The first time I played the Waterloo scenario, I was extremely frustrated. I remember reading a history textbook which stated that the French had 246 guns and employed a massive Grand Battery, while Wellington had around 156 guns deployed tactically at various points along his line. But in the game scenario, Wellington actually had either the same number of, or more guns than Napoleon, and I found the 6/8-pounder guns given to me close to useless.

I am surprised they didn't show or refer to the fact that Napoleon was confronted by Ney and a regiment after escaping the island. Napoleon stood in front of his own troops and told them to shoot if they wished to kill their Emperor. Ney orders them to fire, yet the entire regiment refuses and joins Napoleon. In my opinion, there is nothing more inspiring than this moment in french history.

I still believe he was a hero to his people. His reforms may only have been matched by those of Frederick The Great.

Napoleon was NOT like the other kings because he gave the french people justice. with the monarchy, you had to be a nobleman to get anywhere in your life, and with the republic you had to be from the lower or middle classes to not be executed. Napoleon treated people based on their qualities, not their social class, and that's why the french loved him. and about the wars: don't you think justice and liberty are things worth fighting for?

if you blame napoleon for not surrendering and thus sacrificing lots of lives, you can also say it about the founding fathers of the USA: they could just accept british rule and not fight for their rights.

With Napoléon, France became the most important nation of Europe, like it was during middle age or under Louis XIV and François 1er. Louis XV and Louis XVI were really poor monarch, but Napoléon was genius in tactitcs and also brought us lycée (highschool) and a really good civile code (partially still used nowadays). And actually, it's not him who declared war, but the coalitions, feared of the republic, and then feared of the empire.

That was Otto von Bismarck who did those things, Wilhelm just took all the credit.

@andresrojas22 Wellington was an insanely good general, he was not brill at sieges but his steadfastness, use of the land, skill at uniting people, strong discipline and use of new technology (rifles, shrapnel, rockets) all meant that when push came to shove he could out match Napoleon. Also he had on average better troops. faster rate of fire = victory over massed column.

Napoleon has changed the world more than any general now could wish to change it. He was a Hero to Europe and the World. May France continue to prosper and share great relations with its old enemy turned ally, Russia.

@MEXICO579AC No, Ney proved that false, massed calvery will destroy a line, so Ney did take away the advantage of Wellington's hill and fought him on flat ground.

They are worth fighting for. If you don't like the example of France & Napoleon, look at Lithuania. Horrid wars happened, all for freedom. At all times - Medieval, New Ages... Nobody cared about the dead men, nor is anyone complaining about them now. Lithuania fought to be free, and now is free. HOORAH.
(Fact: During his visit in Lithuania on the way to Russia, Napoleon said he would take St. Ona's Church on his hand and bring it to Paris if he could.)

@andresrojas22 He "hid" whilst the spanish irregulars killed the french. True, it was a tactical master stroke, he drew the enemy into portugal and fixed them behind the lines of torres verdres (one of the most astounidng feats of military engineering.) Hunger and gurillers did the rest. He mashed the french without firing a shot! that is what i call a good general. Futther more look at his victory over the french, Bussaco, talvera, salamanca, vittoria and many more.
