He pitched 2 innings for the Red Sox against the Detroit Tigers in a 1940 game at Fenway (throwing 2 scoreless innings in relief, giving up 3 hits and even managing a strikeout), fairing somewhat better than Albert did today --- it was still fun to watch though.

to see Albert pujols pitch was another moment in my life I will never forget but here is a Pujols stroy that I dont love so much...
Im a lifelong Cardinals fan and in 2001 (pujols rookie year) I was 13 and I was obsessed with baseball, (I still am) but you know what I mean, I played it, chased every minute of my life was baseball, in 01 I went to
Albert Pujols bat day and I took a friend that wasnt really into baseball, well to were down by the dugout anf it was in july so it was very hot, well I left to buy us lemonade and when I came back my friend was 1 of about 15 people that Albert came out and signed my friends bat! my friend then the same day, after the game where the players come out to leave the stadium (you no longer can do this) and Albert came out, however on this time, I was on the wrong side (he only walked down 1 row and signed) I was on the opposite side. The worst part is after Albert came out, I heard the other team was signing autographs and some big names were out there, well when I came back to the Cardinals side, my friend TRADED his bat to some guy that took advantage of a kid and traded him a bat with NO auto on it and a ball with a bunch of relief pitchers autos on it, he heard the story about Albert signing the bat and when I left the guy told my friend he was getting the better deal, and got that bat and ran, I literally cried as I thought my buddy was going give it to me, he knew how much I loved Albert and He didnt collect Autos, cards etc,
To this day I dont have an auto of pujols, I tried to get one years ago and got ripped on ebay, Its almost like my fav players auto is not destined 4 me. :( one day I hope to get one on a card or anything as long as it is real.I did go to fuji flim day in 01 and got some awesome 1 of kind pics of Albert, would love to get one those signed but I doubt Ill even get a auto of him at all but he will always be my fav player! go Cardinals!

I think what makes this ultra rare is the fact that a position player is pitching with a lead. It's almost always the other way around.

I was at this game with my brother, we had great seats over the second base. It was a fantastic game to see not just him pitch, but also Waino and Yadi make history. We chose to stick around and it definitely paid off, I remember earlier in the night telling him about Willians Astudillo's pitching career as just a funny bit of fact. But when Albert pitched every person was on their feet my whole section was looking at the speed counter more than the actual pitches, he must have averaged 40-45mph. Every pitch was special as it was fun but also bitter-sweet to an end of an era of great Cardinals players. The night will be something I will make sure to reminisce about in to old age.
