Been living in my current apartment for over 4 years and have not gotten a new stove or a new oven or a new refrigerator my refrigerator is rusted should I tell my landlord that he needs to give me a new refrigerator because he gave it to me like it was there when I got here
First, review the lease agreement to see whether or not the appliances are included. It sounds like the property owner provided the fridge, but there might be something in the lease that says they are not responsible for it. Assuming that the property owner is responsible, they have to provide a working fridge. If the fridge is ugly, unfortunately the property owner doesn't have to replace it. I would just ask if they would replace it, or perhaps offer to help pay for it. Or purchase your own fridge and take it with you when you move out.
As a landlord you can sue them for that money. Trust that and you will win. Because in most states there is no law that backs up a tenant for appliances. No landlord have to provide appliances.
No tenant in this day and age will move into a place without a fridge. Also, laws vary by state. In my state, a tenant could basically steal a bunch of rabid monkeys and recreate the Civil War in the living room and not have to pay a penny. Check your state's laws and don't be a slumlord.
Thank you Brian, great info
