I was born and raised in Seattle. I used to do graffiti on these exact streets every single night from about 11pm until the sun came up. This was in the 1990's, 3rd Ave has ALWAYS been like this. Since at least the 90's. Always drugs, always homeless. It has definitely gotten worse, that's from policies that decriminalize public drug use, allow homeless to camp on sidewalks, mass influx of population in the two thousand teens (Seattle population had record new citizens 3 years in a row, population grew by about 40%) and policies that supported homeless with money and support that caused a mass influx of homeless with drug problems. This is the same thing you see in Portland, SF and LA for the same exact reason. Nobody was successful and became homeless from a temporary struggle. That guy claiming 3rd Ave was safe in 2008? LOL. 2007 and 2008 were two of the most violent years on record in downtown Seattle up until that point. Most homicides in one year ever in Seattle. Tons of robberies and assaults those years. Lack of police, lack of enforcement and extremely tolerant government policies is the reason for what Seattle currently is.

That's what I was thinking. I first moved to Seattle in 1997 and lived on 3rd and Blanchard where the Art institute dorms use to be. Downtown has been a homeless drug mess since I moved there, and it can go as far back as the 70s from what I've heard. 3rd and Pike is the major hub for mass transit there. I do feel like it's gradually got a lot worse. Since fentanyl has reared its ugly head it's become far worse in the last 10 years. @@eric6345 I love our state. I'm in University Place, (Tacoma,by Narrows Bridge) but love to catch ferry to Seattle, from Bremerton and eat y'all's fish and chips! EVERYTIME anyone comes from out of town, or country, I share that memory with them first!
Dang I work in downtown Seattle. Could have hooked you up with free parking everywhere and recommendations on where to go. Reach out if you come back. I'm a big traveler and try to spend as much time away from downtown as I can.
As someone from Seattle, yeah the cost of living has skyrocketed, especially with the cost of groceries rising recently, I have friends who can barely afford groceries, and they have decent jobs. The other thing that aggravates thins is that there are a lot of services for the homeless in downtown, like soup kitchens, and lots of hospitals as well, so when people become homeless they flock there. However the homeless shelters often only allow one backpack worth of stuff (so the'd have to get rid of all of their belongings) and don't allow pets, and you have to basically sleep on the floor in close proximity next to another person who could be a creep or a criminal or something, so most people choose to sleep outside in a tent where it's relatively safer. Also as mental health facilities outside of the city get shut down, people come to Seattle for healthcare and then get stranded. It's a complicated situation. The cost of living and covid put people on the streets, then some fall victim to drugs or violence. Then the homeless say there because there are some services that help take care of them that don't exist elsewhere. But even with the help most can't get a job that pays them enough to afford housing and stability. And once someone is homeless for a long time, no matter who they were before or how hard they tried to get out of their situation, eventually it wears people down to the point where they can't get out themselves; learned helplessness. Also as a native though I have to say that Bellevue and Kirkland are NOT Seattle. You should have gone to West Seattle!!! Also Ballard and Fremont and Capitol Hill. There's some really beautiful and interesting neighborhoods in Seattle, with better food and culture. It's unfortunate that you saw so little, a part of the reason I think is that our "downtown" area isn't like the downtown in most cities; it's the financial/business district, there's not much going on there it's just where people work, and where tourists go. But newcomers often think that downtown would be the best most interesting place to be.
Wow, good to see you in Seattle. You’re a long ways from all the interesting places you’ve been to. Yes, other than the Pike Place Market, Seattle has nothing to offer tourists - and locals, anymore. And that’s not saying much. Like most big cities, it’s changed for the worse. I moved up here in the 90’s and lived downtown, worked downtown - absolutely loved living downtown for a few years before moving over to Kirkland. Your video, showing what has become of downtown Seattle, is sad and depressing. Seattle was NEVER like that. It was a thriving, fun… great city to both work and live in. Walking from Queen Anne to Pioneer Square to Capitol Hill, all over the city, was always safe and fun when hanging out with friends. The bar and music scene, great restaurant scene, was thriving. But wow, your video shows a shell of a city. Completely depressing… times sure have changed. Without getting too political, Seattle is now, just like every other major city in this country - a cesspool. Drug addicts, homelessness, crime everywhere, cost of living, useless corrupt politicians who don’t do a thing but steal money and commit crimes themselves… zero answers to alleviate the glaring issues of their cities. The list can go on and on… but yes, realistically, it all starts at the top. This country’s leadership is beyond atrocious, beyond failing. Whichever party it is, they’re destroying this country. And it’s showing everywhere on our streets. There are many factors in play, but you see this crap in every city now. The clear results of horrible leadership - from political leadership to parenting in the home. It’s too bad you weren’t here in Seattle 20-25 years ago, lol, probably weren’t even born yet. Just know that Seattle used to be a great city to live in.
I visited Seattle in Sept. 2023. as my Son is stationed (Navy)across the Sound Poulsbro? anyway, I was there a week. Being from South Texas, San Antonio, It was a nice change of scenery. We don't have the Diversity of Seattle. It was nice to see other races, mostly Asian, India, etc. We are mostly Hispanic here in South Texas (Mexican Heritage) although, I did meet and speak to a few hispanics working in the Hotel from Colombia and Mexico. I visited the Pikes Place, Seattle Space Needle, rode the Light rail, and Monorail walked downtown by 3rd street saw the Zombies etc. I found the weather very nice, everything was Green, lush, a very expensive city. Would I like to live there? no, but it was a interesting place to visit for a week., people were friendly for the most part.
I appreciate the fact that he says "Brother", instead of bro. Bro stands for bend right over. Any one to lazy to look you right in the eye and call you brother will get you in the end .bro
I'm from Seattle. You can find crime, homelessness, and drug usage in any urban city, it's not unique to just Seattle. Are there places that i wouldn't want to travel in Seattle at night? Sure, but the same can be said for a lot of cities.
Man no lie that Clam Chowder looks really delicious i like that and that Salmon fish and chips hot and fresh too great video in Seattle Washington man enjoyed it first time watching your channel its awesome good stuff there
Nice video of the market and it was good of you to shed a light on the problems at 3rd and Pike, but Seattle is so much more than the sliver you showed. The neighborhoods of Seattle is what makes Seattle, so I hope you got to visit Belltown, Queen Anne, Ballard, Wallingford, Fremont, Columbia City, Capital Hill, Beacon Hill and the University District. Downtown is cool but the neighborhoods, parks, restaurants and breweries is what makes Seattle great in my opinion.
@Volpe *And that's why Costco's brand is "Kirkland" as that was where their headquarters were as they also started in this area as well as Microsoft, Amazon, Starbucks and Boeing.* 21:48
My husband is a bus driver In Seattle ! I worry about him all the time ! He's had death threats as some have Mental health issues , a lot of people get high on fentanyl on the bus which has made him sick as well as other drivers , people have OD on the bus! It's just sad
Kirkland in the summerbtime when I was a kid was a vibe.. it was crazy there from 8pm to 3 am during the summer.. friends having boats at 18-19 years old.. vipers ferraris just kicking it there at that little water front in Kirkland and on the main street a block up lake Washington Blvd
It was actually much worse about a year ago , however when you are in pikes market stop by mee sums bakery and get a bbq pork hum bow, every time I go to Seattle I have to stop
as someone who has lived downtown Seattle for nearly the last 20 years, I always feel safer in many of the foreign countries where I'm told it's "sketchy" or "unsafe" (especially Latin America where are a lot of your videos are filmed) than I do walking around 3rd Ave; especially early mornings
I thought that was for the whole fish. I had to go rewatch that part. F'n crazy! I get a slab of Columbia River steelhead for $11, whole fish for $22-25 in Olympia, WA, the Capital of Washington State.
I've lived in Seattle for 44 years. There are pockets of areas that are really bad especially in downtown Seattle. Most of the surrounding neighborhoods are clean and very expensive to live in. Kirkland is one of the better managed cities. Most homes in these neighborhoods are unaffordable unless you're making over a shit ton of money.
This basically sums up all major American cities. The affordability level differs from city to city, but the concept is the same. Many Americans will call an entire major city a "shit hole" because the news portrays it this way. In reality, it's only a small percentage of the city as a whole. I love how the people who have these opinions live nowhere near or have never even been to these cities. There opinions are solely based off a few short segments they've seen on the news or twitter.
@@The_El_Guapo Agreed. Crime, poverty, and drug use is not unique to just Seattle. You can find these elements in any major urban city, even in cities down in South America where most of his videos have been made.
It’s crazy because this was one of my dream cities but as I am coming of age I can only hope that within 10 or so years the city is back to being less chatoic in time. Funnily enough I’ve been more interested in Detroit because of its recent up comings and it’s “promising” future.
Dude you didn't even go to the bad areas. You could do an entire series travelling up the West Coast from L.A. to Oakland/SF, Portland, Seattle and Vancouver, BC. It keeps getting worse and the world wants and needs to see it. Your channel would blow up.
Seems Starbucks has closed that "Number 1" location in your opening a couple of days ago(early August). They removed the logos , so some question if they'll be back or not.
Don’t go to pioneer square it’s definitely a zombie apocalypse, we went to Seattle for Christmas 2022, we got off the underground train took the escalator up to ground level and turned around and went back down to the train it was so bad kind of like Hastings street in Vancouver Canada where I’m from.
Austin TX is like that with the homeless, housing and traffic is horrible...I bet 10 years more nd it will be as expensive like Seattle with all the development they doing or might be already is in travis County... but in County's up north atx mortgage and rent is really pricey.
When you said “Zombie land” I wasn’t sure what to expect, but holy shit..that’s some serious problems. They looked legit like zombies, absolutely horrible situation!
I am a northwest native and visit Seattle and Portland regularly. You have hit the underbelly of Seattle. Seattle and Portland OR are holmeless centers for the Northwest. Wish you would go back to South America or Europe!
Except y'all got taxes on your income.....whereas Seattle & Washington has 0 income tax (also 0 taxes on groceries there). Tax is terrible for Portlands "high earners" ($125k a year or more) it's the 2nd highest income tax for "high earners" in the USA only beat by New York City, the difference is, in NYC a "high earner" is classified as $25,000,000 ( *_MILLION_* ) a year.....whereas Portlands "high earner" is only just $125,000 a year. I ain't saying that makes Seattle better with taxes overall. But y'all in Oregon be acting like you different from the rest us and ain't getting taxed wayyy too much too. But you are getting taxed a lot. Don't let no sales tax fool you. No sales tax is perfect for tourism though. 😃👍. Whereas with Seattle the no income tax and no grocery tax ONLY benefits the local people who _*actually *_ live there, NOT tourists. I guess it's a choice between: choosing to profit off taxing tourists visiting (has sales tax, but no income tax & no tax on groceries - Washington) VS. taxing your own local people living there so that the tourists don't have to pay a tax. (No sales tax, but has income tax - Oregon). One system benefits the tourists, the other system let's the locals benefit from the tourists. If Washington had no sales tax, then it would not be able to have no income tax. Because all the tourists paying sales tax provides much of the tax revenue needed for locals to have 0 income tax. All in all though, Oregon is very very far from the worst state when it comes to taxes 👍. Don't take my comment as hate.
That's my hometown. There's always been crazies, drug dealers, crackheads, hookers, etc. hanging around 3rd & Pike and surrounding. That was called "The Blade" back in the 80's. Volpe: Look up the 1984 documentary called, "Streetwise." Filmed in Seattle around 1st & 2nd & Pike area partly. You will see that part of Seattle has always been grimy.
The homeless started sliding into Bellevue around 2013. Generally they were pretty invisible, one every 10-20 blocks. Then the methadone clinic got set up on the eastside. Seattle got tired of the homeless being shoved onto them. So now, we have a men's shelter/transitional housing in Bellevue, women and children up in Kirkland. The poverty and homeless issue should have been taken care of in the 1950s. Reaganomics really buggered up life for the middle class.
The captivating video you've shared underscores a pivotal truth - the challenges faced by cities like Seattle and Portland are intricately linked to the policies in place rather than a mere lack of financial resources. The Pacific Northwest, abundant in prosperity, is beckoning for astute leadership and innovative policies to restore the luster of cities now grappling with the consequences of misguided governance. This video sheds light on the pressing need for a paradigm shift in political strategies and the reconsideration of long-standing leadership choices. Despite the region's financial affluence, the cities find themselves ensnared in a web of detrimental policies, and the perpetuation of this cycle is attributed to a recurring selection of leaders who may not be steering the urban landscape towards a brighter future. The call for change resonates through your observations, emphasizing that the key to revitalizing these beautiful cities lies in the hands of the electorate. The importance of advocating for and embracing leaders with visionary policies cannot be overstated, offering a transformative alternative to the status quo.
Jeez some of those Zombies look like they got some piojo action going! It's best to keep a 200 mile buffer zone distance from Seattle, Tacoma, Vancouver, Spokane and Yakima! Those are the worst Zombie infested parts of Washington. If you took those cities out of the equation Washington State would almost be habitable for normal human beings!

You have to go to Gasworks park,..Alki beach,..the Burke Gilman trail along side of Lake Washington....but you're right,.it's too expensive to live here ,...but great in the summer on the beaches !!!
Dude chicago is your Unless your born and raised here your just a transplant. Most people in seattle are transplants
OMG! I live in Seattle. Good to see you in the area. I love your videos!
I'm here in Seattle too. I see a lot of focus on crime, drug usage, poverty. You can find that in most urban cities, it is not unique to just Seattle.
I live in Seattle , all I wanna say is you r lucky to be alive! 3rd and pike is very dangerous!
It’s really sad in Seattle. I avoid going in to town. It sickens me all the damage and waste. It used to be a beautiful fun place to hang out.
I'm from Seattle. You can find crime, homelessness, and drug usage in any urban city, it's not unique to just Seattle. Are there places that i wouldn't want to travel in Seattle at night? Sure, but the same can be said for a lot of cities.
Glad I was able to visit back in the day before it went to shit
@eric6345 Dubai has entered the chat
Truly became a shit hole on the past 5 years
I was born and raised in Seattle and spent alot of time at the market with my grandma. Love it there.
Man no lie that Clam Chowder looks really delicious i like that and that Salmon fish and chips hot and fresh too great video in Seattle Washington man enjoyed it first time watching your channel its awesome good stuff there
Hell yeah bruthaaa, thanks for coming to the zombie land city 💪
Primera vez que me sale la traducción de los subtítulos en español. Buena esa Carlos!, ya regresaste mi pana.
Fun Fact, thats actually the 2nd Starbucks techincally; the 1st one burnt down and then they moved there and got big..
Thanks for coming to visit my city. 🙏🏾
And the Des Moines marina.
I had to jump off a bus when a fight broke out between addicts. I avoid downtown and the buses now.
Makes me sad ! 😔 Misery Thank you for this honest view
Sabrina🇫🇷🇬🇧
Glad to see you back bro. Your vids never a miss 🔥🔥
Anyone know what that cowboy hat wearing singing banjo players name was??? sounded really good!
WTF..Seattle? Dude, you were just..EVERYWHERE! 👊✌😎
That clam chowder looked like it tasted FANTASTIC!
Good to see u up...live it up bro
Almoat a million subscribers, thank you Alejandra...was some great series with her as your side kick❤
sad that taxes go overseas instead of staying home. thanks for showing us bro. sending out the love ❤
I lived in Seattle for 18 years; truly missing home. thanks for the vid volpe! enjoy!
Come to San Francisco. Ill show you some more zombies 🧟♂️
Zombies that throw 💩
Ew for real? 🤢@@Theempiresf49
So I seen the word zombies in here but all I’m seeing is a food tasting connoisseur ! , bro your just making me hungry now lol 😆
Where is Alejandra?
It's been a while since we've seen her in a vid, what's going on with her?
Pregnant
I live in onalaska Washington hour and half from Seattle but because of all the crime and other i will never go to Seattle again.
My friends visit me in Des Moines because I’m near the marina. No zombies. Lots of bars and restaurants. None of us meet up in Seattle anymore.
I think Vancouver BC’s got the most zombies
Yes, I agree! I thought Ottawa was bad. Vancouver is worse!
Salmon $32.50 a pound?!!
Now that's insane!!
Yes, $500 A fish.
*It was much cheaper across the street where he got his fish and chips and chowder. King salmon was only 10.99/lb which is not bad.* 7:05
I thought that was for the whole fish. I had to go rewatch that part. F'n crazy! I get a slab of Columbia River steelhead for $11, whole fish for $22-25 in Olympia, WA, the Capital of Washington State.
Saludos de Idaho brother.
Trout fishing all summer.
3:30 A 6 inch sub for $20? They should include some Astroglide for that price.
Agreed just go to Portland and you see how bad it is.
Ah there u are you, thanks for sharing and good to see you hosting .
Austin a democrat spot lol that’s why lol
@@BrianJMader54476yall blame democrats for everything yet don't wanna fix ur own damn problems lol
It’s like this every where in the Bay Area. Such a shame. It’s definitely not getting any better.
Used to love visiting the wharf area, pikes market. Doubt I’ll ever go back these days.
Man thank you for coming close to home it was fun watching you some where I was in
Find a place on oregon coast
When you said “Zombie land” I wasn’t sure what to expect, but holy shit..that’s some serious problems. They looked legit like zombies, absolutely horrible situation!
Bro you got us waiting for that roberto collab. Need that lol
I am a northwest native and visit Seattle and Portland regularly. You have hit the underbelly of Seattle. Seattle and Portland OR are holmeless centers for the Northwest. Wish you would go back to South America or Europe!
I used to have a little Antique Booth in Pike Place Market...it was Fun but I just broke even and it was a lot of Work!
Hey that's my neck of the woods! You should come and look at Portland. Very similar vibes to Seattle but no taxes on anything! lol
You almost at 1 million subscribers 🤠🙂
I don’t understand why.
Volpe you have to upload more often bro! I miss your content! Cmon! Do it for us. The RUclips fam!
Seattle is too crazy for me you see some $hit in Miami Dade but not like that out in the open.
Saudações de Brasília.🇧🇷 Seu canal e show
Broo where is the beautiful Alejandra?
Seafood in Seattle sucks, everything in Seattle sucks.
You’re back!!! I missed your videos bro! It defff would be hard for me to pass up the BBQ. How does it compare to that salmon you got in Argentina?
Thats not the first Starbucks ever. The first one ever was around the corner but closed when it "moved." Welcome to the Blade homie.
compare this to vancouver bc canada just 2 hours north please.
You should check out Vancouver Canada some time bro its just a few hours north from Seattle
Looks like Vancouver, Canada, and most big cities in Canada
Welcome back bro. felt like a whole two years since you posted.
My fave(favorite) beer is Rainer,while I lived in Yakima n Seattle,WA in 2005-‘07
verry cool video. im in San Diego Ca and always wanted to visit Seattle.Wa. Thank you bro! hope u are doing well 💯✌Its sad what our cities have become. Dam crooked politicians .Cali, Wash, Oregon, smh...
Visit the neighborhoods, the locks, Golden Gardens park along the water, for example.
You should have taken a trip down Aurora Ave. It's like real life GTA.
I had some out of town guests from Georgia and they call it the Seattle lean
Salmon in fish & chips does not work for me at all, wrong kind of fish. Has to be white fish, Cod or Halibut, keep the Salmon for grilled or blackened, not breaded and deep fried, Salmon falvor just does not work in a fish & chips presentation, no batter on Salmon.
😅😂😅Where are the zombies???? Hilarious!
Trust me they are all over Seattle. They are sketchy and strange people so I'm assuming it's hard to just point a camera in their face. Especially since this guys never seen something like this before. He's just showing a couple streets in the city, but in reality it's happening all over that town on every street. They are taking fentanyl and horse tranq which makes them nod off standing up, it's very creepy even if you're use to seeing it.
i live 20 minutes north and i avoid Seattle like the plague. its not what it was in the 90s thats for sure..
I live just across the water like 30 min away and I hardly go there anymore
you gotta go up and down 3rd Ave to see and smell the worst of it
Canada is the same way Trudeau has destroyed are beautiful country. Love your show.
I heard Seattle was a nice place. Like 30, 40 years ago.
Yes. I used to work downtown, lived in various neighborhoods, the buses were safe. Great live music and theater.
I’ll have to go down and try out some of those salmon fish and chips
10:22 Carlos NEVER complains about food, so you know that had to be bad.
feels like your vlogs are becoming more and more food vlogs and that we only get to see when you eat
I got to see James Brown at a concert at the 1962 Seattle World's Fair. You're right Volpe. Beer battered Halibut is the way to go, scallops and clams too. When you head down to SF, Cioppino is a must try.
Hey Carlos, what you up to today? I see your in Seattle, boy didn’t. Know parts of it, got that bad with drugs, it’s Sad, just wanted to say : I love your videos and your channel, but are we ever gonna see Alejandra again, I miss you 2 together, on your trips ? Have a good one my Friend, and be safe👍👍🙏🙏😎😎🍮🍮❤️
$20 dollars for a sandwich? What is this world coming to!!?!!? He said he's heard there's some nice booery's in Seattle haha everything is so expensive... Ridiculous!! Never heard of Salmon & chips? There's a special "Ivars" Salmon house restaurant on the North side of Lake Union. Ivar's has been serving Salmon & chips as long as I can remember.
Got to go to 3rd ave at night to see the real deal! We don’t have any projects in Seattle, probably why there’s so many homeless.
Lots of projects in surrounding neighborhoods.
@@LilyGazou what neighborhood is that?
She caught the salmon wild with her own hand lol 😂😆
Drive 2 hours north to Vancouver(east Hastings) it's 5 times worse
You need to go to San Francisco to see some off the chart Homelessness.
Where’s Alejandra tho
