I’m from Blackburn. It was one of the best towns in the north west of England. Famous for its breweries. The eighties were brilliant for us bblackburnians. A cracking night out. But I left the town in the early 90s to get closer to work. I returned in 2013 and I was horrified what I saw. It’s been destroyed. No life at all. Takeaways everywhere. All the culture has gone and replaced by another. It’s sad to say but there it is.
Blackburn was an absolutely beautiful town i haven't been there in almost 40 years. I had some cracking nights out in peppermint place. I wouldn't say the place is still in business today. My Dad worked building a shopping centre there in the early 1970s

A lot of our towns are starting to look the same with all the same shops and empty shops, its so refreshing when you see somewhere a bit different like when you went to Buxton or the video you did in Lancaster. Trees definitely improve the view as well but our planners seem to like a sterile concrete environment without Trees. Such a shame really.

Some lovely victorian buildings there, like the famous Market Hall and Town Hall, Library and others, and also an original old victorian Arcade between the old traditional Warner Street and the run down Church Street, plenty to see and plenty of idiots that hang around the central Broadway areas. And from there you could see the far side of Blackburn and there were streets of terraced houses they looked like old mill houses but in the 70s they looked like they were quite run down. The building at 8 minutes is the old Cinema, lovely old architecture till it was closed. The "old church" was a hostel for boozehounds back in the day. The police station isn't in town, that's just the local town centre one.
I wouldn't count a town of 120,000 people as a "bit of a big place". I am used to cities with several million people. To me I consider anywhere with less than 1,000,000 people as being a small backwater. But I guess it is just down to what you are used to. I am used to tall skyscrapers and large metro systems, so to me these small places feel like a dump.
