A neighbor put out a vintage cane barrel chair for free, it's terribly dated style-wise (definitely needed a full sanding!) and the upholstery was ripped to shreds, but it's solid wood and the wood's in great shape (not even any holes in the cane!) so I snagged it and this video's been so helpful as I restore it, thank you!
I just got an almost identical chair for free that also needs to be reupholstered. I couldn’t find a tutorial/video on how to go about it. This came up on my feed organically and I’m so happy!! Great job! Thank you
I looked up "reupholster barrel chair" and went through a bunch of videos and this one helped the most because you were figuring it out along the way like i am doing, and you still put in some hard and accurate work!! Nicely done. I'm gonna go try my hand at in now. 😬
Definitely add the wood piece in the front. Also great job - using the wood glue and stain to rehab the cane, paying attention while deconstructing so you know how to reconstruct, and finding innovative ways to achieve the desired result. I have a similar chair I need to reupholster (which I also found in the street) and this helps a lot!
Brilliant. Exactly what I need to know! I hadn’t realized that cording was the missing piece! Now I’m sure that I can finish my chair. Thank you. And your mom.
Yes !! appy that wood trim on the chair ...Amazing Video ..inspiring others to try, you remind me of myself when I was your age I know how much work went into that, your honesty & personality is sweet thanks for sharing
you did a great job rehabbing that chair! I picked up a couple of tips here (using the fray glue and the seam glue) which will help me in my own upholstery project.
Hi, I just watched your video because I have one of those same chairs. The bottom just blew out. If you touch the foam it just crumbles. The bottom carrier is the webbing with the compliment of foam that was in the bottom cushion but it was sewn to the bottom. It came apart as one piece… Thanks for the tip on the chair back. I was going to tuft the back again but it looks better without it. I hope you added the bottom strecher across the top under the front seat cushion. Send me a picture of your finished project.
You did a great job! Especially when it seems to be your first upholstered chair adventure. An electric staple gun would have helped you immensely. Yes, I think you should add the trim to the bottom of the seat.
These kind of chairs are selling online for 1300$ ! Vintage , meaning someone restored them the same way as you did ! You did a great job ! Very lucky to find it on the street ! :)))
You did an amazing job with upholstering this chair. I've done a few similar jobs myself so I know how time consuming and difficult it can be!!! Well done!!
This is really cool, you did a super job as well. I know what you say about pros, but, it is very difficult where I am to find someone. In my opinion, its a great skill, and some furniture is worth the effort as well. The video was fun too, thanks!
Great job. Love that you didn't know how to do this project, but figured it out so nicely and ended up with two beautiful chairs. One word of advise; please, please, always wear gloves and a mask when you are working with pieces that you find on the side of the road or even buy them from other people or from places. You never know how long has this been out or what you are dealing with. I do work with furniture, not a professional, and always protect myself. Thanks.
You gave me the motivation to redo mine! What stapler do u use? Mine is giving my fingers a hard time and I can't invest in fancy ones. I love the Linen fabric. I would add the bottom 'trim', it elevates the chair even further!
I actually went through 3 staplers and ended up liking my moms the best! It doesn’t have a brand name on it but I believe she got it at Joann’s fabrics. It’s brown and silver if that’s helpful..
I have a similar chair that I found on the sidewalk. Mine was tufted on the back and front and has a bit of an arch instead of a smooth barrel. I still haven’t bit the bullet on the reupholstery. I need to find a nice linen. Any suggestions?
Sounds like a great find! Look up local fabric stores in your area or a fabric district. That’s usually the best option. For online, kravet has decent prices for quality fabric. Just make sure the fabric is upholstery weight so it’s thick enough.

That's amazing, glad you were able to give it a second chance!
You did an awesome job! It turned out great! And yes, I would put the little piece of trim back on. Congrats to you!
Thanks!

Omg your mom is such a vibe haha. Also I just got a chair almost exactly like this and couldn’t find a tutorial anywhere so thank you!!
She’s a total vibe! Oh well that’s great timing! I hope it helps you 🤍

Great project. Really helped me out doing mine. I hope you added the wood trim piece. It really looks good with it.
It turned out great. I took apart a similar one tonight. You made it look so easy putting it all back together.

Thank you! 💯 would need an electric staple gun if I was upholstering a lot! My little wrist were tired haha
Awesome job!! I think the piece on the button would be terrific!! Anyway thank you for sharing 🌸

I’m currently doing 2 of the same chairs!
Fun!
Yes, attach the bottom piece! Great work!
Thanks Cristal! Bottom piece has been attached and I can confirm it looks stunning 🤩 lol
I would put the front piece back because it looks finished and the chair would be sturdier
Good tutorial! Thank you. Add the bottom piece 😊
Thank you! I added it and I’m so happy I did! Finishes the look 🤍
So talented great job looks great
Thank you!!
Wow! Thanks so much! I LOVE that you’re watching BASKETBALL.
You NEED an Air Compressor, and Staple Gun Thanks again

Where did you find that beautiful fabric?
A random shop in DTLA, it was a remnant so I can’t link it for you:(
How many yards did you need for the fabric??
Two yard is probably more than enough
What colour was the stain for the cane?
I don’t remember exactly but I think it was early American or walnut
Add the piece of wood trim. Great video
Thank you! I actually just added it and so happy I did! Looks finished now.
Hey, what stain did you use to fix the backing?
I believe it was Varathane Early American
I think you should add the front piece
Great job, neds more pizza 4 all that work tho.
Amazing job! Want to do the barrel chair I found on the road for your next tutorial?! You definitely have a more talented skill set than I do!
Haha you’re too kind! I’m sure you’re not giving yourself enough credit 🥲 I hope you give it a shot and have some fun along the way!
liquid stitch is for skin
I think there’s something called liquid skin for would care, but the one I’m using is for fabric
Great job!
Thanks!
Great job!
