A few suggestions for the part two besides the ones already mentioned: gyutan (needs something above S-tier!), hiyashi chuka, basashi, kushikatsu, anago and motsunabe. Try eating natto like this:
    - Prepare natto as usual
    - Prepare canned fish/cook bacon &/ minced meat.
    - Cook udon/maitake udon - cool
    - Cut avocado, cook sliced shiitake mushrooms + enoki mushrooms +/shimeji mushrooms
[- Add cooked edamame + pitted olives]
    - Wash mini tomatoes
    - Prepare a white sauce
    [- Cut tofu into cubes]
    - Combine udon/maitake udon with other ingredients [add kimchi] & enjoy.

I think we have different tastes on a lot of things. Chestnuts, highball, etc yes! Conbini bento you are right, but homemade bento.... much higher tier.
I agree with okonomiyaki! I also really like a good bowl of ramen but I wouldn't have it everyday since I don't think that'd be healthy.
So far I think mochi is just overrated. Yeah... it's chewy & very one note? Needs something else for me. There's better traditional sweets. One of my fav japanese-only styles is sesame ice cream. The ones I've tried in the US all have coconut in them and it ruins the smoky sweet flavor.

  • @mikekun155

It's a fair list. You guys are so respectful, how can anyone hate on the choices? For me as a foreigner, we don't have a lot of good ramen, udon, skewers, sushi and even if we did, it would cost us an arm and a leg. Toriki for me was amazing since the quality isn't as bad and for 2, would only pay 5000 yen. Had premium ones as a set for 3500 for 2. Where as if I went to an American one, it would cost 150$ (21,900 Y) since they are scarce. I stumbled across the best sushi of my life in a random small sushi conveyor belt in Shinjuku and spent 2900 yen (19$) but had sushi in the States and pay 70$ (10,000 Y) for myself. So all the noodles skewers sushi for me become S tier/A tier xD

@@mikekun155 a large portion of the 駅弁 that are offered in the shinkansen terminals/gates I agree, are kinda MEH. But depending on the station and area, there are specialty shops and there is a REASON why they're so popular... However, you need to know what to look for which is the hard thing especially for people who don't know the regional shops/areas etc... I feel like a lot of the foreigners give a bad rep to 駅弁 as they just take のぞみ on the Kansai-Tohoku line and are only presented with mass-appeal bento's (even though like I said there are better ones even behind the gates if you know what to look for).... The culture exists for a reason man/girl!!I am no otaku to ekiben but I swear ever since I've taken time to research my departing station or transfer station to see what is available, I have been VERY impressed. (This is also coming from a $15 budget xD)

feel the same way about 豚骨ラーメン。I have friends visit and that's ALL they want to get back to back to back, and just ramen in general. Feel like after living in Japan it doesn't become bad but all those cravings went away... Same with like all the noodle dishes haha
Also for 駅弁、It really depends on the area... A lot of the reason why they're popular is regional ingredients or popular shops. What happens with most people being turned off from them is yes, the obvious marketing and dishes that are available to people who just quickly glance are fried, not as healthy etc... But the premiere ones are usually wrapped and stocked within their own respective area which REQUIRES you to seek them out. it's a blessing and a curse (you always can find them, harder to find). But some companies take pride in their dishes being colder like you said, same with common commercial ones that come in the めんち or そぼろ variety... Cold isn't always bad (I also love cold pizza so I might be weird :p). Either way, 駅弁 i totally get isn't a premiere meal either way, but I also think there's an 駅弁 for everyone >:)

He got it for me and ooooo how does it taste even better when cooked in the tamagoyaki pan? Same method, just more awkward to roll in a eound pan.
Last time i cooked it, i tried it with seasoned kombu and the flavour was so good!

It was interestingto watch and hear a little of your opinions (some of which I agreed with), but my biggest issue was with how broad the categories were! I think that's why you had too many at the top, you need to split up things like ramen and green tea.
Made me think about how I would rank certain things, though.
For example, I'm definitely S or A for soba, most ramen types are A or B, but a lot of udon has been C tier for me (the sides, sauce/broth, or toppings can save it, but the noodles themselves are low)
