Do you have to keep the dongle attached to your PC all the time? Or is it just for first pairing with the PC? I really hope you don't always have to be using the dongle in this day and age.
Hi Steven, this is a loaded question. Initially, it was necessary to use a dongle. Believe it or not, some organizations still have older computers that don't support Bluetooth and require a dongle for connectivity. Then there are computers with Bluetooth but don't support the necessary Bluetooth Profiles for both receive and transmit audio. Most support receive (listen) only audio. Then there is the plethora of softphones that require the dongle to support remote call control features. And even with a dongle, not all softphones support remote call control. Fast-forward to today, and HP Poly Bluetooth Direct technology allows Poly Voyager headsets to automatically connect to select HP laptops without the need for adapters or manual adjustments. The Poly Lens Desktop app, which comes pre-installed on some HP laptops, detects the headset and confirms pairing with an image. This technology also gives users more control over meetings and calls, allowing them to access controls for volume, mute, voice prompts, and preferences from both the headset and Zoom Meetings. And even more recent, Logitech announced native Bluetooth connectivity with select Zone for Business Bluetooth headsets and computers with Microsoft Teams. Learn more here www.logitech.com/en-us/business/nbt-certified-headsets.html To answer your question, YES, if you are using the Shokz Opencomm2 UC with a laptop, it's strongly recommend you connect via the included dongle. Does the OpenComm2 have true stereo audio where you can play different channels of audio in each ear? I really liked the OpenComm, but it didn't have that feature so it was a deal breaker for me.
Hi Gator, that's a great question. The Shokz OpenComm2 UC, bone conduction headsets, play audio in true stereo. It's a bit trippy, but I tested them with a song that uses left/right stereo, and you can hear the different sounds from each ear. And if you're wondering which song, Such Great Heights by The Postal Service. The only thing about bone conduction vs. on-ear/in-ear speaker headphones/headsets is the lack of bass. Yes! The mic performance should be comparable/similar but I will do some tests and share video later. I'm headed to Infocomm 2023 in Orlando, FL so will be pretty busy for the next couple of days.
Why is the noise canceling so much better in your review of the old model? ruclips.net/video/x8oa2Qw_z0A/видео.htmlsi=DS2bFjrRHTUl1UGC is it how it’s connected? Third party software? Being connected to pc vs phone? Please let me know why the drastic difference in performance seen now?
The connection is the same. The new Shokz Opencomm2 UC mic placement is now on the right side vs the left side. According to Shokz, the new Opencomm2 UC has Optimized Microphone Performance compared to the Opencomm UC. The set up was identical. Same laptop running Windows 10. When I get home I can run side by side tests and record. I'll send recordings to Shokz to get their feedback.
When are they going to ditch that god-awful charging cable? Trust me, there's room for a USB-C connector, and they make them for IPX2 all the way to IPX8 waterproof ratings @ 10k mating cycles. Glad the noise cancellation works with farm animals. It will come in handy for those GoatTo Meeting calls.

@@CallOneInc this is great! Thanks.
Question: is the UC version any different than buying standard and later buying the computer dongle?
Hi solarbalance! Apologies. I thought I responded earlier. You can order the Opencomm headset by itself and then later purchase the appropriate dongle. The new Opencomm2 UC is currently only sold with the dongle. Shokz has stated they plan on selling Opencomm2 headset only later.

Mic is great for noisy environments but you can't hear crap so i can't never use it when it's loud outside and have to switch to an on ear headset.
You are 100%. Shokz recommends you wear earplugs in noisy environments. Some folks wear ANC earbuds. Thanks for watching and sharing your feedback!
I hope this helps you.

What recording software are you using for your vids? Thanks!
Hi Michael! Thanks for watching! For this video I used Windows 10 Camera app to record. In upcoming videos, I will include Microsoft Teams and Zoom recordings to show the additional Noise Suppression available via their platform/application.

No way to make them work with Cisco desk phone 79xx right?
Hi SGK, currently there is not a way to connect/pair Shokz Opencomm2 UC to Cisco 79xx desk phone. I'm curious to know what industry you are in that is using the older Cisco desk phones. i.e. Financial, Insurance, Healthcare, Education, Government, etc. Established brands like Poly (formerly Plantronics), Jabra, and EPOS (formerly Sennheiser) have headsets compatible for Cisco 79xx phones.

@@CallOneInc would like to know if it has the same performance connected via phone
bt only
Yes! The mic performance should be comparable/similar but I will do some tests and share video later. I'm headed to Infocomm 2023 in Orlando, FL so will be pretty busy for the next couple of days.
@@CallOneInc thanks
On another vid I saw that the OC2 have changed the position of the mic holes which may have helped

Ima Just get OpenComm 2 for $159.99
The OpenComm 2 are designed for audio calls on mobile devices. Keep us posted on your experience!
😂 Good one! I agree 100% with you. The proprietary charger is annoying. Almost as much as headsets that still have Micro-USB charging. Thank you for watching and supporting our channel! Moving forward, I plan on testing only in real-world environments. It will be challenging but these days, people truly work from anywhere.
For info. I've seen that you can get cheap 3rd party adapters to convert any USB cable to the shokz power adapter
