For a great dance movie, watch "Saturday Night Fever", where the lead actor, John Travolta, did all of his own dancing for the entire movie - no stand-ins. He prepared well, taking dancing lessons for months before. His hard work paid off, to say the least.
My hometown, founded in 1879 as a dry town is still dry to this day. No alcohol sold in stores nor served in restaurants ever. This movie came out when I was a junior in high school and I remember walking out of the theater saying, “can I rent him for our prom?” 🤣🤣🤣 We had a catered sit down dinner followed by dancing and we wore fancy long gowns and the guys rented tuxedos. And we hired a live band. The junior class would host the prom for the junior & senior class. Oh and you’re spot on - great soundtrack!!!!

Here's the thing about the new Footloose film, my friend is an actress that teaches drama in Atlanta. When this movie was made a lot of small towns didn’t allow dancing! 😢The sure way to get teenagers to do something is to tell them NO. Many people in pain no matter what the size of the community that need help! Great reaction!! Sorry you couldn’t play the music that really makes the story even better!!
This is one of the 80's best teenage-related movie (along with The Breakfast Club). I should know, I was a teenager back then. This soundtrack and Top Gun's are one of the best soundtracks out there.
It's a series of romantic dramas that revolve around music/dancing and have choreographed dance numbers; usually following the formula of a girl and a guy from opposing backgrounds coming together. The general audience is teens and young adults so not exactly the most enthralling plotlines.

I always thought it was interesting that Reverend Moore said that “Satan is not in these books”, but yet that seems to be what he thinks about dancing and music.
I love this movie. It was filmed in Payson, Utah. (Where I'm from.) Back in 1984 they did a story about it on the local news. The news guy reported Hollywood was making a movie right here in Utah and there is no dancing and that's the plot of the movie. Then he said "of course, at the end of the movie......blah, blah, blah" and he said how the movie ended. People called the news studio to complain that the end of the movie was told, before it was even released. Now THAT was a news scandal around here. lol 💃🕺 I heard you say you were thinking about "Dirty Dancing". That's a movie I can't stand. Young girl; scuzzy guy; lots of people drinking, smoking, abortion. No thanks. But "Footloose" was a great choice.
Footloose and Dirty Dancing go together so well for many reasons. A really cool one though is the dichotomy between the two films is another example of how no matter how different we think we are from people who run in different circles or different cultures, we are always much more the same than we are different. Best Regards!
Keven Bacon was so popular in movies and now they have something called six degrees of Keven Bacon that you can link him from one actor to another in six people
Sarah Jessica Parker, who played Rusty, has had a long and impressive career! She's also married to Ferris Bueller! I hope you get to more of her movies. Fun fact: SJP was ballet trained and got her own 80's dance movie where she played the lead. Girls Just Wanna Have Fun (named after a Cyndi Lauper song) was less popular than Footloose, but still fun.
Movie is loosed based on a town Elmore City, Oklahoma. The bug is classic. Speaking of cars there is a Rally race in NE this week. Sandhills Open Road Challenge. They get a lot of entrants from around the country with some really nice cars.
Made me so happy to see this uploaded today, thanks! I just scrolled and saw that Olivia Newton John passed away, might think about checking out grease before the other reactors flood it lol.
This is always a fun watch & walk down memory lane. Except for the gymnastics scene this was all filmed mostly in Payson, Utah where I grew up. The high school scene "extras" are real high school students. It's always fun pointing out the people I know as they walk past the camera. I'd drive down the canal road from the tractor-chicken scene on an ATV to football practice because I wasn't old enough to drive a car. This film always brings back fun memories.
So fun! I haven’t seen this movie in ages. The remake more recently can’t hold a candle to the original. I will definitely be back to see you react to Dirty Dancing.
A couple classics you’d love The Outsiders (1983) Red Dawn (1984) And a Kevin Bacon movie that will absolutely rip your heart out Taking Chance (2009).
One movie with Kevin Bacon that I like is "Mystic River." You'll recognize four of the actors: Sean Penn (the older brother from The Game), Kevin Bacon, Tim Robbins (Andy from Shawshank), and Laurence Fishburne (Morpheus from The Matrix). It's also directed by Clint Eastwood.
There is a party game called The Six Degrees Of Kevin Bacon. Kevin Bacon has been in a ton of movies with a ton of different people. Basically, the game is taking any actor and connecting him or her to Kevin Bacon through other actors in other films to Kevin Bacon in six movies or less. Like…so and so was in X, with so and so, who was in Y with so and so, who was in Z with Kevin Bacon. Hope that makes sense. Most of the time it can be done in just 2-3 degrees of separation. People throw out suggestions just for fun in a group, or you can try to choose obscure actors and challenge people to make the connection in the least amount of moves. Can be turned into a drinking game.
soundtrack for this is incredible. From what I understand, there was a couple of smaller towns that had laws like this in place. I look at it more as a great music movie about relationships.
Even at my high school we had chaperones at all our dances, because anything too close or suggestive (think Dirty Dancing) was not allowed. And this was in 1986, a major metro area of the U.S.
Good ole Kenny Loggins! Footloose has some charm but is a bit silly now at times. The game of chicken is pretty funny though. Another 80's classic with John Lithgow - Buckaroo Banzai (1984) And one with Dianne Wiest, the quintessential 80's mom - The Lost Boys (1987)
Given the choice between Dirty Dancing and Footloose, I always choose Dirty Dancing. They both have similar vibes to them, they have great casts, and they have great soundtracks too. However, I just like the story a bit better in Dirty Dancing, and I think the chemistry between the lead actors is better in that film. However, this is still a great film that helped launch Kevin Bacon as a superstar actor in the 80s. I think everyone should watch it at least once.
Kenny Loggins West Side Story is a dance musical. Flashdance is a dance movie. Billy Elliott is a wonderful film about dancing. It's British, though. SJP (Sarah Jessica Parker) is the main character in the series Sex and the City. Was in the 1985 dance movie Girls Just Want to Have Fun. She's the brunette in this. John Lithgow is good in Cliffhanger. Diane Weist is a two time Academy award winner. Appears in many good roles. Try and watch her in Edward Scissorhands and Practical Magic.
The brunette is Sarah Jessica Parker. I had a crush on her growing up when I first saw her in the movie “Flight of the Navigator”. It’s also a great movie to checkout. I love Ariel’s growth in this film. When she realizes that with Ren she doesn’t have to act like a bad girl. The dance lesson with Willard was added cause the actor really couldn’t dance. It’s sad that even today there are people that want to control people like this town did. I’m torn with the remake they did. The photo Shaw showed Ren of his son was a photo of John Lithgows real son. Some scenes in it I like better than the original but the original will always rule. You should check out the remake for the scene when Ren picks her up for the dance. I wore out the tape I had of this soundtrack and the soundtrack to Top Gun.
Whether it was Field of Dreams or Footloose, It is fun to watch your reaction to farm/rural areas movies...Keep up the good stuff. Once again, pls look at Backdraft ('90s) and The Insider (Russell Crowe) for future reactions. Thanks!
I grew up in the 80s in the South. Music and dancing weren't outlawed, but conservative Baptist churches railed against it just like the pastor in the movie. Our church had bonfires for burning music and other "Satanic" stuff.
We've got a dry town here in NJ, Ocean City. At least I think it is still. Been years since I've been. It's one of the beech towns everyone goes to in the summer.
5:49, Archie Bunkers' cousins, maybe? Most people who had/have issues with Slaughterhouse 5 have no idea what its really about and never read the damn book.
Chris Penn is in one of the great 'sports dramas' of the 1980s (ever!), it is called Best of the Best - US karate, team drama, with James Earl Jones, Eric Roberts (someone who does a lot of excellent stuff/acting, Julia's brother) he's also in the sequel, which is an excellent action movie and should have been mentioned when I mentioned action movies! highly recommended if that is your sort of thing typed sean at first silly brain, I do know better haha
also, I've been doing small-scale high-yield regenerative farming for the past 15 years (among other things), with it being my focus, and just this past year moved to more land and bought my first tractor for steaad+farm work LOVE IT
SO this movie was "set" in Iowa or some other FLAT LAND state, BUT it was filmed in Utah and the cinematography and directors did not do their homework when they had a full view of the Utah Wasatch Mountains.
Kevin did some scenes of dancing, but there were lots of scenes with a body double pro-dancer filling in, where the face is a little vague in the shot.
Another great dance/ music movie to check out is the original version of “Fame” from 1980. They did a remake with a more modern flavor, but I prefer the original.
New and love the reactions! If you haven’t seen full metal jacket, platoon, or we were soldiers I would recommend. Similar to saving private Ryan but during the Vietnam war.

A really cool one though is the dichotomy between the two films is another example of how no matter how different we think we are from people who run in different circles or different cultures, we are always much more the same than we are different.
Best Regards!
thanks for the comment
to me Flashdance also goes with them
thematically a bit different, but, has a love of dancing and soundtrack and 1980s iconicness etc.
Saw this in the theaters back in the day (mid 80's I think). I remember Kevin Bacon in Animal House but I think this was his first lead role.
Keven Bacon was so popular in movies and now they have something called six degrees of Keven Bacon that you can link him from one actor to another in six people
thats fun
Sarah Jessica Parker, who played Rusty, has had a long and impressive career! She's also married to Ferris Bueller! I hope you get to more of her movies. Fun fact: SJP was ballet trained and got her own 80's dance movie where she played the lead. Girls Just Wanna Have Fun (named after a Cyndi Lauper song) was less popular than Footloose, but still fun.
That's so funny. My reaction to Dirty Dancing is coming out Friday and his sister plays the main actress
They filmed this in Lehi Utah, the mill that wren works at is still in use today.
That's cool
Movie is loosed based on a town Elmore City, Oklahoma. The bug is classic. Speaking of cars there is a Rally race in NE this week. Sandhills Open Road Challenge. They get a lot of entrants from around the country with some really nice cars.
How fun, have a good time
Made me so happy to see this uploaded today, thanks! I just scrolled and saw that Olivia Newton John passed away, might think about checking out grease before the other reactors flood it lol.
na, I've seen it like 5 times I'm good. Dirty Dancing coming on Friday
@@AwesomeUSMovies woohoo!!! That movie gets deeper than people expect going into it lol.
Love that for you
So fun! I haven’t seen this movie in ages. The remake more recently can’t hold a candle to the original. I will definitely be back to see you react to Dirty Dancing.
Thank you for the support
Kevin Bacon is one of these actor that I'm always happy to see in films were I don't know the cast beforehand.
A couple classics you’d love
The Outsiders (1983)
Red Dawn (1984)
And a Kevin Bacon movie that will absolutely rip your heart out Taking Chance (2009).
Thanks, I've added all these to my list. It's appreciated
Added to my list, thanks for the suggestion.
I find this to be bad
I will always love this movie🙂
Great Reaction!
Thank you!! 😁
Your former farming experience was definitely a help on what was going on in this movie, such as the costly tractor that was ruined.
It's been noted those are more today costs vs then costs
He must be in a lot of movies
I like your reactions. I also like the way the movies for viewing are picked, involving your sons. Subscribed.
Thanks for the sub!
soundtrack for this is incredible. From what I understand, there was a couple of smaller towns that had laws like this in place. I look at it more as a great music movie about relationships.
agreed
Even at my high school we had chaperones at all our dances, because anything too close or suggestive (think Dirty Dancing) was not allowed. And this was in 1986, a major metro area of the U.S.
Yeah, I'm reacting to Dirty Dancing on Friday. I can see that type of dancing being a problem.
@@AwesomeUSMovies LOL none of us were at that level of talent, but you know what I mean.
Chris Penn looks so different here than when he was in rush hour lol; yes the movie is modern times
Good ole Kenny Loggins!
Footloose has some charm but is a bit silly now at times. The game of chicken is pretty funny though.
Another 80's classic with John Lithgow - Buckaroo Banzai (1984)
And one with Dianne Wiest, the quintessential 80's mom - The Lost Boys (1987)
Added to my list, thanks for the suggestion.
This movie, BEverly Hills cop and Top GUn probably have some of the best soundtrack of the 80s (not counting musicals like Grease, of course)
Haven't watched Beverly hills cop yet
Given the choice between Dirty Dancing and Footloose, I always choose Dirty Dancing. They both have similar vibes to them, they have great casts, and they have great soundtracks too. However, I just like the story a bit better in Dirty Dancing, and I think the chemistry between the lead actors is better in that film. However, this is still a great film that helped launch Kevin Bacon as a superstar actor in the 80s. I think everyone should watch it at least once.
Really looked forward to your reaction of the tractor scene. Expected the whole lowdown of the model and make. Lol
OMG, that scene was hilarious... so slow. They made it look good but man... they would have been bored waiting for something to happen.
@@AwesomeUSMovies It makes me think of a scene in a film I'm quite sure you havent seen yet.
Kenny Loggins
West Side Story is a dance musical.
Added to my list, thanks for the suggestion.
This film inspired a wave of Tractor Chicken all across America.
God I hope not that would be really stupid
Fun Fact: Footloose is based on the real town, Elmore City, Oklahoma. Dancing was banned there from 1898 to 1979.
Good stuff thanks
What a great comment, is so much for the information. Yes, the soundtrack is amazing
This was a great date movie !!!! I still remember that night well!
Great classic !!!!! Love this movie 👌
So good!
This was my first date movie! So fun!

I went on a movie & dinner, too, seeing this movie. ❤️
And Baptists here in the north also considered pop music to be Satanic and was forbidden. I grew up next to a large family of them.
weird
I recommend "Hairspray" (2007) as another dance musical.
Added to my list, thanks for the suggestion.
Another movie with a young Sarah Jessica Parker “Flight of the Navigator.”
Added
ah, here's a suggestion for it, yay!
I have to get up and dance every time I hear that song
They were still burning rock albums in my small town when this movie came out.
funny and crazy to me
I thought that angry dancing in the forest was really cool when I was a little kid
We've got a dry town here in NJ, Ocean City. At least I think it is still. Been years since I've been. It's one of the beech towns everyone goes to in the summer.
It's a beech town but it's dry... that's funny
5:49, Archie Bunkers' cousins, maybe? Most people who had/have issues with Slaughterhouse 5 have no idea what its really about and never read the damn book.
Lords of dogtown 2005 & Lord of the flies 1990.
Added to my list, thanks for the suggestion.
Chris Penn is in one of the great 'sports dramas' of the 1980s (ever!), it is called
Best of the Best - US karate, team drama, with James Earl Jones, Eric Roberts (someone who does a lot of excellent stuff/acting, Julia's brother)
he's also in the sequel, which is an excellent action movie and should have been mentioned when I mentioned action movies!
highly recommended if that is your sort of thing
typed sean at first silly brain, I do know better haha
will put the year from now on!
also, I've been doing small-scale high-yield regenerative farming for the past 15 years (among other things), with it being my focus, and just this past year moved to more land and bought my first tractor for steaad+farm work
LOVE IT
Hi James, how are you. Now you have one of my favorite movies on your hands.....treat it well and with respect...🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I did... Dirty Dancing coming out Friday
Kevin Bacon is so young here, i missed this film, never seen it, i think i should after watching your review!
Not so long ago there was a town here in Missouri that prohibited dancing,I don't know if that law still exists
That's crazy
Just watched this movie for the 1st time myself today on laserdisc. Fun enough, good music.
Great soundtrack
4:20 I recently played Rev Moore in a community theatre production.
How cool, hope the main actress was hotter then this one
@@AwesomeUSMovies Hey, you’re talking about my stage daughter! (Yes, she was.)
I think dirty dancing was more popular but I always liked this one a lot better!!
Dirty Dancing reaction coming Friday
The classic VW Bug is my dream car.
A little to small for me.
SO this movie was "set" in Iowa or some other FLAT LAND state, BUT it was filmed in Utah and the cinematography and directors did not do their homework when they had a full view of the Utah Wasatch Mountains.
AGREEED... no mountains here! Utah I can see that. Also our towns aren't that wacky. That is more of a Utah thing
@@AwesomeUSMovies Nah, we can dance here. He was a Southern Evangelical Baptist.
2011… The Help. (Amazing movie!!!)
Added to my list, thanks for the suggestion.
"Still the greatest movie ever!" Peter Quill
Kevin did some scenes of dancing, but there were lots of scenes with a body double pro-dancer filling in, where the face is a little vague in the shot.
to bad, I'd want to do my own.
Great reaction video, love this song from the movie!
One Great movie with a killer soundtrack! Great Reaction
thanks
I had the soundtrack to this movie on cassette. Wow Im feeling so old.
Flashdance is another you can check out.
Classic somewhat oldie film
Thanks for the chance
Love the soundtrack to this film!
kevin bacon was like 25-26 when he played a high school student in this film
funny
AWESOME reaction! This was a good movie.
Enjoy your perspective!! 👍 And usually remember to like your posts 😉
Thanks for that
Another great dance/ music movie to check out is the original version of “Fame” from 1980. They did a remake with a more modern flavor, but I prefer the original.
Added to my list, thanks for the suggestion.
the guy at 1035 was in the best movie ever made. He was also in the movie electric horseman
cool
@@AwesomeUSMovies best movie ever, lonesome dove
Stir of Echoes with Kevin Bacon was pretty good.
New and love the reactions! If you haven’t seen full metal jacket, platoon, or we were soldiers I would recommend. Similar to saving private Ryan but during the Vietnam war.
Added to my list, thanks for the suggestion.
Great reaction, I loved that you could relate to the small town feel of the movie. Can't wait until Friday.
Glad you enjoyed it!
