    One quick tip: use distilled water for the humidifier, especially on an ultrasonic humidfier. The distilled water wont leave mineral deposits.

    This is how I began growing small fruiting blocks some years back!! This absolutely works, with a fan and opening a window once a day I had more tubs than I want to say growing lions mane and blue oysters rather well. This is also a great way to learn about environmental control small scale before taking the leap to a tent. I still use a few auto tubs for reishi to keep my tent full of fast fruiting species. The boom room 2 is also rather nice, just bought one for some breeding projects. Have to say im impressed with everything I have bought from north spore, great company

    Use a hot nail to make small holes. Drilling can easily create cracks in the plastic. Running the hole saw backward is a neat trick, and again, you can create the pilot holes with a hot nail.

    Great idea, I built a similar set up although without humidity control and it works great as a small size hobby frutting chamber, even for oyster mushroom. I would be cool to used in classrooms so kids can see the growth every day at school :)

    nice tip with the computer fan. bought one, rigged it to a transformer, and hooked it onto one of the holes in my monotub. if it doesnt come with a filter, just use flyscreen :)
    now its also controlled by alexa.
    Some happy harvests coming! thanks!

    Filter patches but … isn’t the fan blowing contaminated air over the substrate?

    • @maxst8831
      @maxst8831 5 месяцев назад +4

      if its negative pressure pulling air into the tub through the filters then its fine, not sure how long the fan will last with high moisture air though

    • @kaesh831
      @kaesh831 4 месяца назад +4

      The filter patches help contain moisture inside the box more than it does to keep contamination out. The blocks you'd put in a fruiting chamber are fully colonized so they aren't as prone to contamination as they are during their colonizing period.

    • @NorthSpore
      @NorthSpore  4 месяца назад +24

      You aren't supposed to add the fan and humidifier until the tub is fully colonized. At that point, the substrate is very resistant to contamination and doesn't require the same level of cleanliness.

    Just wanting to confirm, the FAE is pushing air out of the bin? Is the micro filter micron small enough to capture spores? or vis versa catching contaminates? Or is that not a concern?
    Very helpful video, thank you.

    • @NorthSpore
      @NorthSpore  Месяц назад +1

      Yes the fan should be pushing air out of your bin. An yes, these filters are incredibly effective at capturing the vast majority of spores. It’s definitely a concern, which is why they are used. By having these filters in place, you can ensure proper air exchange while limiting any particles from entering (or exiting) at the same time 🙂

      At 3:39 you stated the FAE should be blowing air into the tub, not out of it. @NorthSpore

    Hello, thx for video! I have a question: on your website its said in the manual that fan should pull the air from monotub and not inside. CO2 is heavier and I discovered when pulling the air out the fan simply can't do it, because there is not a lot of negative pressure occurs (a lot of holes in the monotub itself + its not completely vacuum sealed) and a lot of CO2 sits in the tub. On the other side, when fan is blowing inside the monotub my PF tek surface goes dry sometimes when cycles are often (1 per hour) and not a lot of pins forms, but CO2 level is significally lower. What do you recommend please?

    • @NorthSpore
      @NorthSpore  18 часов назад

      This is a great question and it can be a tough balance! First off, this will all depend in part on what you’re growing and what your ambient conditions are. Negative and positive pressure setups can both work fine, but we prefer the positive pressure (opposite from the BoomRoom II) so that spores are isolated a bit better and not pushed through the fan. I think the drying you are seeing means that you might want a higher humidity range to keep humidity around 90%. Along with lowering fan speed and/or lengthening time between cycles (and cycle duration), you should have less drying and more pinning 👍

    How long should the fan be on vrs off

    • @NorthSpore
      @NorthSpore  Месяц назад +1

      That depends on the CO2 parameters necessary for the species you are growing - but you could always start with it on constantly and then adjust from there 🙂

    Quick question! It’s grow time in my monotub and I have your full kit with the humidifier and the fan. I’m keeping my humidity set at 80-90%.
    Thing I’m wondering about is the fan. Do I leave it on non stop? I don’t don’t have a timer for the fan so I don’t know what’s recommended for setting it? Just leave it on 24/7? Help please!?

    • @NorthSpore
      @NorthSpore  2 месяца назад

      It depends on your overall settings, your environment, and the species you are growing. I'd recommend starting with it on continuously and adjust from there 🙂

      @@NorthSpore how do we know how fast to run the fan? Do we want minimal air exchange by only running the fan when the humidifier kicks on? Or do we want the fan running pumping air and the humidifier to be running almost constantly? Or cycling on and off every couple minutes?

      You make a very valid point, however monotubs are most often associated with growing a single species of mushrooms. We've designed our tub to be compatible with many different species, particularly species that are very sensitive to CO2, like oyster mushrooms.
