  • Seen all the Tiny House on Wheels shows and RUclips videos? Thinking about a tiny home lifestyle? Or are you even thinking about trying an AirBnB in a tiny home?
The Tiny Homes Show in Ancaster Fairgrounds feature 20 models as well as other vendors that can help you navigate whether this is right for you or not.
I spent a day at this fair checking out most of of the models and found it interesting and fun. I love all the creative ways these companies have come up with for layout and storage space. Minimalist lifestyle is definitely a must. Although I may be okay with a week's (maybe four days?) vacation, I don't know about long term. I even find a 400sq. ft. place squishy. Maybe a foundation build is better suited for me, not wheels. Layouts don't have to necessarily be long and narrow with a foundation build. Long and narrow seems restrictive, even for little me. Going down a narrow staircase is a bit scary. That's my experience checking out these places. Of course, the bigger the build, the more expensive they are, but wow!!!! Some of these custom builds are awesome. The Purple Manor stands out in my mind.
Some of these builds are models, others are for sale, while others are being delivered to their customers after the show.
I wish more cities are open to allowing tiny homes in their communities. Not all cities are okay with it. So plan carefully and check out your municipality first.
Finally, thank you to AShamaluevMusic for providing background music.
Also, please check out part two.

Nice quick videoing with all the other people around and not spending six minutes explaining a toilet or cupboard space. That purple castle looked like it had a catwalk inside, and it wasn't over-done with purple.

Thanks for posting this. I discovered the Tiny Homes Show had happened on the Tuesday afterward. Grrr! So it's good to see what was there. Lofts have been outlawed here in Ontario, so some of these designs couldn't be lived in here. I don't have a problem with small spaces, luckily. I've lived in a 600-sq. ft. house for 30 years, but I would want a design with less kitchen than most of these have and more living room.

Tiny homes are okay in Hamilton as long as they meet building code. They have to be a minimum of 188 square feet and need to be connected to municipal services like water and electricity.
Bigger cities may still not allow them. Toronto do allow laneway suites. However, I don’t think it’s the same. It’s pretty much has to be in close proximity to a main house.
Talking to some reps at the show, one of the companies are in talks with the councillors of Kitchener/Waterloo. It’s more a consultation so that the city can make a decision on tiny homes. Another rep says that you can try taking a tiny home to a trailer park like in Cambridge.
I know of a person who bought a place I consider a tiny home in Holstein, Ontario. He has to renovate for sure but it’s not on wheels. It’s not long and narrow like what you see for all of THOW. More like a regular house but much much smaller. He was building it for a few years during Covid. Then we lost touch. I’m sure he completed it. This said, he is so far from the city. It’s like 2 hours from Hamilton.
It’s doable. It’s just a matter of knowing where to go.

      Lofts are outlawed?

      Hi,
I don’t know too much about tiny home builds except from what I see in these videos as well as speaking directly with the reps at the Tiny Home Show.
[Edit] Please watch RUclipsr Casa Duro. She has a tiny home and lives in Ontario. I don’t remember if she mentions her location. You may find her videos more informative. She does mention that the ceiling height for a bedroom should be 6ft.
Most definitely, for anyone else reading these comments, I encourage all those who are serious about a tiny home build to check out what is acceptable where they live. This applies to anyone in in North America.
      Thanks for your inquiry/comment.

@@Seiaeka Technically, no, that's an overstatement. Tiny homes have been brought under the Ontario Building Code, which requires a ceiling height of at least 2100 mm or 6' 10 2/3" in a sleeping area. So you can build a loft, but you can't sleep in it. You'd also have to persuade a building inspector that no one is going to sleep in it.

Me, too. Until I saw something on Facebook about it. I don’t know how long they have been running this event. I decided to go this year. Definitely worth going to, even just to check it out and get a feel for how it’s like to go inside.

You can glamorize tiny homes all you want but it's still sad that people now a days can't afford a real home or to live in an apartment or can't afford their mortgages. There's a reason behind homes not being affordable for people.

    • @iFoxyGN
      @iFoxyGN  9 месяцев назад +1

Yes, affordable housing is crazy now.
There are many factors that can contribute to the current state like supply and demand and inflation.
Also, as stated in the description, people have to be aware that tiny homes are not accepted in every city, so they have to check bylaws even before making a decision to buy one. I’m pretty sure this applies to many places all across North America.
Just so you know, I went to the Tiny Homes Show for the first time this year. I didn’t know it existed until I saw something about it on Facebook.
I was curious and wanted to see.
Yes, I do watch RUclips and Facebook videos on tiny homes, but in general, I’ve always been into home design since I was young. I watched plenty of HGTV shows and home renovations like Mike Holmes.
So the fact that I featured two tiny homes videos on my channel doesn’t exactly mean I am glamourizing it. It just happened to be a public event. It would just be hard to feature other homes unless I have permission from homeowners.
Plus, if it were the case I am promoting tiny homes only, this channel would be filled with videos of me living that lifestyle or showcasing other people’s tiny homes.
My channel is really about places and events I’ve been to.

Some people choose a tiny home because they are minimalists and don't want to leave a huge important in this earth. They chose tiny to save money and do important things such as travel and spend less time working for things.

I've rented apartments my whole adult life. Most of them were older and pretty run down, but even places like that are becoming a luxury, especially in Vancouver (where I live at the moment). I think getting used to much smaller spaces is going to be the norm for most people.

Why would someone filmed somebody opening ovens and fridges? Couldn't c the layouts at all.

    • @iFoxyGN
      @iFoxyGN  9 месяцев назад

      Fair point.
This said, not all tiny homes on wheels would have an oven. Some would even opt for a camper stove instead to save space or have more storage space. Therefore, I was curious as to how small is too small like, say, for a turkey on Thanksgiving? It matters to those who like to cook and bake. At least they can see how smaller stoves might be good enough. Judging how the day went, I wasn’t the only one opening cupboards, closets and appliances.
This is a public event and I am not a professional videographer. I went to check it out. There were twenty vendors with their models on display. Although I tried my best to not have people in my video, it’s inevitable that people would be in it. I just tried not to have them as the main focus. Thus, it’s not always possible to get the full view of each tiny home.
I did include the names of these companies for each segment and in the description should you decide to look them up. They would have (should have) layouts of tiny homes.
