@azjoe_6310 I've thought about the notion that it's not as safe now as it used to be as it sure seems more dangerous. Statistically speaking it's actually safer if you look at crime/homacide percentages compared to 10, 20 or 30 years ago. I'm now convinced that with current instantaneous 2 minute news clips from everywhere it's just precieved to be more dangerous. I live in Colorado and got this news snippet, 20 years ago I likely wouldn't have known this crime ever took place. According to statistics these crimes were happening slightly more often 20 years ago however we only really knew about local crimes or major national crimes so we precieved it to be safer.

If I had let her in, I wouldn't be here today typing this..
Truck stops are “THE”most dangerous place for a truck driver outside of the vehicle. I made the mistake of staying at the TA in downtown nashville years ago. I almost was robbed. Definitely learned a valuable lesson that night. From that moment on, I started to change my approach to driving. Don’t sleep in and around major cities, if at all possible. Memphis, Detroit, Chicago truck stops are even worse. If I had to make a delivery, I would stay 20-30 miles away and just wake up early. Truck drivers are like food for criminals. Stay strapped and safe out there! God bless that poor man! I hope they catch the dirt bag the took the life of a man who was just trying to provide for his family. It’s a damn shame😢
I'm a trucker and we lost our brother and condolences to his family and friends. Drivers please let's all be safe and protected out here. #TruckerLife #TruckerLove
He was last seen buying food at 7:20 p.m. What time was he supposed to check in, but didn't? What time was his body discovered? Obviously, he was shot by someone who was also at the travel center.
"Obviously, he was shot by someone who was also at the travel center." Ya think? Pretty hard to shoot someone if you're not in the same place they are...
So tragic! My heart goes out to the trucker's loved ones. Back when my son was driving it was like this. He was OTR and only had a problem one time and it got dealt with.
Wellllll - truckers being one big happy family who looks out for each other isnt entirely true. Just tune in on the CB at a truck stop to hear all the cat fighting, shit talking & racial bullshit every night.
That's crazy. I wonder if this was on truck stop property, or maybe he parked down the street in an unlit area? A lot of times, you can't find room at the truck stop, so you have to move further down the road in a sketchy area just to take your break. I never got much sleep like that. I hope there is some surveillance camera footage. Very sad.
Very sad. He was the same age as me. I haven’t had any bad experiences at truck stops as most of them have security. I was told to avoid the Loves in Memphis Tennessee if I can help it
Such a shame, no matter what you do or where you go there are people waiting to prey on others. May God expose the lawless person who thought they had the right to take this man's life.😢

Always watch your surroundings, even when getting into the truck... Don't allow anyone to run up on you... Always keep your hand on your piece, especially when walking to and from your truck...
If truckers can’t move the product down the road safely and without fear of being shot what does it mean? I will tell you… they will eventually find a different line of work. They want to go home safely and alive just like everyone else. If we have a shortage of trucks we will then have a shortage of goods for the consumers in the stores. We all need to be courteous to truckers as they are always being scoped by the local cops & sheriffs, state troopers, the DOT and the scale houses while having deadline pressures. They have alot of time while driving down the road to think about their families and the pressures of not being able to be there for them in a lot of situations. It is a tough job as is without having to worry about gun violence out on the road. Thank a trucker today and buy them lunch or at least a cup of coffee if you have an opportunity.
Im sure it was one of these young kids that thought he got his feelings but hurt. You say anything wrong to these punks today and they start shooting. Its ridiculous.
They should have interviewed the foreign drivers to ask about brotherhood in trucking. They make up half the drivers on the road....oh yeah, I just realized, they couldn't interview them because they speak no English nor give a crap about brothers in trucking.
Cell data 100% will show who walked up to his truck and shot him, the police won't use that though. Guaranteed the murderer won't be caught, Nashville DA is a pos.
As a former, now retired trucker, (1980-2006) the roadlife has always been dangerous. I came across so many crazy people, been robbed, had my chains stolen off a load by another trucker while I was taking a restroom break. Detained by FBI with a shotgun to my head because they thought I was drug running, Crossed paths with two different serial killers, and last but not least had two different drunks plow into my rig. Even more crap I can barely remember.
This industry seems to attract a lot of emotionally unstable misfits, psychopaths and weirdos. I wonder how many among us are active serial killers. Goble, Davis, Ford, Rhoades, Nellsch, Jesperson, et al are the trucker serial killers we know about. There’s no telling how many more are out here that we don’t know about.
Wow Mike. Your story makes for a hell of a book. We have enough to worry about. I just hate to hear a news story like this. The truck stop is my safe space.
Well, first of all, that is a story that should be written, seriously, in book form, and just for what ive read i can tell you it's gonna be a hit. And what about something that you can't explain, paranormal, call it what you will? Not joking, iam asking you because theres a lot of weird s*** out there that defies explanation as well
My company had a policy of not stopping in Nashville because of the crime and violence against drivers. Nashville was considered a pass through city due to the problems there.
Not as easy as you would think, first you have to know the local laws of every state and city (hello New York) that you are sent to and only a small % of drivers have control of where they go.
@bailey9r carry an SBR It ain't a pistol You gotta remember When you need defense seconds count. And the police Are minutes away, if they even have the personnel to respond. Criminals prefer their victims unarmed Be safe out there
I thank all you truck drivers. People don't realize that almost everything in your house has been on a truck! God bless and protect every single one of you.
I could write a book about my years on the road as a trucker. Whenever I had valuables, or even frozen turkeys, on board, I was told to back the truck against a wall so they can't open the back door. I heard from drivers that thieves peeled the top off a trailer like a sardine can to get inside. I drove back in the day without computers, a bingo card and two log books - if I had an expensive load like cigarets i was suppose to call in every two hours. Going through cities like NYC, thugs used to spray dirt on the windshield if you sat in traffic, then demanded money to wipe it off. Many cops were assholes, especially the ones that "owned" a strip of the interstate, and the same goes for tow-truck companies - highway pirates, they were. Having been one of the very few female drivers going solo cross-country, it was even harder. I got harassed many times by lot attendants about whether or not I was a "lot lizard". Repair shops that claim they fixed it but didn't - and you end up with air breaks locking up on a sheet of ice. The people at pick-up and then at drop-off were a-holes most of the time and gave me a lot of crap. But I think there are more women drivers now, I hope they realize how hard it was for us who entered this "men-only" profession....and that "we look out for one another" is BS. I have plenty of stories about road-range incidents "owner vs union" and other assorted fun. Myself I had 10 years of constant hazing by other drivers. But the dangers have always been there. Bless this man and his family, and I hope they get the killer and put him in the general population - he won't last long. Better yet - we need a death penalty. Be safe out there, people.....
@exceptionallife4768 she may have tried to say if you're at the stop at a building to back up At the wall, but at the trucks stops or every stop you have to keep those king pin locks on your doors
As a truck driver myself the whole “we try to look out for each other” is complete bs. Everyone out here is in it for themselves and a lot of drivers are the sort of people that have very short tempers and don’t function well with others. I keep to myself out here because of some of the types in this industry. I’m 99% sure it was another truck driver that did this.
That is correct they were looking for a certain answer at the fake news and they got it and then published it as usual. The brotherhood was not ruined by the drivers it was ruined by the industry and the American trucking Association screwing drivers more and more and moreand turning the industry into a shit hole

Truckers should be allowed to carry firearms to defend themselves. They're out there pretty much defenseless, by themselves, in some pretty bad places. Without these guys non of us would have the things we need. Congress has security and they are just sitting on their a$$es. Truckers should have security too.
A lot of truckers wouldn't even do the job without a concealed weapon even if it's prohibited by the owners of the company or illegal in some states they cross because they know the real dangers out there, they just don't advertise that they are armed you know it's secret except to like a spouse or other close family members but then there are some OTR drivers who are dangerous and they shouldn't have weapons of any kind because they are criminal minded but they also carry illegal weapons too; obviously for nefarious reasons. People need to learn to run they're loads, not socialize to much and go home whenever they can.
I told my fuel department that I wasn’t ever going back to that Love’s years ago. I skip all truck stops in Nashville, Birmingham Alabama, South Dallas Texas, Atlanta Georgia, and Laredo Texas. We now have third world crime, by third rate humans who know our justice system is corrupt and broken. Particularly the FBI, which should be investigating these crimes because it has to do with interstate commerce. But we all should know by now, that this is obviously not going to happen. I would even suggest they want this chaos to continue. Through their inaction and ill focused behavior with investigations that are more political in nature. They obviously don’t care
My ex had to tie his doors together when there was a trailer pickup/ drop-off near the border in CA. All night there were people trying to get into the cab. He couldn't leave the yard because the gaurd locked the gates when he went off duty, leaving him inside the locked gate. Very scary night.
@@1Way. Yes, I agree. ( scary night ) Thing is, it is almost like a disease. These types of incidents are spreading across the country and also in small towns. Though border towns have always been sketchy, the kind of crime infestation that was and is still occurring in border towns. Has been spreading throughout the United States. Like I mentioned before, third world crime has come to the United States through either the migrant crisis, or third rate citizens committing these crimes. And the fact that our justice system is broken and adopting Marxist ideology through social justice means, they are not only allowing criminals to commit these crimes, they are selectively prosecuting whoever they feel are stopping them from destroying the very institutions, communities, and social structures that our country was founded upon. Be safe and careful out there! Because those people doing this damage, don’t care about your ethnicity, sex, religion, or affiliation. The fact that you are a citizen, puts a target on your back.
My only thing is what do you do if you have a load to a secured facility where they will inspect your truck? I’ve delivered to military bases and nuclear laboratories and they definitely search every inch of your vehicle
Of course they’re going to check on the driver. When there’s a load that needs to be at a certain place at a certain time and The driver doesn’t show up all companies are going to find out where they’re at.
Truck drivers do NOT look out for each other. They will get into fistfights and worse over the fuel que at those pumps, over a parking space to sleep.. Truck drivers are constantly under stress. The pay is abysmal, they are under constant pressure for time, both by regulation and screaming dispatchers and dock personnel. The police are definitely out to ruin them, dumb laws and unreasonable situations are the norm. Lot lizards bothering drivers, other drivers sabotaging each other. A common thing is pulling the 5th wheel release on sleeping or away from their truck drivers. Watch near a truck stop. You won't got 2 weeks without one truck dropping a trailer while leaving because of sabotage. Yes, still the drivers fault because they should pretrip each time they move. Trucking is now an utterly miserable and honestly not worth it job 99% of the time. I because a Sourdough for 3 years and then retired. Those who know know what that means. Get a good safety record. That's just as much luck as skill today. Then go do that job few can, get your money and get out. One of the happiest days in my life was letting my medical expire and kicking my CDL back down to a regular Class C. Only getting married and when my kids were born healthy made me happier. There's nothing fun or good about commercial driving in America anymore. It's a horrible job and anyone being honest who actually did it recently will tell you no different.
I tell people now I've seen almost all states was nice when I first started now with all this craziness I'm just here to make a check and go home with family.
in my state I see many truck drivers stopping mostly just on the ramps of a highway late at night. I get off at 3 am so I see this a lot. is this to avoid sabotage or being attacked? is it just simply more common at truck stops because no one cares and theres nothing in place to protect them? our highways here have cameras at almost every exit
There has to be camera images/footages on the snitch cameras that companies place in trucks as well as the personal dash cams of yruck drivers.. Too, surveillance cameras at Loves and near by businesses had to record something.
"Lost a family member" If any trucking company tells you they treat you like family, run away! These people have no idea what they're talking about. And there is no brotherhood in trucking any more. Those drivers are full of crap.
Nope, dispatchers are either in their heated or air conditioned office or at home. The bosses hide behind a human resources person or department. They NEVER see drivers.
its real fun when those companies have idle rules too. got to cut down on that idle time even it its "only" 80 degrees F outside.... they forget about inside temps.@@muffs55mercury61

Yeah, right there with the ones around the Atlanta loop and South side of Chicago. I guarantee you the Truck stop can be safer than some of the less traveled Industrial areas surrounding the major cities.
@@rpruneau68 It's been 20 years since I delivered or picked up in Chicago. Back then it was the 76 (later became a TA) in Bolingbrook (I-55, exit 267) or if heading east it would be in Lake Station, IN. Never had any problems there. On the other hand we were told to NEVER stop at any truck stop in Gary, IN, day or night.
The TA on Exit 6 (Burr ST), in Gary, IN was my go to stop when traveling I-80 or I-65 since many wouldn't stop there given the geographical climate. Bolingbrook T/S was also a regular go to while traveling north on I-55 and was much more milder climate just charged for parking and was a mom & pops station so fuel fill-up was required to park cost free.@@muffs55mercury61

I used to stop here regularly years ago until it got to the point that I was being accosted by crack heads begging for money every time i stopped. Told the staff and they didn't seem to care. I just avoid the place altogether now.
I worked for a company out of Somerset Ky in the 90s as a otr driver. The company safety man told us it was against company policy to have a firearm in your tractor. He then said “ I will tell you this, if I was out there sleeping in a truck all over the country I would have a gun with me “
Damn. This is the new world we live in. Trucking has been in my family for over a 100 years combined with my Dad(RIP) Uncle (RIP) and one of my brothers. I just chose not to follow our Dad and Uncle's foot steps. Its one of the most underpaid careers out there in my opinion and full of cut throats as well. RIP driver🙏
This is not a trucking issue. This is a society issue everyone out there for themselves. While it is a sad incident. This stuff happens daily in every work/play environment. We must change as society if we want to make a difference.
Truckers should be allowed to carry a firearm to defend themselves. Our country and roads are too dangerous nowadays. Create an exemption for truckers or law that will protect drivers.
My condolences to the family and friends of the driver who lost his life. I am pro-guns as a deterrent to a totalitarian government. As for gun use for personal safety. It seems to rely on who gets the drop on who. I’ve lived in Major Cities, drove trucks through areas best avoided. Yet, despite 14 years of driving truck all over the United States, no one has ever attempted to rob me. Some might say, I was lucky. 14 years lucky is a lot of luck. I have another suggestion. 1. My attitude is a no nonsense alert attitude with my head on a swivel. I’m not rude or impolite nor am I friendly. 2. I spent as little time in truck convenience stores and restaurants as possible. I would do my business and go back to my truck. 3. Basic security goes a long way. If someone wants to get into a trailer, they will. However, most thieves are lazy looking for easy pickings. It is much easier to get into a trailer with only a plastic seal than one with a big steel lock. Same goes with the cab. I would keep the curtain to the sleeper berth closed. When parked, all of the cab windows were covered. How many thieves want to try to break into a blacked out truck? Is there someone or something in there? Might there be a shotgun waiting to blow their heads off. Too much risk when there are so many to choose from. 4. I listened to my gut/intuition. I have pulled into many places to take a break only to pull right back out of them because my intuition was sending up red flags. I’ve changed my routing on that same basis many times. The safety of my truck and freight is my responsibility and nobody else’s. That’s how I did it. I have no stake in the game since I am retired.
its more dangerous than people hear about and its a skill , a survivsl skill u must learn as a trucker or even a 6th sense to recognize dangerous places/people , best advice to a new trucker is this aint no road trip, work the loads and try not to talk to people unless u have to and try like hell to look like u know what your doing
As a trucker that is the very reason we should be able to carry a firearm with us . Dammit people get your head out your ass and look around we’re not safe anymore none of us .
We should all get together and try to get firearm exemption to carry in every state for truckers! I carry my firearm, I don’t believe I lost my rights to carry because I have a CDL!
I am with you on this, and if a state doesn't want to comply, no truck goes to that state to do delivery, we need to come together as a truck driver to get this law pass.
I have a friend who is a retired police officer. They always carried more than one firearm than what was required. They preferred to be tried by 12 members of a jury than carried by 6 pallbearers.
So heartbreaking. Stay strapped out there folks, many of us live in a bubble of a false sense of security, while there are a few out there looking to take advantage in the worst ways possible.
This is a poorly written news segment. Was he killed at the truck stop? Was he killed on a road nearby? Was he killed 100 miles down the road? You've got 10 years on me, and I can conquer with your statement. I have never seen a brotherhood of drivers since I started in 2006. Hell, a cb is obsolete now. Most drivers won't even stop to help put out a car that's on fire with people inside. They just drive by real slow and stare. Almost all of the truckers nowadays are 100% out for themselves.
What stinks is trucks drivers are still not allowed to be armed with firearms. When I was a kid and my mother used to run her own hotshot (70s). That woman was definitely not someone to mess with. She used to keep a colt python on the dash when on the road. Baddest mom I was so proud to have. R.I.P Mom. R.I.P driver & God bless all fellow truck drivers on the road!
I drove for 2 OTR companies, both of which required drivers to serve Canada. You might be able to enter Canada with a handgun in your truck, but I would think it would cause a huge time delay because all these trips are unplanned. You get dispatched in Detroit or upstate NY & an hour & a half later you are at the border entering. There's no place to store the weapon in the USA before entering because we often enter in 1 city & exit at another. Drivers who only operate in the US probably are free to carry without concern.
There is no federal law or DOT regulation prohibiting firearms in CMVs. State law applies to possession of firearms in CMVs, just as any other motor vehicles. Whether you can lawfully carry in a cmv depends on the states where you run. If you’re on a southeast regional (aka Republican states), you can freely carry in a cmv. If, however, you run in the northeast (aka Democrat-run sh*tholes), you will have a problem with a gun in the truck.
Yeah no, that's insane. Get them out on the road and teach them what will matter, and how to protect their life. The only thing they teach in those classrooms is policy and corporate heirarchy.

I want to give a huge Thank You to all the truckers out there for the hard work that YOU do because all of you deserve so much more because without YOU all this country or any other couldn't function at all. That’s one thing I like about being a trucker. We definitely look out for each other when we are out on the road. Nothing is perfect but I know most of us try very hard.
Nashville, Memphis, Atlanta, Birmingham, and pretty much any other city are unsafe to take a break in. If I have the option I just go to a company yard or i stop away from those areas.
We all know it was probably some young scholar trying to get his life together, and his mama will tell you he's a good boy who never did no wrong to nobody.
These Mega carriers don’t want you armed to protect yourself, yet you have cargo varying in worth sometimes. I always said screw your rules. Prayers going up to the family. I hope you all start respecting truckers a tad bit more. Simply by being a bit more considerate on the road is more than enough.
Read most of the comments and decided to add my two cents. I started driving in '72 and ended in '83 after l went back to school for a career change. Got caught up in the '73 truckers shutdown. Not too many problems for me there. Just had to avoid the truck stops as most would let you in but not let you out. Oh, and three attempted highjackings. Mr. Ruger contributed a lot to stopping those. Came through Mobile, Alabama one night after a 15 year old kid threw an 80+lb chunk of cement through a trucker's winshield and killed him. Cops arrested the kid few days later later when he started bragging about what he had done. Started carrying a hand held spotlight to sweep the overpasses. Several weeks later, just east of Monroe, Louisiana, l came up to an overpass and started sweeping it. Another truck coming up behind me slowed down to my speed and stayed with me. By the time l got to Jackson, Mississippi, there were 15 trucks behind me. I could only run 52 mph but none of those guys passed me until I turned off on I-55 southbound. Sure was a lot of headlight flashing as they passed me. After l went back to school, l continued to drive over the road for a short time on weekends. One day one of my professors and his wife joined me as l was eating lunch and the wife asked if l had a gun in my truck. We were not allowed to have guns on campus. Told her l did. She replied that she had heard a lot of trucker carried guns and was curious if l did. We talked about it awhile and then she told me nothing more would be said about it to anyone else. When l quit driving things were changing, all the new stuff was becoming law, you had to go to driving school to get a CDL. I do not know about all the driving schools, but the local one where l lived sure did not teach much about real life driving.
I heard its hot safe as years ago being a trucker these days. People trying to get you pulled over ect.So many people coming into USA now not as safe as years ago.Dont know what kind of good or bad people you may run into. Be safe always look around and DONT pick up anyone. Scary times now!

Say it again we most definitely not safe out here.
We should all get together and try to get firearm exemption to carry in every state for truckers! I carry my firearm, I don’t believe I lost my rights to carry because I have a CDL!
I would think it would be a problem when every state has different laws.
I am with you on this, and if a state doesn't want to comply, no truck goes to that state to do delivery, we need to come together as a truck driver to get this law pass.

America is not a good place to live anymore.
It never has been for Black people
A lot of truck drivers are ruthless now, it’s not like what it used to be.
True facts thanks 👍
Lots of newbie drivers finding out it's not just driving but surviving, 40 hours classroom instruction and less driving does not make an OTR driver .
Yeah no, that's insane. Get them out on the road and teach them what will matter, and how to protect their life. The only thing they teach in those classrooms is policy and corporate heirarchy.
This idustry has no brotherhood anymore. The government hss fixed that.
There is nothing our sleazy "government" can't destroy. Shame to see America fallen so low.
My condolences to this driver family and friends.. 🙏🏾🙏🏾
I wish all truckers considered themselves brothers to one another, I’m a trucker and most truckers don’t even speak to one another. We should be all like brothers out there, but sadly we’re not. Condolences to that drivers family, real talk!
My deepest condolences for the loss of this young trucker during this most difficult time and prayers and comfort to the family. My brother was a trucker for 10yrs back in the mid 80's to the mid 90's and he drove all over the US 🇺🇸 and back then truckers did seem to be more friendly towards one another and helpful even when using the CB dispatch with one another but my brother did mention that a few truckers in certain states did get robbed but mostly when off the truck and he mentioned prostitutes used to set them up to be robbed as well. I want to give a huge Thank You to all the truckers out there for the hard work that YOU do because all of you deserve so much more because without YOU all this country or any other couldn't function at all. Be safe and stay alert to your surroundings and blessings to YOU and your families. 🙏🏾👍🏾
My heart goes out to this truck driver's family and friends.
I pray they catch the person or persons responsible. Prayers go out to his family and co workers. Was it a robbery or what? I didn't catch it, if they said it was? I need to watch again sad. They should be able to protect themselves, because, that happens in other countries a lot. You can find you tube videos about it. Scary times we're living in. Sad.
Sad. Sad. Theres been 2 or 3 black female drivers killed but no arrests. I think its someone he got into an altercation with or one of those women they call " lizards" who try to hookup with truckers. Condolences 🙏
Road Warrior, you made your last load. We'll take it from here... May God guide you where you need to go and be with your family and friends who were left behind.
The usual suspects?
I think now it's probably illegals, then a drugged out junkie or maybe its a gang initiation
Or a clear person who knows
Heartbreaking. Young man working and evil people/person does something like this. Prayers to his friends and family.
These Mega carriers don’t want you armed to protect yourself, yet you have cargo varying in worth sometimes. I always said screw your rules. Prayers going up to the family. I hope you all start respecting truckers a tad bit more. Simply by being a bit more considerate on the road is more than enough.
We would get unannounced trips to Canada. Can't carry.
What is going on with long haul truckers? There have been many unsolved crimes against truckers recently.🤔
But the same cops, legislators and Media will make SURE We are Unarmed.
"It's for our Safety."
Our truckers are the greatest. What ever happened throw the book at them. I am so sorry. Wrights trucking. 💜
I wonder if the driver tried to "stiff" the wrong lot lizard?
