I have been for following from the beginning, I really hope they sell the mella in the UK, but realistically I doubt it :( It's such a good display piece!
I love the improvements. Repositioning/design of the humidity unit is elegant, and eliminates the inevitable swamp in the earlier design........ Now I can't wait😎
I can't see why there cannot be TWO versions of the product: Small and Large ... or something like that .... In any event, .. it would be kinda cool to see a finalized MELLA unit fit into a dishwasher sized hole-out in a higher end home kitchen ' butler's pantry .. .JUST LIKE the Urban Cultivator unit for HERBS ...
What's up Tony? Been a while! I don't grow commercially anymore, but I miss growing them for fun. I just may have to buy this to get back into it thanks for sharing this brother!
I wonder what the use case would be for something like this. Its quite small. Anyone who starts growing immediately realizes they want/need more space so they can have an actual useable quantity of mushrooms for food or medicine. This looks like it would only be useful inside a lab running experiments with a single species for each grow box.
Hello there! I'm from Southamerica, Paraguay exactly, a place that can get hot like 110F ealisy. So I have designed some cooling system just using ice, basically a fan would blow the cool air around the ice and into the chamber, so you can get cold air and humidity. It is for indoor use and with AC. I'm growing some Agaricus Bisporus right now, 73F for growing and 60F for fruiting
Yeah, I live in Italy and this very day we have about 99 degrees Fahrenheit. In the last few years, during summer, it can easily go well above 100 degrees. So I was wondering about hot weather. How many times per day do you need to replace the ice?
I'm an electrical/mechanical engineer I gave up on waiting for something like this to Come to market....I just ordered all components to build a 8x 20liter tub setup with automatic humidity (reptile fogger) and temp control ( vented project box with thermoelectric coupler) even went as far as integrating variable bilge fans with arranged check valves to intermittently burp the system and remove lingering co2 during fruiting...
I think you should consider making a prototype to put on the market. There aren't many competitors and I think this would go great internationally for multiple types of mushroom growers. As an entrepreneur, if I had the knowledge to do it I would do it myself. Maybe seek partners and/or a crowdfunding platform to sponsor it.

Any update about what happened to this project? I saw it’s been moved to an open community project. I honestly think it was over priced, but was hoping that over time the price would be more palatable. Wondering if you had any other info as to why it was defunct. Maybe a good video topic
@@FreshCapMushrooms Agreed. Raspberry pi cameras come in at $35 retail. You've got the lights, you have the p, you have the power. On a 32GB SD card, that's lots of stop motion. I'd put that top of the list for enhancement since it's so cool it's a major selling point. Everyone who got one of the chambers would be spreading the videos far and wide. Cheap advertising.
Hey Tony, regarding light. Do the mushrooms do best with plain ambient light or LED? Also plz tell me what about red or blue lights? I have a set with many combinations of color spectrum. But, my understanding of the difference is basically zero :/ thx
now this is "mush" better than the first prototype, would be great for someone with disposable cash that needs a toy. I am sure that I can build a 5 shelf 4 foot W X 6 foot H X 19 inch D automated Martha Tent for cheaper.
You can make a drawer, like a manuscript or maps drawer, with 4 or 5 drawers that are 10 inches high each. Your substrate can be 5" and the caps 5". You'd just pull the drawers out to pick them. You'd need tubes for water and air. It can be fully computerized and automated.
Looks like they fixed a lot of the issues including using a sensor meant for high humidity (so you get the actual reading), but as clearly shown on the humidity reading this passive style of humidification can only reach around 75%, no matter how much you turn the fan up. They also continued to use a raspberry Pi, which is not the right controller for the job as clearly shown by all the cables (seriously, what a joke all these cables dangling are), and despite this still did not add a CO2 meter.... A dedicated incubator micro controller would not only be cheaper, it would be far more reliable and do a better job. The lights also seem to be an overkill and I suggest they will slowly build heat up in the chamber, not an issue if it is snowing but most places don't have snow all yeah round. I guess at least they are trying, a few more iterations and some Pi lockouts for users and I am sure they will sort out the last few issues.
What do you think about Shrooly? I really want a mushroom grower for beginners but don’t know where to invest. Their system seems different than this one
Damn kinda wish i knew about this before i spent a bunch of money on a grow tent martha setup only to realize growing that many mushrooms is a real hassle
Rreally awesome and will buy it for sure if I do not have to sell a kidney for it! BUT I have doubts regarding the amount of fresh air, seems very limited and I need a LOT for nice caps. Where is the fresh air coming from? is there an air flow from the inside to the outside? If there is a significant air outflow, I will have spores all over my kitchen after some time. I know it by experience after building my own shroom room.
@@FreshCapMushrooms not sure a $4 sensor would be classed as expensive, even the super accurate ones are only $22 and hook straight into the Pi. I think it is more of a case of the designers making something they don't understand, there are a number of things that shout this about the design including the fact the same environmental controls are used for other "incubation" design that overlap..
