    Just to clarify: This method works only if the car is unlocked (via the app) and the 12v is completely dead. It WILL work if the car is unlocked the 12v is alive and working but at that point you can just open your frunk through the screen. The FRUNK will NOT OPEN if the car is LOCKED with a healthy 12v battery using the battery method shown!
    Get the battery here if you can't get into your Tesla!

      These batteries are lithium, I had a few instances where the booster battery is weak especially during the cold season. Some of them includes an auxiliary adaptor, so I kept my ICE car booster connected to the “cigarette” lighter adapter that turns on when the car is and charges the booster. I haven’t figure out what to do with myself Tesla yet since it should be in the frunk. For now, I have AAA coverage for both of our Tesla and ICE car since they are both out of the road service / warranty and both has the original battery. 4+ for Tesla and 9 years for our BMW.

      I not a tesla driver, but I have a jump starter in my car, I charge it maybe once a year, they should hold charge for up to 3 years or more depending on the brand. you don't need it to be charging the battery all the time, it will reach the cycle life and will be dead when you need it the most. Its like charging your ev battery everyday, even when its full, eventually you will reach the end of life sooner than the original timeframe

    You also need to tell your viewers that the jump starter needs to be kept charged by charging it every other month or so. More frequent in extreme heat or cold. And they should always keep sentry mode on to keep criminals from accessing your frunk.
    Tesla should really make that option a type of physical key so that only the owner can open it.

    I just had to replace my battery today and Tesla quoted me $110 for mobile service but it would take almost 20 days for my appointment. With the warnings in the car telling me that the car might not start again after being parked, I started shopping.
    O'Reilly and Auto Zone don't carry anything for Tesla (outside of wipers) but Advance Auto Parts just started carrying these batteries in June 2024. I managed to get one shipped to store, but the price tag was steep at $300.
    There are a lot of videos on RUclips showing to to replace the battery yourself, and it was extremely easy. The only tool you'll need is a 10mm socket. Took me about 15 minutes and was very simple.

  • @TheElectrocar
    @TheElectrocar 2 месяца назад +1

    Recently received the notification on my Tesla and had mobile service come out to change the 12v battery. $118, tech was in and out in 10 min. I know many young folks in the comment section are disappointed the 12v can fail but before Tesla's software warning and mobile service, automakers for decades didn't give a $hit if you're 12v died. And no mobile service or fancy mobile app was available, you just just hoped and prayed you were near an auto shop that could help in an emergency. And if you drive any American automaker brand you know brands like Ford and Chevy always have a check engine light on new or old or the indicator for the 12v battery was always lit up, and since it was always on because of bad censors you just eventually ignored it until one day the 12v was in fact no good.

    I had the misfortune of a terrible head on accident with my Model 3 on the driver side due to a red light runner. I thought I was so prepared at the tow yard with my battery and jump starter, but the front was so mangled I could not even find those two leads. I kept the cover as a reminder, the leads got ripped off and lost somewhere. Cut up my hands looking for them.
    The only way I got into the car was that since the windows were vented after the airbags went off I found a long piece of junk with an angled end to pull the emergency release from inside while bending the window back. I got the trunk open by hitting the 'kidnap button,' which was hard since the Highway Patrol filled up the interior of my car with the junk from the other one, also got all cut up from this...
    To try and make a positive out of it if you do get into an accident open the glovebox and GRAB THE USB/SDCard whatever has your dashcam footage. In my case there was a fight over who was at fault, and if I could not get the USB that day it would have been a massive pain to then try and get the video evidence later.
    Also please just because you have a green light does not mean it is safe...

      I have not run across any real geeky technical information on Tesla's yet. Seems the real interest is driving it. Yes, why doesn't the car have a step down converter that can use the big battery to provide "some" power to the 12v system. An example is like an electric golf cart where you can get a converter to step the 48v battery pack down to 12v for an accessory, like a radio, lights, etc. How can Tesla be so dumb to just let the accessory/electronics battery just go full flat?

    • @colinnich
      @colinnich 2 месяца назад

      @@curtchase3730 It doesn't just "go flat" - it charges the 12v all of the time. This is only a problem if the 12v battery is faulty.

    Great stuff, I have a battery jump bank, but couldn't figure out how/where to safely store a 9v battery... the little A123 batt in a baggie is a great idea! and remember: this is ALSO very useful not just if 12v dies after 3-4yrs+...
    but also if your HIGH voltage battery goes completely dead when you ran out of range, since... the 12v batt runs out of juice very soon after, since no HV batt to recharge it, then... by time tow truck gets you to supercharger, it's dead, and ... you still can't supercharge, he has to jump your 12v... this can help if they don't know how.
    As you pinned comment, this method won't let thieves into frunk in normal situations. Still the best place to securely store valuables. It only helps when batt is dead and car locked, eg emergency.
    re the jump starter, I don't think the Tesla needs very high current/amps capacity, since there is no heavy starter motor current inrush...
    just needs enough to get the low-voltage system bootstrapped enough, to let the HV contactors close, so the HV batt can run the DC:DC converters (like alternator) and provide 12v power to system, ... letting you supercharge, not just open doors / use touchscreen.
    Hopefully more tow truck operators get savvy w/ EV low-voltage batt jumping...

    I heard that the front access port won’t work unless you have low12v battery. Thus theft can’t steal. Can you confirm?

    How are you keeping all those batteries and jump starters in your car? With the difference in temperatures they are not going to last more than a few months before they expand or worse...

    So basically anyone who has a A23 battery can walk around (at the mall) and open any Tesla's front truck relatively easily and take whatever is in the front trunk. Knowing this I won't be storing anything valuable in my front storage area now 🤔

    CHRIS - modern 12v lead acid are OUTDATED as are AGM and GEL batteries.
    Consumers should switch , ASAP to newer 15.5v Lithium batteries, they are MORE Reliable.
    12v batteries are just NOT up to TASK in this ERA.
