My TV is connected to my hifi and listening to this demo through the hifi speakers sounded amazing. Great sounds from this pedal and brought back many great listening memories of my teenage years.
I was watching this on my mobile phone and at the time you told us to go and get our headphones, the sound was absolutely swinging from side to side. Thanks for confirming my phone is great 😂
8:00 Delicate Sound of Thunder Impact was massive. Couldn't believe when I first heard Yet Another Movie Live version in the 90s as a kid. Very cinematic.
I'm still using a TC G-Force as my main FX unit. Channel L and R out being routed to two separate channels on my power amp, which drives two different cabs. Those cabs are spread out 4 ft. and the resulting stereo image is *audible bliss.* And all of that in just 1 rack unit. I wish they made a re-release of the 2290 the same way!
Steve Rothery has been using one for decades as well. I bought the plugin version when the price was hacked to bits on it from over 200 to just over 60 quid. Very very useful
I will admit that one of my favorite delay effects is the ducking variety. The Isley Brothers (probably among others) used that sound quite a bit in the 70s and 80s, but that was done in the studio, manually, I think. Some of my current modellers have ducking delay algorithms; one disappointment in my newest modeller is that it DOESN'T have a ducking delay. t.c. electronic really started something back in the day, eh?
You’re absolutely right, Captain: profiling SUCKS!!!😂😂😂 I bought this pedal blindly, just because I had an original rack unit, back in 1990, sold some months later to pay the rent (that day I cried very much!) and I’ve followed really closely the genesis of 2290P. I’m a huge fan of TC and I totally love this one, I’ve immediately take off the old Flasback Triple from my main pedalboard and inserted this one tout de suite!!!!❤ love ya guys!
The Boss DD-500 also does similar wonders with sound as the Tc Electronic 2290, but you have to set it properly because it has a very extensive menu, so it gives you a lot of possibilities in creating sound :). However, I admit that this new TC Electronic is very good 👍, and for a delay unit it produces a very good chorus, in the style of the 1980s.
As an owner of this and the recent Boss digital dual delay, for my purposes, the 2290 pedal blows the Boss out of the water. Sooo much easier to use, fabulous wide stereo image. It’s pretty big, but it was worth the space and replaced the Boss unit. It’s the one i’m keeping. ✌️😌🎸
Whilst Gilmour did indeed use a 2290, the delay on the Wish You Were Here album was likely produced with a Binson Echorec. And the intro to Shine on You Crazy Diamond was likely an MXR Phase 90 into a Leslie cabinet.
A fiew things here: The Musicman Luke IV (4) was released this year. And also, Steve Lukather was using the 2290 in his rack in the late 80s.But his main delays was 2 Lexicon PCM 70. He was using those alle the way untill he stop using the rack and went for the pedal-board around 2010 ish.🙂
Delicate Sound of Thunder is still to this day my favourite live album and yes, David Gilmour's tone is incredible. I may have to add this pedal to my rig.
10:49 I thought Lee was going to say "could you imagine what it must have been like playing that sound for the first time into those rigs." Seriously it must have been like those videos of children hearing for the first time after having cochlear implant surgery.
This isn't TC Electonic's first 2290 (sort of) pedal. Their Nova Delay is a much simplified bare bones 2290 copy. Check out Shnobel's video comparing the original 2290 and the Nova delay. The Nova can do the main sounds really well. 🙂 This new pedal looks like a much more capable beast, very interesting!
I’m with Pete having something that looks like it belongs on the dash of Kit or a certain DeLorean on my pedal board would be super cool, but I’m an 80s baby so .
Im in stereo boys A Headrush MX5 w upgraded particle verb and it's outstanding looper w an Orange ABY box to a Spark40 w a looper in front of it. Im in orgasmic soundscape shoegaze heaven mates. Dreamy❤
Hey Lee its Bill, the guy that found the info on your dads guitar and sent it to you years ago. Anyway I was wondering if you might get Colin from the Guitaristas channel on your show. Col is in England just a bus ride from London and quite a unique chap. He has mentioned your channel quite often and made purchased some guitars from you. Col's work history is interesting as well. Love your work and Pete is amazing as well thanks for all the Guitar content.
Would definitely like to see direct comparison to the Flashback in stereo. The Toneprint editor is feature rich and I would imagine that most if not all of the same settings are in there. Same goes for Plethora. The real question is the sound quality. How does THAT hold up?!?!
I don’t know if the TC2290 is ubiquitous on U2’s The Joshua Tree album. He used the TC2290 more on the album prior, The Unforgettable Fire. The Edge used 2 Korg SDD3000 rack units from 1986 on. He’s kept the TC for songs like “Bad” and “Pride” to get as close to the original sound as possible. I know he used an EHX Memory Man as recently as 2000 for “Beautiful Day.” He’s hyper specific about his sound and he has a TC as part of his touring rig to this day, but I think they’re relegated to the songs circa 1983-1984.
You've got it reversed. He replaced the Memory Mans with SDD3000 around Under A Blood Red Sky, and all of The Unforgettable Fire and subsequent tour where SDD3000. The 2290 wasn't even available until 1986, and he started using it shortly after on the Joshua Tree. "Bad" and "Pride" are Korg, as most of the more anthemic songs. On the Joshua Tree and Rattle and Hum 2290 was the most used delay, and seemed to be all the way to Pop.
I listen to Danish Pete when it comes to Guitars Amplifiers & Pedals and his all round experience as a High Level Professional Gigging Guitarist . I listen to Lee for his experience in selling something .
Love you guy's, moving forward wake Digital John up next time to sit in. when it comes to the complicated world of digital, we need the younger generation to guide us Lmao!! Give me one button to push, lol. Have a Merry Christmas Gentlemen!
Whatever you throw at Pete, he will always sound good... because it's the fingers. (Which doesn't mean that I don't have a 2290p on my board by now, after selling my beloved 2290 to an actual dentist many years ago.)
I went stereo a long time ago with a Peavey Classic 50/50 head + 2 cabs and also a Peavey Classic Chorus 212. I have Blackstars now because, stereo. The ID260TVP is a beast of a combo and sounds absolutely massive. The little ID Core amps sound WAY bigger than they are. I also have a Spark 40. Again, stereo with a big, full, wide sound. I just can't get that in mono.
I just want to put it out there that you don't need two of the same amps for a stereo rig. If you put something like a Vox, with its laid back transient response on one side, and something tighter on the other, it will sound bigger.
FINALLY!! The TC Electronic 2290P Dynamic Digital Delay has to be AWESOME, because it's #Danish!!! #DanishPete ....Sooooo many buttons. HaHa Got the original TCE 2290 rack unit this year too.
What's the name of the second song Pete played in intro ? After Pink Floyd and before U2 ? EDIT: With help from a friend I found it -> Bryan Adams - Run to you
what i heared is, everytime you had the delay in stereo, it sounded more like out of phase than "real" stereo. that was the same when I tried the plugin years ago
I think if you’re going to go mono - you’ll need to disconnect one of the outputs on the box, it’s still thinking it’s stereo (not sure if you did that).
The “what would Gilmour do” question, I think based on his rigs over the years, he’d constantly look for innovation as long as it served the song. If he thought modeling served the song, he’d do it. I don’t think he has allegiance to gear.
Love watching you guys.. didn’t really understand this product.. why not buy a Valetron GP200 for roughly the same price and get a much better interactive experience and more choices? Maybe I’m missing something???? Let me know. I know it’s stereo.. but the sound on my tv/expensive sound bar didn’t impress me.. maybe i just don’t get it???
Stereo may or may not be feasible. But theoretically, it is feasible. Gilmour did it. If you don't or can't or won't do it, who's fault is that but yours ? I jam at home and not with a band, so stereo for me increases the quality of my life.
Guys guess what I think I have a varicocele because my left testicle has been a little sensitive for a few days now, isn't that neat? I don't think it's epididymitis because it's not outright painful but I still wish it would go back to normal
I always think, what actual guitar players actually bother to use/setup a stereo rig. Even for recording, how often do you need a stereo guitar sound lol
I personally think that this is the landmark of Anderton’s TV. If you want a pristine review, sterile and simple as that, the Web is full of “Pete Thorne-like” reviews, with deep respect to Pete Thorne…🤷🏻♂️
Whether the audience can hear it depends entirely on how the PA is setup. If you’re recording the show, people later can hear stereo, and so can you in your IEMs.
Completely incorrect, you can ping pong the delay to each side of the PA, most modern digital PA’s if ran correctly are in stereo and should be run in stereo, with something like this to run in stereo you would need a stereo guitar rig of some sort and then pan the signals and from a live setting you will most definitely hear it
Stereo guitar is where it's at. Jamming to my headphones had become one of my favorites things to do with the UAX pedal.
That guitar is totally stunning by the way. Well done Music Man and it does help to have Pete playing it :)
That's an excellent price for a modern version of an iconic piece of gear.
My TV is connected to my hifi and listening to this demo through the hifi speakers sounded amazing. Great sounds from this pedal and brought back many great listening memories of my teenage years.
The excitement that you two have is exactly why I will be buying one.
I was watching this on my mobile phone and at the time you told us to go and get our headphones, the sound was absolutely swinging from side to side. Thanks for confirming my phone is great 😂
my word the back and forth was amazing guys, loved the vid Pete as usual on fire.
thank you and have a good xmas.
8:00 Delicate Sound of Thunder Impact was massive. Couldn't believe when I first heard Yet Another Movie Live version in the 90s as a kid. Very cinematic.
That Musicman Luke is just amazing looking and a great guitar.
Best guitar and best sound so far. No tele no strat no lespaul. So happy for that moment.
Steve Rothery has been using one for decades as well.
I bought the plugin version when the price was hacked to bits on it from over 200 to just over 60 quid. Very very useful
Robert Fripp was another major user in the ‘90s, he used the long delays for Soundscapes (Frippertronics v2) along with Eventide H9000 Harmonizers.
He had them expanded to 64 seconds of delay. While I am happy that this has 10 seconds of delay I kinda wish it had more for really long delay washes.
At 12:39 it's actually hilarious and insane to see that many different settings at once.

amazing 80's 90's tones! not for me, but that music man axe is a stunner! great demoing by pete yet again
15:16 😂😂
When he hit the out of key note and it just kept repeating….softer and softer even when he moved on😂😂😂

Nice bit of hardware for a home studio!
TC Electronic makes some great pedals. But let’s be honest - that Ernie Ball Music Man - Steve Lukather stills the show!!! Great job Ernie Ball!!!
thats a rather handsome Lukather Signature.....

Tc electronic is a great pedal company. I’ve got a few and they’re great. Try the afterglow for the first Pink Floyd thing you did. It’s spot on.
Whatever you throw at Pete, he will always sound good... because it's the fingers. (Which doesn't mean that I don't have a 2290p on my board by now, after selling my beloved 2290 to an actual dentist many years ago.)
i can hear the stereo signal clearly through the monitors here, really clear , its like my own gear doing the ping pong delay. 😛

Is there a Robben Ford preset?
I just want to put it out there that you don't need two of the same amps for a stereo rig. If you put something like a Vox, with its laid back transient response on one side, and something tighter on the other, it will sound bigger.
Those plastic button caps make using two buttons with one foot doable FYI.
i would love if you guys compare it to the strymon volante. seems the two would put up a great competition!!
I saw Henning's video on this pedal
Seemed like the software wasn't quite finished yet
As Behringer own TC, and I have the plug in...is this simply the same software, in a hardware box?
Ohh that guitar...
Very nice, but how many delay pedals do I need lol
Did you ever demo the Ogre Kronomaster?
Sweet dreams was TOP GUN
To emulate Pink Floyd & U2’s stage rig is asking for a lot. I rely on Ric o Sound & twin combos. Not too shabby.
I have the plugin and it's totally awesome - so versatile. Does it have the original presets too?
FINALLY!! The TC Electronic 2290P Dynamic Digital Delay has to be AWESOME, because it's #Danish!!! #DanishPete
....Sooooo many buttons. HaHa Got the original TCE 2290 rack unit this year too.
How does the 2290 setting on the tc Flashback pedal compare?
I’m not being a smart ass. Well, sort of… 😏
18:00 - Thank you, Pete. You tried.
What's the name of the second song Pete played in intro ? After Pink Floyd and before U2 ?

Pretty sure Roads = Streets fellas. As in Where the Streets Have No Name. Knight Rider is cool though :)
what i heared is, everytime you had the delay in stereo, it sounded more like out of phase than "real" stereo. that was the same when I tried the plugin years ago
oh PS, did the roads patch mean randy roads guys?
Could'nt you record in stereo and listen to your playing via stereo studio monitors? One amp for mono practice and stereo in recording.
I think if you’re going to go mono - you’ll need to disconnect one of the outputs on the box, it’s still thinking it’s stereo (not sure if you did that).
i just love to know how to do all this things to an amp
"Inspiration is the key" . Yep. Let it lead.
TC Electronics! Bring the delay time to 20 seconde please
Could someone please tell me the song he plays at 0:17
Run to you by Bryan Adams
Even managed some Cocteau Twins tones, nice. Wish TC would swap those cheapo foortswitches for their pricier things though.
Do y'all think the TC Plethora can do all this already?
Please do a best amps of 2023 no price range
What exactly is Compact about it?
The “what would Gilmour do” question, I think based on his rigs over the years, he’d constantly look for innovation as long as it served the song. If he thought modeling served the song, he’d do it. I don’t think he has allegiance to gear.

Watch Leon Todd's run-thru of the 2290 (He has a couple vids on it) Way more indepth. Andertons do it no justice what-so ever.
My rig has been stereo for 10 years. Would never go back to mono.
Stereo cleans are awesome. I don't really care much for stereo OD tones. They just never work for me.
Stereo may or may not be feasible. But theoretically, it is feasible. Gilmour did it. If you don't or can't or won't do it, who's fault is that but yours ? I jam at home and not with a band, so stereo for me increases the quality of my life.

Seems like a great unit but pressing two buttons simultansously to move thruogh presets is bad, I mean really.
Roads... maybe too Cryptic... Streets... have no name... U2.
Ducking... Quake quack... Duck of deaf!!!! Quack!!! When playin poker, you don wanna play the ducks of deaf!!!
Turning off one amp and going mono You need to reset levels
Are you sure that's compact.
Your iPhone is stereo
Hard to hear what you say when you both talk (sometimes scream) at the same time. You get tiresome to listen to for more than ten minutes…
