that they're making it with that much confidence is crazy. In their last 35 games, 20 are against teams THG has in the top 12.
STL has some bad blowouts not in their favor, but the rest of their losses this year look normal. There were a couple during the slump. But Blues losing 8-1 vs both OTT and WSH, are outliers to that total where that (-4) is skewed. Same with Calgary because they play close games normally. Even The Cup finals in 2019 had the Blues losing some games in lopsided fashion before winning The Cup.
Dont let the haters get to you. 'True' blues fans want us to tank for a top 5 pick, for the next franchise guy, doesnt always work, see edmonton. Plus we all know if you just get in anything can happen.
On goal differential, yes I think it’s impact is overstated, however it is no coincidence all these teams are negative and fighting for the final playoff spot.
In the East last season, it felt like Washington got in because no one really wanted the last spot. The West kind of feels that way right now. It feels like none of the teams want the last playoff spot. The East is very competitive this season, it feels like a lot of teams really want the two wildcard spots in the East. But the West feels like they're doing Canadian hospitality: "after you" "no, after you" "no, I insist that you take that last spot" "no, I can't take that, you take it."
The canucks are so miserable to watch, I've seen some disappointing seasons but with the expectations set out by them last season, this might be the most disappointing season ive ever seen them play
Really agree with your comments on Seattle and Ron Francis GM efforts. Followed Canes when he was there…Brind d’Amour the stalwart guy assisting for multiple seasons…what an exciting time to see Canes break out of the endless OT losses and move into a new realm when GM and coaching changes occurred. I think Seattle is team with depth but perhaps with a little more imagination they would fare better. Wealth by of role players but star power not so much. Blysma as Coach reminds me of Bill Peters with Canes…uninspiring but systematic..
If you're one of the wildcard teams in the west, at what point do you start looking at Anaheim in your rear view. The Ducks are playing hard AF right now and beating some good teams!
The best thing about the race in the East might be that the Stadium Series might actually be a big game in terms of standings, in addition to the college football rivalry.
It’ll be an interesting second half of the season for the teams just below an above the wildcard spots in both conferences. A lot of them are fairly close in some cases and the ones you think that should be holding a good spot are slowly falling out of it.
What makes me wonder is why is Rick easy to throw other people under the bus but takes no accountability for himself as a bad coach yes last year was great but as you point out as time goes on, things are not going well
Man.. I’d really love to see the Ducks make it in there. They’re a very respectable team imo. I don’t think they’re as bad as their record, and they have many bright spots in the lineup.
our utah club has been playing well , until a month ago , i think just mostly a younger group , the attendance is full for games due to the new team excitement , defense is playing decent we just don't have top line scorer[s] .but we need to put 3 solid periods together to compete at all . tourigny has put up with & held the team together thru fraud owner meruelo's con game. utah finally has a real home .tourigny is not going anywhere.
Anaheim needs a new coach for a second half of the season surge. Trade Dumolin for a scoring winger and get Zegras on a line with Carlsson once he’s healthy (hopefully soon)
Calgary was expected to be a lottery team, so in my opinion they're kind of playing with house money right now with being in a playoff race, even if this race is a bit of a turtle derby.
I think the perception of Utah is weird. 5 pts. out of last 10 games. Actually last 11. But still there are lot of excuses why they are fine. Well they arent scoring which is quite big thing in hockey would you agree? Nice prospect pool. Well yes... but that is not showing.
Kraken won’t make it. Not putting Wright, McCann, Tolvanen as the third line when Stephenson is LITERALLY the worst center in the league, is embarrassing.
Flames if they trust Wolf (best goalie for borderline teams this season). Blues look decent, Canucks have struggled to find a rhythm and Utah has hopes but no expectations. First wild card will probably be the Wild who MIGHT finish three or four points up but are on a one track race to the bottom. It's pretty sad that there isn't more competition for that second wild card but I guess no one wants to play Vegas. If I were Minnesota, I'd be happy to make the first wild card, if the Jets and Hellebuyck continue to struggle in the playoffs. Then again, Minnesota is so dismal in the postseason, they're probably the only team the Jets CAN beat in the playoffs 😂 Outside Colorado and Dallas, the Central is always such a mess. Genuinely, I don't see any Western teams even forcing 6 games in the final this year.
as a new canucks fan, I really wish I had their phone number to give you, Shannon. I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop and a trade to come in. I really wish they'd do something and get it over with. The longer Allvin waits the less time they'll have to salvage their season. Even more minor moves might help disrupt the shitty stagnant vibes. I always heard growing up that doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results is the definition of insanity... from my armchair, I just want them to Try Something Different.
Before montgomery hire blues were 23 in goals 5 on 5 after montgomery 5th goals against they were 27th now there 3rd after montgomery, and Holloway has more points than since November then most of the great players playing look at those stats there staggering it's crazy so as a huge blues fan I'm hoping they see a move on the power rankings Since I've been told it's how the team is playing at that time
Calgary Flames will probably find a way to get in but get swept in the first round. St. Louis Blues if they can get in looks to be the best at pulling off an upset and make a run.
I keep on waiting for the Canucks to wake up. Not sure they will now. The Flames cannot score, if they had even a decent offense they would have a huge lead in the Wildcard. This will be their eventual downfall in my opinion.
THG you gotta stop giving me hope for the Ducks making a run lol. Do I want Verbeek to go nuts? Not at this moment I don’t think it’s worth it as we’ve got some big resignings that are gonna happen and if there a cap increase it’s gonna be even more headroom to be inticing but it seems like no one wants to play for Anaheim sometimes
Ron Francis is a tale of two GMs. His drafting and finding underutilized talent on the market is impeccable. His ability to find high end talent in the off season and goaltending is completely garbage (he 100% walked backwards into getting Joey Daccord). Sadly his skills in the former is not enough to cover the latter, he’s 100% getting fired this offseason.
I doubt Flames, Canucks or Blues make it to 98 points. All those other teams below them have zero chance of getting any closer. Blues will get the last spot
It's been explained to me that Grubauer is a fan favorite and that Kraken fans would prefer to see Grubauer in net instead of the team winning. And I am 100% serious
To me the race for the last playoff spot is between Calgary, Vancouver and St.Louis. If I had to pick one I would still say it will most likely be Calgary given that they have the most points, fewest played games and the most stability of all three teams. I'm expecting that Conroy will probably look to add a scoring winger sometime next month if they stay in and around where they are in the race. Think of them maybe trading for Tyler Toffoli from the Sharks or Brock Nelson from the Islanders given that you can't really sell with Huberdeau's and Kadri's caphits preventing a rebuild
If Canucks can trade miller and get a decent D man with a shot and some mobility and size (a lot to ask I know) , the team may gel better and get their forwards going. Miller seems like he wants to leave now. Let him.

As you pointed out, we look broken right now, especially after those disappointing losses to Seattle. It’s frustrating without a doubt.
1) Does Canucks trade Petey? 2) no? not Canucks then! Dubois trade... In that case start Grubauer every game, he'll get you the No. 1 pick

Dude, those Habs are killing it. Already playing Playoff Hockey. Against my Stars you all were STIFLING...
He’s only on pace for 60-65 points. Still a fall from grace from when he was putting up 115 points and 2nd in the art Ross race
As an Oiler, I'd love to see Flames get in for another Battle of Alberta!
PS, Oil are 19-4-1 in their last 24 games. Lets see where they are in the power rankings tomorrow.
PPS: You're assuming that the Oilers will be playing the Flames in the playoffs? 😊
