Don’t know if anyone else is interested, but I’d like to know a little bit of history to your property. Even as overgrown as it was you were able to vision a future! 😊. I wonder how many people just thought it ugly & too much work?🤔 Whatever you decide you’ve got me hooked now lolol. 👵🏻👩🌾❣️😊
Sure! At one time it was a place where they raised racing champion thoroughbreds. It was also a tree and plant nursery. I don't know which it was first, or if they were ever in operation at the same time.
@@livingon80 Thank you 😊. I’m sure it was a beautiful place & to see that kind of horse grazing around. And a perfect place to raise trees. I’m so glad you decided to take on such a major project for your homestead. Would be really nice if you could find a picture or two of past living. Love watching as you clear & put your own style on it. 👵🏻👩🌾❣️
love those red barns. i live in uk. we dont see much red barns like that. i would keep it. subscribed today. love what you are doing with the place. very beautiful place.
Tare down the Grey barn. Keep the red one. Use the wood for flooring. You will need some wood working equipment to skin the wood to make beautiful floors.
A ton of character in the red barn. Couple that with all that paved parking area and the possibilities are amazing. Wedding venue, restaurant, plant nursery, All it needs is money and time. How much you are willing to spend on both determines whether to keep it or not.
I think it will be coming down. Too far gone. A wood shop would be fun! Theres a ton of Maples on the property. Maybe I could turn some baseball bats 😁
New to your channel , Your red barn needs a lot less than trying to build a new one , I would start on the roof to dry it in and go from there , good luck
Just happened on your channel with the land clearing video, wow, y'all have your work cut out. Pun intended? 😜 3:20 With the price of lumber, might cost more to rebuild, maybe something to consider? Maybe pull off the siding so can better inspect? Agree if more then one or two posts are rotted, has to come down due to being unsafe. Hope this helps. Did the door hinges on the red barn pull out?
You could take the barn down and save the wood for other building and projects…Possibly build another smaller building on part of the pad…S mallet build for equipment storage
Had another thought about the Red Barn. It’s an iconic structure on a rural property. I think otherwise the decision to demo it would be easier. But when you mentioned a basketball court or skateboard area for your children I got to thinking. Reno the facade. That’s the part you’d like to keep. Then just go back 6-8 feet, maybe only one story - keep the full facade like the false second story facades on old western buildings - and make it a playhouse and/or sports equipment, garden furniture storage area and/or workshop for yourself.
Maybe save some of the barn that has solid bones. Use the sections that is dismantled for the saved portion. And use those cinder blocks for a short foundation wall to redo the little horse feed sheds.
Have you thought about water harvesting? You have lots of roofs. Glad to hear you will save the wood as much as you can, that’s awesome. Hope your sons baseball game was a good time.
That would be neat, but I'm afraid its too far gone as it sits now. As soon as we get some time we will look at it again and make a decision. Thanks and take care!
I went back and forth on reskinning the whole building but some of the posts are starting to rot so I think it's goimg to come down. Making it a venue was something Allison was wanting to do, but I think it may be too far gone. Thanks for watching!
I believe I would tear it down, by dismantling it there is a lot of good lumber in there. Plus when it’s gone you will haves concrete pad to build on. A plow shed would be nice there to store the saved lumber and equipment storage.
Personally I would tack a section out of the siding in the worst part say around the poll that is rotted off at the bottom then see what you have, then strip some siding off the best part of the red barn and see what you have then decided what to do then price thing's up, you have the equipment to tack it down or you hav3 the expense of the rebuild witch is going to cost, but definitely save all the oak bords ((possible)) they are some beautiful timber.
Reclaiim the wood, you'll be money ahead. If the trusses are good, save em and wrap them in cheap plastic tarping. Demo the red barn, it'll be a money pit as the skeleton isn't up to par anyway. You said it, you don't need it, demo.
Tear it down and reuse the wood for any repairs you need to do. You could sell a lot of the wood also. I believe you could make some good money to fund other projects.
Take down the red barn before Mother Nature does it for you! Storms are getting ridiculous! It would be a different story if you needed it and would have to replace it. Then a reno could make sense. You have so many other structures that need work and future maintenance. Save everything you can and, as Elsa says, Let it go!
depending on how far t is from the street, hab it up and make it rentable for use as a small venue for weddings, small bbqs, frmers market or whatever.
What to do with the red barn?.... hmmm. This building is at the end of its natural life. I say take it down. The slab foundation is good, so rebuilding should not be a problem...given you have the money to do it. I think you could monetize a new red barn by creating a wedding venue, as Allison suggested. Some of the trusses might be ok to use in the new barn.

Absolutely love this! Congratulations well done
Thank you so much!!
Loved the big red barn since the first video
Big red barn is awesome, so much character, but I'm afraid its too far gone. Thanks for watching!
love those red barns. i live in uk. we dont see much red barns like that. i would keep it. subscribed today. love what you are doing with the place. very beautiful place.
Thank you!
Yes, Reduce, reuse and recycle, if you can fix it up, I think it would great.
It would be a perfect spot for that, but i think the barn is too far gone. Maybe another building can go there later though!
Pull down huge jobs. Thanks
Keep it or tear it down that size building would be a great wood working shop. If you don't already have one. Great vid keep 'em coming.
I think it will be coming down. Too far gone. A wood shop would be fun! Theres a ton of Maples on the property. Maybe I could turn some baseball bats 😁
Yes, great videos.
Satisfying watching you clean up the property. What state are you in?
Thanks for watching! We are in Indiana.
New to your channel , Your red barn needs a lot less than trying to build a new one , I would start on the roof to dry it in and go from there , good luck
Good suggestion, thanks Eugene!

Did the door hinges on the red barn pull out?
Yeah, the red barn is pretty rough. Good idea to check more of the posts after taking some siding off. Thanks for watching!
You could take the barn down and save the wood for other building and projects…Possibly build another smaller building on part of the pad…S mallet build for equipment storage
There is a lot of wood to be reused for sure! Thanks for watching!

Keep it
Red barn has to go. It sounds like you could put up another building for what it would cost to rehab. Then you could plan to do the rental venue.
100%
I’d at least like to see what material can be reused.
This comment.
I would save whatever you can. There is always a use for another building, as the farm continues to come back to life. Onward!
Agreed, lots of good materials inside! Thanks!
Maybe save some of the barn that has solid bones. Use the sections that is dismantled for the saved portion. And use those cinder blocks for a short foundation wall to redo the little horse feed sheds.
Thanks!!
Demo the Red Barn,, too much money to rehab
I think that is the route we are going to go. Thanks for watching!
I agree way too much time and money forb what your return is
The red barn would make a lovely pavilion if the structure is sound and the floor is in good shape.
The floor seems OK but the structure is questionable! Thank you!
Keep the lovely oak boards , demolish the red barn , put up a smaller workshop in its stead
👍🏴
Definitely going to try to save as much of the oak boards as possible!
youve got enough barns. patch up the ok ones and tear down the crappy ones
❤
Thank you!
Have you thought about water harvesting? You have lots of roofs. Glad to hear you will save the wood as much as you can, that’s awesome. Hope your sons baseball game was a good time.
I haven't thought about water harvesting but I like the idea of that. Thanks for the suggestion!
Restore the red shed and use it as accommodation for dude ranch visitors, it should take about 12 people if it is set up nicely.
That would be neat, but I'm afraid its too far gone as it sits now. As soon as we get some time we will look at it again and make a decision. Thanks and take care!
Looks like a tear down
It likely will happen!
Demo for sure & keep all the good wood.
I think that's what the plan will be!
The red barn could be resided, etc, and in the future, you could make it a place to rent for Weddings, etc. Just an idea.
I went back and forth on reskinning the whole building but some of the posts are starting to rot so I think it's goimg to come down. Making it a venue was something Allison was wanting to do, but I think it may be too far gone. Thanks for watching!
@@livingon80 as long as it’s safe.
Save the barn wood , to use on future projects and take down that mess of a barn, too much money to spend. 👍
We are thinking that might be the our best option. Thank you for your suggestions! 💗 Allison
I believe I would tear it down, by dismantling it there is a lot of good lumber in there. Plus when it’s gone you will haves concrete pad to build on. A plow shed would be nice there to store the saved lumber and equipment storage.
Thank you!
Where is this farm located ? anyone ?
Indiana, USA
Personally I would tack a section out of the siding in the worst part say around the poll that is rotted off at the bottom then see what you have, then strip some siding off the best part of the red barn and see what you have then decided what to do then price thing's up, you have the equipment to tack it down or you hav3 the expense of the rebuild witch is going to cost, but definitely save all the oak bords ((possible)) they are some beautiful timber.
Sounds like a smart plan of attack, thank you!
Greenhouse?
Great idea! I'd love one! 💗Allison
Red needs to go. Try to repurpose or donate some of it. Looks like the windows can be reused.
Great idea about donating. I may do that if they come out cleanly and aren't too far gone. Thank you!
make a bar/ gathering place from the red barn
Good idea!
Keep it and restore it.
Thanks for your suggestion!
Demo the red barn, salvage the wood for a new structure.
I think that's what the plan is going to be. Thanks!
tear it down, save as much wood as possible
Good plan! Thanks!
Red shed? (I am Australian, we call them sheds😂) Pull it down, you have no shortage of shed storage
We call them sheds too! 😁
Demo , the local fire department would probably enjoy the training. Experience says it will turn endless money pit.
Good idea. I may call them!
Take it down, save all the good lumber...
Hopefully we will be doing that soon!
Needs to go but save as much wood as you can
For sure! Thank you!
Salvage what you can and tear it down. Concrete pad, lots of options.
100%
Get rid of the red barn.
I think will be the plan. Thank you!
Reclaiim the wood, you'll be money ahead. If the trusses are good, save em and wrap them in cheap plastic tarping. Demo the red barn, it'll be a money pit as the skeleton isn't up to par anyway. You said it, you don't need it, demo.
Solid advice. Didn't know about wrapping trusses. Thank you!
If you don’t need it, Scrap it out!
100%
Tear the red barn down!
I think that's what we're going to do. It's on the to-do list. Thanks for the suggestion!
Tear the barn down. Thats a lot of salvage material.
Thanks for the suggestion!
Salvage some wood but Take The building down,
100%
Tear it down and reuse the wood for any repairs you need to do. You could sell a lot of the wood also. I believe you could make some good money to fund other projects.
Thank you for the suggestions!
Too many out buildings needing repairs. Red barn has to go. 50k to fix it no way. It would be break even fix, at best.
Spot on!
Take down the red barn before Mother Nature does it for you! Storms are getting ridiculous!
It would be a different story if you needed it and would have to replace it. Then a reno could make sense. You have so many other structures that need work and future maintenance. Save everything you can and, as Elsa says, Let it go!
Elsa part made me laugh 🤣
Thx, for what it’s worth, restore
Thanks for the suggestion John!
I would lose an inch or two on your boards By cutting them save time and money
I may do that. Those boards are the only thing keeping me from knocking the red barn down! Thanks for the suggestion!
depending on how far t is from the street, hab it up and make it rentable for use as a small venue for weddings, small bbqs, frmers market or whatever.
It would be a good spot for that, but I think the building is gone. Maybe another building there someday. It's a good idea! Thank you!

Tear it down. To dangerous to work on.
Thanks for your suggestion!
