Living On 80
США
Добавлен 11 мар 2023
This is the beginning of our TWO YEAR and counting journey to restore a once beautiful 80 acres property to the beautiful place it once was.
I wanted to film our progress and get better at video editing, so I figured we would share with everyone, in case anyone else finds this as interesting as I do.
We're still cleaning the property, clearing brush, working on buildings, and getting the house in a livable condition.
Our goal is to be Living On 80 Acres full time soon and is the motivation for us to keep working hard on this land.
If you like tractors, mowers, chainsaws, equipment maintenance, repairs, fun and family then please subscribe!

Finding a Dead 9-Point Buck in Our Pond: What Happened?
In this video, we head out to our back pond to recover a dead 9-point buck that was in the water. With no obvious signs of injury, its passing raises more questions than answers. Watch as we use a chainsaw to clear a path on the pond dam and use a winch to bring the buck out of the water. Join us in this somber but necessary task as we explore the circumstances surrounding this unfortunate find.

In this video we diagnose and replace a faulty PTO Solenoid that was causing the PTO on my Kioti tractor to spin intermittently and then finally caused it to stop spinning altogether. The dealer told me that all they could do was sell me the entire assembly which was $1600. I was able to find the solenoid on Amazon for less than $12. I am not bashing the dealer, they have always been great to m...

In this video I use the Bobcat Forestry Mulcher to mow down years of growth on the Southeast end of the property. I'm hoping to make a nice trail around the entirety of the property that will be good for ATV rides and also act as a firebreak since we have hundreds of acres surrounding the South of the property. Then I talk about replacing the belts that decided to burn off the Bobcat Forestry Mulcher. The belts that were on the mu...

So i know this is an old video bit it just popped up.in my feed. Reading through comments I seen you are in Indiana. With a property that abandoned did you have a brown recluse issue? If so how did you or currently dealing with it. We are looking at a farm in Tennessee thats been vacant for a bunch of years and it has brown recluse in house and copperheads on Property. My wife is terrified of both, more so the spiders because they are in the house.
We haven't really seen many at all, but they are definitely all around us here in Indiana.
Does this help from it deflating and collapsing? Mine started deforming
I'm a short timer on the excavator as well and I am doing the same thing you are. I inherited the family farm in the last couple years and I'm cleaning up falling down buildings and all the extra growth everywhere. I kidded my Dad for years that he lived on a sleeping beauty farm it was so thick. I have not been able to walk the farm like a did when I was a kid for 40 years. But cleaning things up like you/we are by hand is a hell of a deal and being a senior, without machines, I'd be out of luck. I have maybe 15 hrs on it. Mine is maybe a bit big, bobcat E85 it's 19,000 lbs, but I got it at a good price and it makes short work of up to 40' trees. Larger ones take a couple of minutes. Anyway that thumb is there to use and the difference is the same as us trying to eat without using our own thumbs. I got a 4 tine thumb so it fits perfectly on my 5 tooth bucket and grabs brush and crud like nobody's business. I too watch the guys on the machines on youtube, it's great to have teachers. I've started at the house and am working my way out. It's scary how strong and fast that thing is. I can rip out material in 20-30 mins that will take hours and sometimes days to clear with the skidsteer. It's very satisfying to see the place come to life again. I too am surrounded with wildlife, the deer and turkeys come within 15' of the house almost daily and have little fear. Good for you. I wish I was at my place more so I could have some critters around like goats, cows and maybe a work horse. My Dad knew of my plans and mentioned a few times that I'd never get my money back from the investment in the equipment, I beg to differ. Some of the return is carrying the torch on, on a place that's been in the family 150 years. There is no $ amount one can put on that, plus it's great fun to play with the machines. My only other word of advise is "3 points of contact" when getting in and out/off the machines and ladders too for that matter. The farm is a dangerous place.
How did you find your property? I am interested in aquireing a tract like yours. Did you use a broker, read ads what?
Sweat equity beyond comprehension. Guess when Mom and Dad were gone, the adult kids were too far away to care. Hope you got it for a steal!
Mantap sekali bisa buat camping....salam kenal dar Indonesia 🇮🇩🇮🇩🙏🙏
That’s where the slave stayed,!!
I was taught that the black lead is “first on, last off”.
At least you have a woman who can follow directions. TREAT HER WELL!
That's so much fun!
Can you show us a video on changing/sharpening the blades on the slasher?
With all the tracks/fire breaks you have made, you might be better using fire as a method to clear the brush. Low heat fires would take care of much of what you are using time and diesel on clearing. I love a good clearing video. :)
I know I’m Australian but I am really interested in native habitat rejuvenation. I watch “the native habitat project” and I’m sure I recognised some prairie natives in the stuff you were ‘slashing’ as we call it here in Australia. If you have the space and interest you might consider working to bring back some really endangered ecosystems…. www.in.gov/dnr/nature-preserves/indiana-prairie/
Sift through the dirt underneath the building and you will probably find some dating or ownership evidence dropped through the cracks. Definitely a great place to restore. (Take out that newish room tho!)
I recently found your channel and like your videos. I liked the way you trimmed under the trees, it gives you a park like feel, and you can see through the trees. Blessings to you and your family.
It's bloating, so nothing's pierced the hide. Not a hunter.
Good point. What do you think would have caused the bleeding in its mouth and under its armpit?
@@livingon80 A big boar?
EHD. During droughts, a gnat the breeds only in new dried up mud flats, spreads a disease that kills. It messes with a deer where it makes them thirsty and they die near water. The gnats cycle then repeats.
DNR said today that in Northern Indiana (we are in Southern) there have been a lot of reports of EHD but I am waiting for them to get back with me after I sent them pictures.
Could also be a road collision with heavy internal bleeding.
That's definitely a possibility too! Thank you.
Hopefully it's not what went through here in SE Nebraska back in 2011-12. Some gnat carried a sickness that wiped out ~60% of the herd. It gave them a fever that they sought out water to lie in to cool down but never left. SO many carcasses found in ponds & lakes.
That sounds terrible! With the blood under its armpit, I'm thinking it was wounded by a hunter. What you described sounds like Blue Tongue. I've heard they seek out water with it. Thanks for watching and commenting. Take care!
😟😢
I know...i hate it too. Thank you for watching

My cousin who is a deer hunter said he thinks he saw a cut on the deer in the video. What do you think? Was this a bad shot from a hunter? Let me know what you think down below. I'll post an update comment with what the DNR says. Thanks for watching!
I’m glad I’m not the only one who saw those wires and thought at first they were backwards.
Perfect your living my dream thanks for sharing !

Goats needed to help take control
We have 5 goats and 2 sheep right now. We plan to keep adding more, MANY more, but we are new to having them and didn't want to get in over our heads. Thanks!
It has a 3 year warranty. Take it back for a replacement.
Thank you for letting us know there is a 3 year warranty! I've used Ryobi warranty before on a 40V battery and they were great to deal with.
Great job
Thank you!
Just happened across your channel today, I must say for me to sit and watch 2 hours worth of videos says that I am enjoying your channel so I have subscribed. I watched the one video where you did a complete service on the Kioti tractor. I would like to make 1 suggestion if I may, it is a suggestion and nothing you are doing incorrect. I am 66years old and back in tho 70’s when I learned to work on semi’s I was taught to always jack up the front axle when lubing the king pins, that way you would not build up pressure on the seals and blow them out, this way the pins, bushing, and bearings would retain grease longer. Again it is just a suggestion and not saying you were doing anything wrong. Thank you for keeping this old man entertained.
Thanks for watching and I appreciate the tip on jacking it up. It makes sense! Thank you, and take care!
wow what a difference great job!
Thank you!
lots of tasty deer...self sufficent..
Im cleanig out fence rows right now. I rented a mini x. Cause thats what everyone suggested. It was slow going. Found and old backhoe for sale up the road. Bought it and have never thought about the mini again. I put the front bucket on the ground and go. Find something big. Turn around and dig it out. Backhoe has been so much faster than the mini x. Edit. I building cattle pastures tho. So im taking brush and everything. To the dirt. Pushing it in piles and burning it.
So you used it like a dozer? Interesting! I can see that working well. Thanks for the tip!
@@livingon80 It does. And you can push some pretty big trees down with just the front bucket. Push high. Get it leaning. And get that bucket under them roots. When you put your fence back up. Check with your state. Some states have requirements for livestock fence. I'm using barbed wire for cattle. And my states requirements is 5 strands.
@@davidtipton7234 thats great info, thank you!
I used to move mine around in a fence like that every summer. A couple summers ago. I said screw it. And just opened the gate and let em go. They are like chickens. They go out in the morning. Graze the woods and grass all day. And go right back in their pen at night.
That would be so nice to be able to trust them to do that! Did you have some kind of perimeter fence? If not, how did you keep them away from neighbors plants and predators?
@@livingon80 my neighbors are pretty far off. I'm kinda lucky in that. But they don't wander very far at all. I do have a perimeter fence. But I have most of it down replacing it. And the goats pretty much rule the yard. They'll get in with my cows and bully them. I've have an older doe that beats up on my dogs every chance she gets. I do lock em in the pen at night. But like I said. When the sun starts going down they go right in there. I just go close the gate. And open it back up the next morning. They prefer the bushes and wooded areas. I have alot of that.
We were remodeling a hore ranch in Fla and it had this stuff.. The only thing I had was a weed eater.. A real nightmare...
@@garyjones2582 that doesn't sound like fun. It gets thick, sometimes it almost looks like corn growing! 😁
I've learned not to mow pastures until all the leaves are off the trees, otherwise it won't look like you mowed in a month.
You are 100% right. Especially the Johnson grass, it shoots up like nothing I've ever seen. Sometimes I will mow to keep things from getting to a seed head, but I have so much to mow here, I start early (September). We've had a big drought too so things have kinda stunted on growth (until it rains). Thanks!
I really love watching this vlog❤️ keep updating
Thank you so much!!
