- Suzettes Beanie is an easy crochet beanie pattern worked in simple single and double crochet stitches, and available in 7 sizes from Newborn through Adult Large. I'm showing how to work the Teen/Adult Small size.
You'll need Worsted Weight Yarn - I'm using Swish in Dove Heather, an H8/5mm Crochet Hook, and Tapestry Needle, plus a soft tape measure as gauge is important.

All my years crocheting I’ve never seen the way you save a stitch for the end. Amazing. You are a great teacher. Thanks so much for this pattern. Glad I found you. ❤️
You made my day, Kathy! So glad you enjoyed this tutorial. That traveling seam used to drive me so crazy, and I know I'm not alone so I try to share whenever I can ☺️
Thank you so much. I am 75 and have never seen this technique before. Love how it looks.
So welcome! Glad you found it helpful 😊
You’re a great teacher. Thank you for explaining WHY you do certain stitches, so we understand. It’s very helpful 😊
Thank YOU for such a kind comment, and the feedback! I am so glad you found it helpful. I try my best to show every step, and explain, so all can feel confident about making it too ❤️ I remember when I started crocheting, I blindly followed videos that didn't go into detail, and I had some questions, especially in the end if it came out to big or small.
I agree. I like to know "why," LOL.
It's so neat how you joined the pretend stitch. I have never seen it done in all my years of crocheting. I will use it from now on, because it matters to me impeccable joining. It looks very professional.
Thank you for sharing with us your tip. ❤️❤️❤️
Such an incredibly kind compliment. Thank you so much!
I am so glad I came across your tutorial...A++. I am going to be using your join from now on. I try so hard to get things straight and this is effortless. Thank You!! ❤👏

I am so very happy to hear this! Glad you like it. This gray color has quickly become a favorite of mine
I have made so many beanies but this the best and cleanest looking. I make them for the homeless shelter and these have no gaps for air. I am glad I found your channel!
I'm so happy you're here, and that you like this beanie! It's one of my favorite stitch patterns.
Thank you for showing this method. That's how my mom taught when I was child and i never seen anyone else do it so i was always confused and got lost in instructions. I enjoy your channel and work😊
That is awesome! I haven't seen anyone use it either. Glad I could bring back some good memories for you. Thanks so much - happy crocheting 😊
Oooo girl I like your way of joining 👍🏾👍🏾
Happy to hear 😀
This is great! Nice and clear. Easy to follow. I will use this to donate beanies to chemo patients. Thanks!
That warms my heart to hear ❤️ Would love to know where you donate to so I can add the organization or hospital to my list.
Great video. Will be using the join/start of next round technic! Love love love ❤️
So happy to hear! It's been a game changer for me in relieving that stress of a traveling seam.
I like your technique on the beginning rounds, I’m definitely going to practice it. I’m disabled so I make many many many beanies for our local homeless shelter.
I know they definitely appreciate those, especially this time of year! Check out SweetPotato3.com too. She runs the Crochet Cancer Challenge each October. There is a new free crochet pattern each day (I know it just passed, but for next year).
I am loving this because am learning
I'm so happy to hear! The suzette stitch is a beautiful stitch pattern that looks lovely on so many other projects too! Happy crocheting 🙂
Thanks for this beautiful pattern and very clear instructions!❤
So welcome! Glad you like it 😀
I have made three of your hats in the past two days. I'm new to crochet and find your tutorial so helpful. Side note I have a tiny bottle kitten and when I heard yours I thought it was mine wanting to eat-every time I came to that part 😅
I am so glad you like this hat, and tutorial! That is exactly what I aim for, even those new to crochet, to feel confident in making my patterns, and find useful info for later.
Funny about your kitty! Sometimes when I edit, I have to pause to make sure it's not my cat meowing at the same time 😂 I enjoy leaving in these cute, real moments though.
Love this pattern..excellent tutorial..Thank you for sharing..
So happy to share. Glad you like it 😀
Super great tutorial. Thanks for sharing. I will be making this one.

This is so pretty! Thank you so much!
So glad you like it 😊
Hi am loving this.
So happy to hear ☺️
Love the stitch and so well explained, on my second beanie. Is there a video on a matching scarf?
That makes me so happy to hear 😊 I do have a written pattern in 4 sizes, currently available as part of a scarf eBook (www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/suzettes-scarf), but I don't have a video done for it yet. I will try to work on it this coming week, and will drop the link here when I have it ready. Do you have a preference on a regular one, or an infinity version?

Thank you for this tutorial...it's very easy to understand! What weight is the yarn you're using? #3 or #4?
So happy to hear! This is worsted weight #4 yarn - I used WeCrochet Swish.
Thank you for such a lovely beanie; please can you explain where I can find your tutorial. ❤
So glad you like it! I include the written pattern linked in the description box of each video. Here is this one: eyeloveknots.com/2016/05/slanted-shell-beanie-toddler-child.html
I almost forgot to watch this. Glad I set a reminder. Beautiful hat!
Thank you, Verna! The suzette stitch pattern has always been one of my favorites.
Love this...thank you!!!!!
So very welcome! Glad you like it 😊
Love the video was wondering can you do on a loom
I am not familiar with working on a loom. Looking at some beanies that have been made on one, the stitches look to mock the knit and purl stitches of knitting so I don't think so, but again, I haven't worked on a loom so can't say for certain.
Hi, beautiful hat! I just joined your channel and made this hat but it turned out way to big. My stitch count was right on and i used the same hook sizes, Im not sure what happened..I want to make another one, do you think I should stop the increase rows at 60 stitches or go down a hook size? Mine is 22 inches around. Thank you 😊
Thank you! I explain gauge in the pattern. It's really important to take for projects where the finished size is essential. I recommend starting there to judge going down one or two hook sizes. I also show how to measure the finished diameter, and explain how wide it should be to get the correct size. You could also just work with the same hook, and stop increasing when it measures correctly.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ going to do it
Happy hooking 😊
Very well explained. Lovely tutorials Pattern is beautiful and easy. Just one question. If I want bigger size. How to increase the Pattern ? Please guide me. Thank you. 😘
So glad you like it! For the adult large, you'll start with 11 DC in the ring, and increase up to 77, but leave one stitch off so it's 76 because the suzette stitch pattern needs to be a multiple of an even number. You can find written instructions here: eyeloveknots.com/2016/05/slanted-shell-beanie-toddler-child.html
@@eyeloveknotscre8tioncrochet Thank you for replying 🙏 🥰🤗
sorry to ask you again but you do 10dc in the ring, and only increase 1dc (with 11dc) will it become large? or should I increase the dc? pls. reply. I want to start your pattern. THANK YOU SO MUCH. 🥰🤗
@@armaitypooniwala4762 I don't exactly understand the second part to the question, but if you're looking to make a larger beanie, you need to start with 11 DC in the ring.
Hey, any idea why my hat's rounds ended up so small compared to yours? I'm at about 4 1/2 inches across at R7 rather than 6 3/8ths. I'm using size 4 yarn and a 5mm hook, I'm not certain what I'm doing wrong, haha!
We all crochet with different tensions, some tighter and some looser, and in projects where the finished size matters, it's important to take gauge, as discussed around 15 minutes 30 seconds. I recommend going up a hook size or two. If that doesn't work, you may want to increase the crown more.
Nice! Thanks and God bless.
So glad you enjoyed it 😊
Is that second increase of the first stitch going into the slip stitch?
I suppose it could be. I always just say it's the first stitch. It will be the stitch right underneath where the beginning chain is, and the stitch will come out just to the right of the chain.
Can I crochet this hat using size 3 yarn. If so do I need to make any adjustments such as hook size or more or less stitches.
Hi there! The crown will most likely require more rounds of increases. You can try it, and then see how close you are after checking gauge. Otherwise, I would recommend starting with my Lightweight Grace Tinley Beanie video for the crown. I use a #3 weight yarn, and the same size hook: ruclips.net/video/TEHjEzQDYsU/видео.htmlsi=IriF0gui9FR-T5pk
Once you get the crown done, you can come back to this video for the suzette stitch in the body, working evenly around. You will most likely need to add more rounds to the height of the body too so just measure before fastening off.
Thank you so much for the tips. I just finished my hat and it turned out perfect.
@annamariewoodle2424 yay! So happy to hear ☺️ Glad I could help!
❤❤❤
What is the reason to turn around?
To keep the seam straight, and add texture.
Hi This is Kat again. . . I’m continuing to make Chem Caps for the children’s hospital. I’ve been using only your patterns. Since they are for kids, do you have any suggestions (or can you make a video) for a candy corn pattern and a rainbow pattern? Thanks. Hugs.
Hi Kat! I saw this message a couple days ago, and have been doing some brainstorming.
I do have a Candy Corn beanie pattern, but it's for preemie size only. I have a couple things on my hook to finish over the next couple days, and then I'll work on updating the Candy Corn beanie for all sizes. I love this idea!
A rainbow is a really fun idea too! I think a beanie with more rounds would be better so you can get all the colors in there.
Maybe the Haylee Beanie, worked in half double crochet. The smallest size is 15 rounds so that would give you 2 rounds of each color plus one extra, ruclips.net/video/kkZMA3PaVxc/видео.html
Or the Suzette Beanie, worked in the Suzette stitch pattern of single and double crochets. The smallest size is 12 rounds so you don't have quite as much to work 2 rounds each, but pretty close and the texture is lovely, ruclips.net/video/MrZoHZQceOE/видео.html
Or a rainbow applique sewn onto a beanie would be a cute touch too! I don't have a pattern for one though.
@@eyeloveknotscre8tioncrochet thanks so much! With Halloween stuff being sold now, I’m sure that it’s the right time for the candy corn beanie.
Great idea on the rainbow appliqué too!
My sister and best friend really love that Suzette pattern and I intended to make more of those anyway. I will check out the Haylee pattern as well. big hugs.❤️
Hi there. I worked a rainbow beanie size 6-12 months with your Striped Dylan Claire Beanie. I started with 3 rows Red, 2 rows Orange, 2 rows Yellow, 2 rows Green, 2 rows Blue, and 3 rows Purple plus a purple single crochet edging. It’s so pretty!😊
@kat9446 aww, I love that!
Can a regular 4 weight be used?
Worsted weight #4 yarn is used in this pattern. Make sure to check gauge. It is important to ensure the hat will fit correctly.
Confused. R 9 30 clusters. R 10 35 clusters. My R 9 has 35 clusters. Written pattern. Love your work
35 is correct. It's a typo in the written pattern - I will correct it. You will have half the number of clusters as you do total stitches before beginning the clusters.
i am using thicker yarn, My measurement is bigger than yours. Will that matter Since i am making it for an adult?
Hi there! It will matter. It will result in a finished beanie that is too big.
Two ways you can look at it...
If it's quite a bit bigger, then perhaps you can just take out one round of increases. Make sure to measure to see if the diameter matches.
Otherwise, you'll want to go down a hook size, and then rework the sample, and remeasure the diameter.
If you start with a magic circle, it will reduce the bulk at the first row.
I like starting using my methods, but definitely use whichever method works best for you 😊
I have seen only one other here on RUclips that used the “ false stitch “ in her work .
What is the width of the beanie?
Somewhere around 9.88" since the finished circumference is nearly 19.75".
❤😘
the real skill here is to know how to increase from the crown crocheting suzette stitch
It’s really nice and easy but video is a little bit longer need to give less details
I provide all the information needed to work the project from start to finish in all of my videos.
I'm crocheting right now, and I tried it. It looks so neat, thank you!
I am so glad you enjoyed this technique! 🙂
