    You've just saved me from my 6 months long headache of trying to find a system for my Ford Ranger Wildtrak X.... you won't believe how IMPOSSIBLE it is to find anyone that knows anything about Ford's Flexible Rack System, it has a cross bar system that can be deployed out or hidden away when there is no rooftop load, but this made the side rails much thicker than all other models of Rangers and as a result, rooftop accessories for owners of the Platinum or Wildtrak X models is literally zero, you'd either have to take off the factory rails or forgo thinking about using a platform system.
    The secret from your video is the Yakima lock n load clamps... they will fit nicely with the factory crossbars. Why can't these rooftop specialists just recommend this little nugget that could've solve all Ranger Platinum/Wildtrak X's headaches is beyond my comprehension.
    Thank you so much for showing the Build of materials screenshot, without it, Yakima themselves didn't even know what the heck i was talking about -_-
    Liked and subbed faster than my heart could beat! Keep up the good work.

    I love the delivery of your review and all the humorous points are on par with why I would choose the same rack. I’ve been debating about purchasing this rack but Yakima told me the same thing that it wouldn’t fit on my factory rails on my 2020 4runner. Yakima wanted me to by additional parts which would increase the height of the rack which I did not want! Now that I know it would fit my rails with the additional clamps I’m going to pick one up!

      Thanks for the complements! So far we’ve had ours loaded up a couple times on the trail and it’s worked out great. It’s a shame their service is so bad. We actually had a bad part in the original box and Ive been trying to get a replacement for two months. They do seem to run the 20% off sale regularly. It was on again over the 4th of July so I would wait until labor day and save yourself a couple hundred bucks.

      Some users reported that mounting a Yakima SkyBox on the factory rails results in a scratched roof from the box's mounting clamps. Maybe Yakima feels that it's a similar situation here. Good to know that the Platform works though.

    Hey. Wondering how the OEM (with their curved shape) worked with the adaptor/rigid box. And also how they held up under any significant weight. Unfortunately Even with the new landing pads and a direct connect that hit market since this video you need to do the full size 84x54 for the GX without doing any mods, this size won’t fit without cross bars. Would love to not have to also purchase Yakima bars for a few more hundo. Thanks as usual for the informative vid.

    • @WastingTimeInTheWoods
      @WastingTimeInTheWoods  Год назад

      I ran this half platform on the OEM curved bars for one season. I ran about 150 pounds up there and probably did 250 to 350 miles of trail that summer. By the end of the summer the bars were pretty much shot. Every time I hit a bump, the platform weight would cause the bow to flex and we’d hear a popping sound. Not really worth it for the cost of the platform. I don’t drive really technical trails and I don’t even drive that fast on the forest roads. This is the main reason we switched to a full platform solution. The bars would have popped out eventually and that would have sucked on the trail.

    Great video and you are a natural. I want to buy and install this same set up, but was wondering how much higher does the rack sit above the factory rails. I have the Yakima ski racks and want to attach to the top of the locknload. I just don’t think it will fit into my garage with my 2” lift and 32inchers. I do have the rear air bag setup and maybe I could lower upon entering, if I remember????

    • @WastingTimeInTheWoods
      @WastingTimeInTheWoods  3 года назад +1

      I believe it was 5.5” from the roof to top of rack. Sorry, I just sold it or Id measure. I have a new E sized locknload ready to assemble when I get a few minutes. I don’t think Id rely on my memory to hit that switch every-time I garaged it but maybe your memory is better than mine : ) Wanting to keep it garaged with the rack on is one reason I haven’t lifted mine yet.

      @@WastingTimeInTheWoods With a 2 inch lift it will fit in the garage with the locknload. The ski racks are much taller and I still have a couple of inches. Now I can’t enter while carrying skis. Was the original rack too small after you used it?

      @WastingTimeInTheWoods  3 года назад

      Hey, Javier, sorry I missed this. I'd say the slats are a bit wider, maybe an inch? But they also have a kit to add a rooftop box I think. You can use the T slots to mount anything you need as well.

    Great video- I have a question that I'm hoping another viewer can help with. I have a pickup with Yakima cross bars over the cab, and I'm looking to get a canopy and then add this platform on that. The problem is I live in a condo with a 6'10 clearance in the parking garage. I'm at 6'9 with the bars... Does anyone know the added height with a rack like this on a canopy? Does it reach higher than crossbars on the cab would? Very specific scenario I know, but I hope someone can give specifics. Thanks!

      Thanks! Nope, I used the generic bars I bought on ebay. They fit fine but the set screw that holds the crossed bar into the bracket came loose after a while. This set-up can't carry a ton of wieght due to the low load capacity of the factory bars.

    • @WastingTimeInTheWoods
      @WastingTimeInTheWoods  3 года назад +2

      It's worked out great. I generally just carry 3 large boxes up there. I do wish I had opted for a slightly larger size and the weight limit on the factory rails is a big limiting factor but the rack quality is solid after a summer of trail use. Wind noise is moderate. You definitely hear it but I don't notice it unless on the freeway and even then, it's just a low level of white noise.
