  • Just finished my latest thrifty makeover and this is the full video. My empty sitting room is becoming a little less empty. 🤓 Total project (including chairs) cost a whopping $38.67. Less than $20 per chair! 🤗 Save yo money folks and start thrifting! ❤ #frugalmonster #frugalorious #thrifting #thriftymakeover #furniture #diy #valuevillage #savers
    I really appreciate everyone that took the time to watch my video. I am by no means a professional at upholstery. I actually work full time in the financial industry 😊 but I love learning new things and working on DIY projects. Being a new homeowner I simply do this for fun and to also use this as an inexpensive way to furnish my home. I appreciate all of the positive and helpful comments!
    If you like more of these videos please help me by liking and subscribing. I am a thrift newb and new to refurbishing furniture. I bought a house last year and 65% of it is still empty. My goal is to furnish the rest of the house with thrifted furniture that's not haunted. 👻Lol

    You can visit thrift and goodwill stores for curtains and drapes , sometimes you can get really good quality which can be used for upholstery and throw pillows

    Nice job! I used a drop cloth to reupholster my dining room chairs. Chalk painted them white, as well. A couple of suggestions: Please wear gloves whenever you clean upholstery or wood. You never know what ended up on those chairs! Also, invest in a trigger that works with spray paint cans. Saves your finger from cramping up. Should be located near the spray paint.

    Stapling with a manual stapler IS tough on the hands. Go to Home Depot or Lowes or a place that rents tools and RENT an electric stapler. Easier on the hands and you have better control of how the fabric is placed. However, you did a fabulous job. And, another trick. After you paint the chair (or any furniture with wood), get some Simonize or Butchers Wax and wax over the paint. It will stay cleaner longer and no paint will come off. Again, super-duper job even for a beginner!

    • @jaelynrae5493
      @jaelynrae5493 4 года назад

      Modpodge to seal furniture??? That's like using diamond dust in place of baby powder - way overpriced and not the best product for the job. ;) Try using "wax finish polyvine" (I prefer dead flat or satin but choose whatever sheen you like best) next time (and leave the MP for the small craft projects)...it will change your world. 😁

    Those are VERY well made chairs with the webbing underneath! It is rare to find that. I agree with the statements below. I would have removed the old fabric even though it takes time, it is worth it. Also wear gloves to protect your hands and nails from the alcohol and paint The device that attaches to the spray can is a life saver. Removing the staples with a flat head screwdriver is perfectly fine. An electric stapler is another life saver and well worth the money!!!

    It is dangerous to use a screwdriver to remove upholstery staples. Screwdrivers are made to use with screws.
    Google, "Berry's Staple Puller". It's the best upholstery tool you will ever own. Other staple pullers will pop up with the search.
    Don't even look at them. The Berry's Staple Puller is the best. There are some RUclips videos you can watch.

    Good job on your first try, and nice touch on the detailing! I'll be doing some upholstering for the first time myself this summer, and it helped to see you go through the process. Thanks for sharing! ☺

    Nice job. I wonder if you could have used some sort of protective barrier between the old fabric and the new fabric.
