PrinceofMacedon the only reason y Napoleon lost was because a battle before waterloo the French won tactically but not strategically had Napoleon surrounded the Prussians instead of them doing a orderly retreat Napoleon most likely would have won. The battle was mostly tug of war between farmhouses Napoleon had superior artillery but less infantry. When the Prussian arrived there was no chance of winning
And here I've been losing by the skin of my teeth despite crushing the Prussians (via spawn camping) and destroying the center artillery with my stationary guns before they got destroyed in turn, and rolling horse cav up onto the ridge by the Prussians along with most of my army, without taking more than maybe 25% across 3 regiments and losing the two doomed center arty units. It is probably Darthmod or one of the improvement packs changing some of the balance, but I also have not tried hiding part of my army in the forested corner of the map like he did, which drew away part of the British after they neutered his center arty. I also engaged the final units partially on level ground and partially from higher ground, when I play it next I'm going to make sure I'm only firing from high ground after I mop up the Prussians or maybe frame the corner and let them walk into the envelopment with the center covered by cannon.
+Hat21 when I first started gaming in the 80's and 90's, I would've been all over a campaign prospect. But now that I have less time, I strongly prefer focusing on multiplayer battles (which take up less time)
I did the exact opposite of what you did here. I went to Hougoumont, bypassed it via its left with my main army as it charges towards the ridge behind it with bayonets fixed while shelling it with canisters using horse artillery. I kept my cavalry stay put until Wellington I assume brings his army down the ridge in an attempt to meet my massive flank attack, which he only did when the Prussians arrived but by this time the right flank of the Anglo-Allied army gone. I beat Allied units one by one as they can't move them all in time to meet my army, and I ended up crushing their army. Screw you, Nappie! I did what you couldn't do!
THe real question is whether Wellington would have been happy to wait on that hill and watch all of the French army run off to his flank to fight the Prussians. Maybe Wellington would have stayed on the hill. Certainly all the mud from the rain the night before would have made all that marching very tiring.
I know it's been 1 year but the most realistic answer why wellington stayed on the hill is..... Napoleon used the terrain to sneak his troops to face the Prussians and used Canon fire to cover up the fact his troops are flanking around... While the Prussians engaged french wellington must have thought it is the Prussians are attacking the French flank. Wellington Still not knowing half the French is flanking around him thought he should keep his advantageous terrain.... In The game if you kill wellington the whole army will charge
and Christ was jew ? Napoléon is a French first name, it's not Napoleoni. Why a mother would call his Italian son under a pure French first name, hu ret' ?
He meant it because his family came originally from Tuscany. Also, Corsica had been a territory of the Kingdom of Sardinia until not long before the Napoleonic Era. But Napoleon learnt French and he became French, so he may have some Italian heritage, but he isn't actually a citizen of our country, he's definitely a French one.
I was nervousing watching it... sweet mother of mercy, that was great attempt indeed, Well played, I beat it after 3rd attempt but still nearly failed xD
There is an easier way of doing this. At the beginning, just go and capture the house of Papelotte to the right. Send half your infantry, and all your old guards furthest away from the Prussian to capture the house. The house is super strong, the entire English artillery had been shooting at it for 30minutes and it's only damaged 40%. AI will not able to shoot the troops inside, their melee attack deal no damage to the old guards, like rain falling on steel. Then you can shoot them like target practice. I think I walked away with like only 700 800 dead. In the video 1500 French died.
I think if Napoleon was able to capture Papelotte he could've use it to defend against the Prussians. Have most of his army intact when he retreat, or even win the battle.
In the early battle, you could thin out your men to reduce artillery damage. Keep 3-4 infantry in long line, shooting the Prussian troops running in disarray, while the rest pop corn British flank in formation and good terrain. When the Prussians are destroyed, the British would have to fight in disadvantaged terrain.
I wonder if Prince of Macedon played an earlier edition of this game in 2016 with less intelligent A.I. I played the "Definitive Edition" in 2019. When Prince played this battle, after he wiped out the Prussians and attacked the British left flank, the British sat passively for a long time as Prince rolled up their line from their left to their right, taking on one British unit at a time. Only very late in Prince's game did the British come out of their defensive positions to make a massive counterattack. When I played the Definitive Edition in 2019, I used Prince's tactics exactly: wipe out the Prussians as they emerge and then attack the British left with my units deployed at right angles to theirs. But, starting the *instant* I attacked the leftmost British unit along the crest of the ridge, the *entire* British army pivoted to its left as a single mass and attacked my entire line on a frontage that was perpendicular to the original frontage. The fight lasted a long and costly time for both sides, but there were too many British units of too high quality--all of them attacking simultaneously in coordinated fashion--for me to oppose and I was eventually beaten.
I tried the same thing, only the Brits charged my cannons and didn't even let me get set up after I defeated Blücher. I beat back their initial bayonet charge, but they overwhelmed me with their second.
Attacking the Prussians one unit at a time, constantly re-issuing movement orders so his forces are moving instead of shooting, when on the top ridge not keeping units together for overwhelming attacks, again re-issuing orders instead of shooting, and not looking at the terrain topography to make sure you can shoot them effectively.
I actually beat this conventionally on Normal by a hair, don't judge him too harshly, it's pretty much impossible on the hardest difficulty conventionally, even if you decisively roll the British you will get stomped by the Prussians out of attrition numbers and morale wise.
Prince if you like NTW you should download LME4. Makes your unit sizes massive about quarter the size of a real battalion, better graphics and more realistic accuracy and cavalry power
This was very painful to watch. The reason you lost so many men against the Prussians was you only sent two infantry units ahead to face their entire army. Your cavalry charges were mishandled and uncoordinated. I don’t understand why you didn’t move your army together or at least run your units who were behind. Exhausted units are more helpful than no units. Against the English, your formations and positioning were off. Your units needlessly take flanking fire, and you waste too much time and ammo shooting at them at point blank when you should be charging them directly all the while still not engaging all of the units you have available in the area. And when your square was being attacked by two enemy cavalry units, you directed an adjacent unit to march up and shoot an enemy infantry unit far away instead of helping your square. WTF?!
I managed to defeat the Prussians with about 100 soldiers lost and defeat the British with half or more left. To start you move all your soldiers to the right edge of the map just enough to have a reverse slope with your Fusiliers forming battle line. Three horse units can get the Prussians to spawn then retreat for them to follow you down the road. Remember to use square when Blucher and his horse charges and you won't lose many at all (because of the reverse slope). Next send all your soldiers to form a battle line on the plains with the elite troops on the right flank and slightly diagonal against the bottom of the hill with your artillery on the hill. The Prussians have one artillery running towards the British. If you attack it with lancers it will aggro ALL British horse except for one Dragoon unit. Defeat all their horse with your elite troops in square. Now you are free to send your overwhelming horse army to kill the 40 dragoon unit and Wellington himself. Use diamond and watch out for spikes. The British will try to chase down your horse with their elite troops meanwhile your battle line massacres half their army with artillery raining down from the hill. From then on it's mopping up. You kill twice their number at least.
Also there's several other tricks 1. Unlimber your foot artillery at the start and move directly backwards it will limit your casualties as you redeploy and keep all your artillery alive 2. After you kill all the Prussians have your battle line deployed in echelon formation against the bottom of the hill and your artillery on the slop of the hill facing west. The British will try to attack down the hill and get raked by your artillery 3. Keep one unit in line in the rear to gun down any units the British try to send in the back. The entire strategy depends on killing the Prussians with 100-200 dead, then killing their retreating artillery to aggro all the British horse except for one unit of Dragoons. You then use all your plentiful horse to defeat that one unit and have free reign of the entire map.
The way to win is to rush and occupy the plateau on the right to meet and cut off and eliminate Prussian reinforcements first with help of horse artillery unit. Capture the right building with grenadiers and hold it. Then just wait as the whole enemy army will rush this building while you reposition your troops to meet the English on the plateau. Place horse artillery in the middle with canister shot. Try keeping your cavalry together as one unit and save it to clear the map at the end. Pretty easy. I lost just about a half of my army. But it took a few attempts to figure this out) Trying to storm the ridge never worked for me.
This game's historical battle are such a mess even from the start. You can't place your troops yourself, you always spawn in front of enemy artillery, the timer for prussian arrival is super short, and that's not to mention stupidity like instakill barricades on horses and pathfinding problems
Wait-They got it entirely wrong! In the actual battle, it would be much easier to attack from Hougoumont than Papelotte as the terrain around Hougoumont was easier. It's the exact opposite now.
