There is a Grace Jones full concert recently uploaded. At 75, she is as iconic as ever. For the last song of the show, she hula hooped for almost ten full minutes. She doesn't miss a beat of the song, at the middle of the song, she introduces the band, and then jumps back into the song, still hooping. . Oh, and wearing 6" (at least) stiletto heels.
These early Me'Shell bands were just soo damn kickin', and this is the testimony right here. Big ups to Frederico for being the solid funky core thru different personnel changes. Not sure who this guitarist is - but he lays down perfectly sublime improv when his turn to plate comes around. Credit to Me'Shell as the brilliant architect of this sophisticated brand of time vault funk. Some of those shows with Dave Dyson were unreal. Fortunate enough to see the band in Seattle in 99. Me and my date then/ wife now wont ever forget it. Still have the ticket - it was that awesome!.
Ive known Federico for a few years but didnt know about this. Just stumbled into a video with him. I'm gonna have to bug him about being with Me'Shell next time I see him.
It's great to see a band with two bass players. I've been a guitarist for years but I recently got a bass, and I still consider myself basically a novice. I often think that I could do okay in a grunge or punk band, but also I'd love to play "rhythm bass" in a band, just playing root notes at the low end so the lead bass player can go all over the fretboard without leaving the bottom too thin. I also wonder what direction the music of Rush might have taken if they had a second bass player for when Geddy plays keyboards. I know he uses bass pedals when he plays keys, but having a second bassist would add a lot more dynamic potential (as evidenced by the fact that most of their albums use overdubs so their songs are supposed to have a bassist under the keys anyway).
Do tell! Seriously, these early vids of you and rest of Meshell's band have blown my mind. I can't image the rush it must have been. They've inspired me (at 47!) to finally learn to play. Epic, historic, definitive funk.
@@sly17171 Exactly...It was odd to see us pick it back up - that kind of thing is a bit corny and we didn't do "corny" - but I think production was adamant about us playing them into commercial and Meshell acquiesced, which was the right thing to do (I think).
@@FedericoGPena Mr Pena!!..excellent work Sir, been watching you over the years (especially with M.Miller) I hope you are well in these strange times... blessings from Wash, DC
I simply love this performance! The bass guitars, the guitar solo, the keys - I'm dancing in my living room...
Is there any other female artist that has the talent and creative as Meshell. She is a legend.
