This is Arnold's true personality here. He's very loyal to his family and close friends. He did have an affair whilst married, but he handled that like a man, and recognizes his son, as a "real" son. Be a man is not being perfect, but trying to be guided by knowing right and wrong and having integrity. Arnold's got integrity by the buttload!

No one ever believes me, which I'm used to with this story by now, but my father and I had breakfast with Arnold S. in Honolulu a long time ago. My father, when we used to travel, would force our family to get up really early to see the sights when the world is still quiet and empty. We went out for pastries and, at 6AM, we were standing at the door of a bakery with Arnold. He gets up early but he was trying to avoid people, crowds, media etc. My Dad doesn't recognize celebs but I asked him to help me get an autograph. I completely forgot, in my nervousness, that my father was born in Austria too. My Dad is such a sweet man, he simply explained to Arnold that I was shy and asked Arnold for an act of kindness in the form of an autograph. Arnold immediately identified my father's accent and hugged him. He and Arnold hit it off...it was exactly like two homesick guys with a bond. We hung out with Arnold for around an hour. We left the bakery and walked with him around a small outside mall until he/his security got hit with a crowd. The funny thing is the main Honolulu newspaper had a headline, "Arnold is in Town." My father and I were both in the newspaper picture with him as "unidentified family members." He was so nice to us and classy that I always root for him. This is a great friendship to see with Franco. We should all be so lucky!

When I first found out that Franco past I went to tell my wife. She had no clue who I was talking about. I wanted to tell someone and share my sadness of such horrible news, but I realized no one I know , knows Franco. He was not the super star that Arnold is and we won't hear about his passing on the news. And to me it is so sad. I feel like going outside and shouting about what the world has lost. Such a personal hero. Rest in Peace dear Franco. I for one, will never forget you.
You just shared here with the rest of us... I felt somewhat the same way, my wife heard me speak of him before, but can't completely understand. He was my hero growing up, never met him or saw him, but feel a loss nevertheless...

You 2 are what got me going when I was 16 with exercise program booklets I ordered out of a magazine. Franco was awesome as you were and are still a inspiration. I am 63 now and continue to train 6 days a week. Workouts are nothing like before but consider myself lucky to still be alive. Thank you!

I've seen those documentaries of course but I mean a look back at their friendships and some cool stories. them sitting down chatting, visiting their old stomping grounds etc. they're really funny together and its nuts seeing these guys still smashing out the reps! Those leg raises, they are still forged in iron :)

Those two were my bodybuilding Idols growing up in the 70s... reading "Muscle and Fitness" magazine... I remember one particular article that Franco wrote after Arnold challenged him on end of bar row exercises... Arnold made a wisecrack and got Franco pissed off to where he did three times as many reps with the same weight that Arnold was using !!!... I remember when he said it made his "Sardinian blood boil".... needless to say it was very motivational and always psyched me up for a great workout rest in peace Franco Columbu ..you are great !!!

He was not the super star that Arnold is and we won't hear about his passing on the news. And to me it is so sad. I feel like going outside and shouting about what the world has lost. Such a personal hero. Rest in Peace dear Franco. I for one, will never forget you.
You just shared here with the rest of us... I felt somewhat the same way, my wife heard me speak of him before, but can't completely understand. He was my hero growing up, never met him or saw him, but feel a loss nevertheless...

You 2 are what got me going when I was 16 with exercise program booklets I ordered out of a magazine. Franco was awesome as you were and are still a inspiration. I am 63 now and continue to train 6 days a week. Workouts are nothing like before but consider myself lucky to still be alive. Thank you!

I had to come rewatch this today that Franco has passed. A reminder that a real and true friendship can last a whole lifetime if the respect, appreciation and support is mutually great. Rest In Peace legend.

Every clip I see you in, you maintain such honesty and fluid happiness and contentment...even in the political arena. Your bodybuilding career is a beautiful story, your acting and movie-making career was meteoric (I still enjoy a handful of your movies that I watch on repeat all week), your governmental responsibilities were met with a wonderful action and enacted wonderful changes based on your own morals and values - no matter what your ‘party’ or ‘group’ was saying. nieze Well they're both from rual Europe; Franco is from Sardinia, which is a quaint Italian Island that had no electricity back then, just battery-powered television etc; and Arnold of course is from a village in Austria, so they have the same basic background and inspiration to grow past it.

Since one doesn't exist you can start with pumping Iron & The Comeback, move onto the extra's of the movies he's in & some political speeches he made & that's it without the commentary as far as his career goes.
I've seen those documentaries of course but I mean a look back at their friendships and some cool stories. them sitting down chatting, visiting their old stomping grounds etc. they're really funny together and its nuts seeing these guys still smashing out the reps! Those leg raises, they are still forged in iron :)

This is Arnold's best movie ever!
Those two were my bodybuilding Idols growing up in the 70s... reading "Muscle and Fitness" magazine... I remember one particular article that Franco wrote after Arnold challenged him on end of bar row exercises... Arnold made a wisecrack and got Franco pissed off to where he did three times as many reps with the same weight that Arnold was using !!!... I remember when he said it made his "Sardinian blood boil".... needless to say it was very motivational and always psyched me up for a great workout rest in peace Franco Columbu ..you are great !!!
