I was at this show. I can't believe I found this 22 years later! Thank you for uploading.
Poor jon theodore's arms
Peak The Mars Volta! Love it!
Facts
Probably the best recording of his singing I’ve found live.
5:14 that is one of the purest notes I've ever heard Cedric hit, live or studio recording!!!
@@JsRf13 Por ahora el que me parece que Cedric da más notas mas crudas (Que en lo personal me gusta más cuando se escuchan así) Es en "Mars Volta live in Tokyo" 2004.
Super super rare on night for him for sure. First thing i noticed
feel like being close to home gave him something a lil extra that night
@@tommeyer3840
Agreed, what an incredible performance
his singing is actually unbelievable
True
5:12 the purity of that note + the crowd losing it is one of my favorite moments in this
cicatriz esp with cassandra gemini in the middle is solid gold
Jon Theodore is hands down the best drummer TMV ever had....fucking love that guy
Dunno about that. Thomas Pridgen worked with what he had. But if you watch his live stuff, he's able to groove over stuff that's not even his like a madman. Being respectful while also having your signature is a hard thing to do improv.
Pridgen was always doing too much in my opinion. He was fine but was always going over the top unnecessarily @@applelandry4233
@@applelandry4233 Thomas is a (not so) close 2nd place. Jon is a force of nature and grooves really hard. Also: Dynamics. Jon can play soft and hard while Thomas always hits hard.
@@applelandry4233
if you like technicality, thomas is your man, but if you like creativity and flow, jon is your guy.
To me jon fit the best with volta
Its a bit like Ringo in the beatles, it wasnt about his skill but about how well he fit in that beatles pocket. Jon is far more skilled than ringo and thomas might be even more skilled than both, but Jon fit in that shoe so smoothly, better than all the other volta drummers
I totally agree... he's got it all.
Can I just say you are absolutely doing God’s work 🙌
holy shit this is amazing. this crowd was eating them up, they fucking loved these guys.
always love to see Texas cities supporting Texas acts. :)
20 year old fuckin video showing up on my feed A++
I wish I could’ve seen them at a club like this
they played mexico city last saturday, due to work i couldnt go... a part of me felt really bad, another is the 37 year old business owner i am. nevertheless, i browesed through the marble shrine archives and really wanted to relieve my times in my moms house scouting through soulseek for live shows, i remebered this one and instantly hit play... after 18 years of discovering them, theres no band that can make me feel what the mars volta makes me feel when they play live, that raw inherent passion that they put in their shows, the true feeling of being there and give everything they had. thanks the marble shrine for this archive, truly the best live band of our times. im glad i saw them 3 times when i was young, each so different from each other, but this tour... this tour was so amazing. damn... i cried so much in televators and felt so many raw emotions in take the veil. best 2 hours i spent with my self in a long time. thanks guys. is Zaid still part of this site?
It's hard to beat the energy they had in this era. It's definitely what drew me to them.
Zaid is still around! He isn't actively working on the site anymore but I still communicate with him pretty regularly. He's a wealth of knowledge for anything TMV related.
This was the best show I’ve ever been to
Can’t believe there’s video of this. First show I saw of theirs.
i love this youtube channel
I wish I was there!!
I was at this show!
Nice. Emo’s would’ve been an intense place to witness them on this tour. Saw them in a similar spot in seattle.
I took a little trip.. afterwards I was craving TMV. Rediscovering the nuances of the music after years, add in all this great live documentation. Agh, its exhilarating all over again. Thank you for putting this channel together
it's great seeing early days and hearing ideas that would later turn into songs
I can't beleive it's been that long. This show was dope!
Saw them same year here in Milano. What can i say? Unreal
This video really reignited my love for The Mars Volta, also this has to be the best Cedric performance ive seen uploaded.
This is a great show and interview
Love you so much for posting
wow. this is maybe one of the sickest volta sets I've seen. Saw them in san antonio last year, they're super on point
not even close to the "original" lineup's energy and presentation. Saw the reformed group twice in atlanta, and saw the original lineup 5 or 6 times.
For some time I forgot who is Jon Theodore. He is the volta of the mars.
Dave Elitch does a good impression of him but Jon is Jon. Man that guy hits hard AND fast. Imo he's great in QOTSA but it's a shame not seeing him rip those De Loused riffs.
I miss you Ikey
52:40 Cassandra Gemini
wow wow wow
This is it.
I love your channel so much, so grateful for your uploads. Mars Volta live shows are awesome especially when they sound this great
Una joya
43:28 cedric singing birthday by the sugarcubes got me
who does it better than volta? rock gods
is [Audio: Brian Graves] THE Graves from TOOL taping lore? If so, salute. He was the GOAT
No clue? What's the story behind him and Tool?
Rip emos
4:08
1:18:00 is so powerful the best part imo
What's Cedric doing with the audience's hands at the beginning?
It looks like he's waving cigarette smoke and tells someone to put it out before he smacks a couple hands for awkward high fives. haha
these guys were 28-29 at this time... jumping around like they were 18-19.
inspiring to say the least
ufc fighters kinda peak around that age so it makes sense, tmv were in their prime here. 25 to 30, peak physical body age
Ok people, help me with this one: why do people like Theodore more than Pridgen?
I don't know who Pridgen is. I had the pleasure to have met Theodore.
The interview at the end was super awkward and he shoulda asked better questions and more questions instead of jabbering and jabbering
The band could have iust ended after theodore left. It would have been perfect without any albums after frances.
i also used to hate any album after Frances The Mute but Amputechture has really grown on me. Jon also played in that album, you should give it another try
@@gumshake689 saw it live in 05. Its brilliant
i like ur very important playlist @@gumshake689
