Took me a second to figure out why you guys chose New Orleans style, but then I remembered how New Orleans does funerals...Damn good theming and playing!
How do they do funerals up there?
Sometimes families choose to have a funeral procession followed by a jazz band in true New Orleans fashion. It's a fairly common tradition here.
beware the night its basically a big party/parade through the streets celebrating the past life of the dead person.
Don’t most places have funerals? I like in Oklahoma and I’ve never been to New Orleans but I have been to a funeral before lol
Sushi rose Life
... everywhere in the world people have funerals to get rid of the dead. ...You do know that right?
People in Louisiana has their own way of doing it.
Is it just me or is this version more of a “passionately hopeful” kind of vibe while the original is more of an “Angry and Determined” feel. Both are amazing. Great job!!
"Angry and determined" phrases the vibe of the original alomost perfectly. Well done!
Though to be fair, a New Orleans jazz band can sound just as angry and determined as a rock version can. Maybe the feeling is still there, it’s just REALLY subtle and not up front.
Well, MCR was and still kinda is a rock and roll band. Saw them back in the day headlining for someone and they really were in the rock and roll area. Kinda like Fallout Boy. They started very rock, but have changed to fit the times.
@@Roodj1 It's good they adapt. I don't listen much, but the hallmark of a good band is ability to adapt, even if it's rephrasing their thematic elements. Plus some riffs are just fun.
I think it's because that's how Gerard Way sang it.
A song about going on living after loss, translated into funeral jazz? This one pretty much wrote itself, and you nailed it.
I love how you can tell she knows how high the stakes are for this song
Not an easy song to sing and she did nail it.
We sincerely hope we've made all your emo dreams come true. Get this song and others on our brand new album, BLUE MIRROR, available everywhere
I think that a man was better for this song, just for the lyrics
huh, never heard this song before, seems to upbeat tune wise to be emo. The words are all right for a emo song though.
PostmodernJukebox, Since I‘ve never heard this song before, and because you covered it so well I now want to check out the original. How about in the future providing a link to the original in the description? Just a thought. 🙃
ruclips.net/video/RRKJiM9Njr8/видео.html
You won't be disappointed, checking out the original. It's still one of my favorite songs from that era.
Can't wait to see you guys in Youngstown in January!!! Top left balcony, look for us!!!
Oh god, I haven’t been g noted
Anne-Charlotte Breda it sucks tbh :c
Bryan Aguilar well it was different, but I think it’s a good cover ! They took the song, and made it something else !
Anne-Charlotte Breda tru tru
it's not even in the same key so they literally couldn't have g noted us if they wanted to
In this key the first note would be d, but yes they left out that iconic first note
Her voice is amazing, such an interesting pitch. With a lot of personality.
yeah - I THINK part of it is the Yat accent of New Orleans, which shares similarities with the New York accent; both were developed as port cities with large European immigration populations in the 19th century.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Orleans_English
She's absolutely glamorous and talented
Are you guys kidding? Joey was THE perfect voice for this. That awesome lift between carry and on. I love how she makes this her own.
If The black parade was in a Disney movie sound track
Literallyyyy, the style reminds me of the jungle book
Princess and the frog
weird flex but OK
So does that mean the original is in the style of Tim Burton?
@Perverted_Fangirl2158 So basically the lion king, but instead of wanting to be king, he will start a marching band
Ain't never seen a marching band with a piano ,Scott.
😑
either way isnt this more dixie land jazz than marching band?
They're usually in the pit on the sidelines. 😉
Back in high school we had a keyboard in the pit
A good part of it was New Orleans funeral march, which is very appropriate for the lyrics and PMJ style.
I wonder if 50 years from now in some jazz history class they'll be like "and scott Bradley was a band leader that kept older styles alive in the 2000's"
Most likely
Let’s hope so :)
When you're an emo kid in the 1900s
I say there old sport. You've been smoking those jazz cigarettes.
Yes 😂
That make me laugh too hard 😂
Never heard a jazzy up-beat song about death 😂
@@asahmosskmf4639 Then you've never heard Norteno Mexican music. Start with this... ruclips.net/video/90nx6xI31nA/видео.html
I can't believe you finally did it!!!
There's two drummers and BOTH are in frame!
Holy Jesus you're right
Drummers are...Unlocked! Maybe one day they'll have two drummers in frame and remember to credit both of them.
Madlads
They’ve mastered the “put them between the others” technique.
*Percussionists. 😉
I want this played at my funeral. And they had better dance at it.
you mean dance at it and while encouraging their smile and expecting them all to cry at you funereal jag =)
(that was "The end" joke)
amen for that
Oh really, me too.
We will give you a New Orleans style marching band funeral!
That was exactly what I was thinking.
I have listened to My Chemical Romance's version of this song....I couldn't begin to guess how many times....but I had never *heard* it before this version. It gave me happy tears. Joey Cook is as cute as button and the way she sings "on" is flippin' adorable. Her voice and this arrangement brought completely new light to this song for me.
My best friend committed suicide the day before this video was released. I consider it the perfect tribute song and a reminder that we have to carry on with our lives even after people we love leave it. I miss you lots buddy.
If you are reading this and are in a bad place please reach out to your friends or anybody because once you're broken and defeated you're weary widows must carry on. It's really unfair. Thanks for the feels PMJ. Now I cant hear this song without bawling like a baby.
Sending loves to You, and hugs, as well. I feel your loss. I am here for you
I'm very sorry.
I'm so sorry for your loss, hope everything is doing better now
Thank you. I've decided 5 years later to revisit this video and cry. Even though it's been 5 years, this wound still hurts. It doesn't get better, it just gets different. You will always be reminded of the person you lost... you just have to cope with it.
I went into a depression for a year. It was a very dark and sad time. My other friends have made it a lot more tolerable. There's always a thought of "I wish that person was here to see this, or do this with me". I would have dreams that my friend would just kinda... appear in a crowd and I'd run over and give him a big hug and ask where he's been. But then you wakeup and the reality hits you.
Just stay strong everyone. You gotta be the one that's living for you and your lost loved one.
Revisiting this as I sit in a hotel in Shreveport, waiting for the roads to be clear to go back home to New Orleans after Hurricane Ida. Bless this cover. Truly.
when you're emo but also classy
This group is tightly coordinated and sweet to hear. I love all the acoustic instruments, but mostly I love the singer's unique, warm voice. I'm not a professional musician, but used to perform as a "personality" whose voice was key to my work. Her delivery wrings every tiny meaning out of this incredible song! Wow, I have to keep listening, lol.🙇♀️
I love her crisp delivery, the lyrics are so important in this song
Aaaaand I'm 15 years old again. I can literally eat a whole pizza and run for miles, at 2am.
Y'know ... Years ago I had made an arrangement with my nieces and nephews to lead the funeral dirge singing this song, in the event of my untimely demise.
Turning it into a New Orleans style funeral dirge is just the way to kick it up a notch.
Very well done.
My first reaction was “What? That song doesn’t need a cover!” Now I’m wiping tears from my eyes because this is so gorgeous.
I love how PMJ just introduced me to a fascinating original song. And, now I understand how this PMJ song version oddly relates and refers to the original in creative ways.
If this ended up playing in the next season of Umbrella Academy...
Blue Snow omg I can see it.
i can see everyone dancing to this in their own rooms😂🤗🔥
I don't know if Gerard would be up to including MCR songs just yet
@@ballabogan Agree
Zac Birdman well 😉
I've been waiting for you guys to cover this song. I can feel Hot Topic, black band shirts, and studded leather wrist bands calling me back because of you guys
I clicked on the video and suddenly I'm wearing 5x the eyeliner I was before
katherine smith In the distance, we can hear the million screams of 8th graders as their mom’s take away the hair bleach they were going to use to look like Gerard Way
@@caesardlf179 oof did you have to call out my past self like that 😬😂
Spencer... Is that you?
To be honest, I never thought a marching band song would give me chills.
Love the sousaphone part. Dude's killing it.
I'm so happy to see Joey again. Her voice is so unique and oddly powerful. I've never heard the original, but I love this!
I hope by now you've heard the original! There's a YT channel that breaks down the whole album, his name is Wendogoon, and he has lovely content! Cheers!
Missing the iconic first note, but exceptional job once again PMJ!
Tricia A. I’m glad they did. They would have shattered my soul
i think they did it on purpose lol
You guys are unbelievable. Pmj deserve to be a genre in music. The music is so soothing.
What would we call it? Retro-Revival? No, POSTMODERN Revival!
Huh, so this is what Nonon Jakuzure did after she graduated from Kill La Kill's highschool.
New Orleans funerals have upbeat music like this as a tradition, it actually fits quite well.
This reminds me of Over The Garden Wall!
Me too! Lmao
I'm an elephant : brrrrrrrr
Sometimes when I listen to music, certain songs form a scene in my mind. Here is this one (which turned out longer than I thought it would when I began):
For many years now, our story's hero, Reg, has been living in an odd world that resembles something out of the 1920s, but with elements of the 40s and 50s, and occasionally things more modern. Despite the oddness of his city, he has lived very well, having great joys and great adventures. One evening, as the sun has almost set, he is walking through his city's largest park, and he sees and hears a band playing this song. The words are familiar, but the tune is not what he is accustomed to. They bring back memories of another life, a life in our world, and he begins to weep.
An old, wizened man in a Black Parade uniform, with the insignia of a railroad on his hat and a badge which reads "Conductor" walks up to Reg from behind the band, and they listen together.
In our world, Reg is lying upon a hospital bed, surrounded by loved ones and life support machines. Reg has been in a coma for several years now, and the doctors are going to pull the plug. His mother, remembering how he loved the music of MCR, is playing the original version of this song for him, hoping against all scientific odds that it somehow reaches him.
The song ends, and the plug is pulled.
The band in the park finishes playing, and the Conductor walks with Reg to the central train station. The streets of Reg's city are silent now, save for a faint breeze blowing through. Reg and the Conductor board a train, the only train in the station, the last train that will leave this station, and the train departs, bound for the Otherworld.
The Conductor hands Reg a bundle of papers.
"You received quite a number of telegrams, young man."
Reg reads through the papers, each of which is a message of loving farewell from each of his loved ones.
Reg cries, responding aloud to each message with his own statements of love.
"I love you too, Aunt Georgine."
"I love you too, Cindy."
"I love you too, Alex."
"I love you too, Mom and Dad."
The Otherworldly train passes the last building in Reg's city, and travels into the mists beyond.
This would make for a great music video!
This has been commented such long time ago but I still wanted to say damn this shitt was really beautiful to read. I really love your imagination
Utter joy to watch. 💜💖
I agree completely
Fancy seeing you here. Gosh I'm a year late. 🤣
Honestly the transition at 2:55 for "do or die" is my favourite part of the song, and has been stuck in my head for days.
*IF MCR AND Pretty. Odd. HAD A BABY!!!*
true !
I don’t get any pretty odd vibes from this at all like the aesthetic of the video fits but not the song itself
*Exactly.*
OMG YES
WAIT YOU RIGHT
Well Caitlyn Doughty will be proud. I found my funeral song. Thanks PMJ and MCR for this perfect combo.
Henlo fellow Deathling!
@@sarahunderwood8952 hello to you fellow deathling.
Hello there fellow Deathling ❤️.
I have found other deathlings! Woohoo!
Kudos to all the pianist that are on a marching band 😂
Bradlee's piano playing is exquisite
Love it. The piano brass and percussion are all on point and that voice is just so airy and fun, starting off this season strong y'all!
I screamed a little when I saw this. You guys made my emo heart so happy!
Made all of our emo hearts so happy.
That's an oxymoron.
I don't want to deliver bad news, but My Chemical Romance is not emo
Jack Black how are they not emo?
@@AaronPaulIbarrola Emo = Emotional, so i dont think its an oxymoron. Unless happy isnt a emotional anymore...did i miss a memo?
The perfect MCR cover doesn't exi...
I'm smiling like an idiot and tearing up at the same time. What a great surprise this was. Thank you for this.
That's it. This is the best video on RUclips. It's only downhill from now on. Thank you for everything.
It's not ALL down hill from here. A guy just made a ska punk version of My Shiny Teeth and Me
I'm so glad yall are back. Wish yall did teenagers. Still beautiful.
Crazy Good Cover 💐⭐️🎤⭐️
One of my favorite PMJ videos. Great arrangement. Musical geniuses. The words are great, too.
As soon as I saw “My Chemical Romance” I clicked. WHERE MY KILLJOYS AT??

KILLJOYS MAKE SOME NOISE!

So great to see the lovely Joey Cook back with PMJ. She always brings such joy.
I'm so obsessed with this cover. Her voice, the instruments, the way certain parts make me feel emotional, just everything. This is such a fantastic cover.
I listened to this a few weeks ago for the first time and had kept humming it and now today I've listened to it 3 times in a row. 😅
I love the way she sing "on"! It's everything
At first I saw "Welcome to the Black Parade" and I was like" whoa", then I saw Joey Cook and was like "damn".
At first I wasn’t feeling the New Orleans aspect, or even the marching band part, but I waited and then it was there. I felt it!!!
Joey Cook is by far one of my favorite singers from PMJ
I love Joey's unique voice and entrancing vocal fry. I missed her presence at PMJ! Hope we see her here again soon. ❤
Oh what fun! My optimistically macabre spirit is dancing away. Thanks October!
I adore this. I always wanted a Jazz style flourish as a finale for my funeral....I have requested that it be this particular version of a great song!!! Hopefully not too soon!
Listening to the lyrics sung this way made me remember why I loved this song in the first place. Moved me to tears. Truly the Millennial anthem.
It looks like such a bright sunny day, unlike the perpetual rain we've had for the past 4 months.
It's always amazing when you guys take a song or band i can't stand and make it amazing. Another one of those today. Loved it. Joey sounded great here!
Joey could sing me the phone book and it'd sound amazing. This was perfect. Every aspect, but damn does Joey have the best voice. Every PMJ cover with her is gold.
Hard to beat the winds, either. Can't say enough how much I love this.
Did I just go into the rawring 20s with a jazz cover of Black Parade? Yes. Yes I did and I regret NOTHING
This cover was the first MCR song I heard and almost a year later I’m totally obsessed with MCR XD
This is amazing! I honestly can't express just how much I love this! Such a deviation from the original! And of course you had the perfect vocalist for this!
As soon as she started the first thought that went through my mind was "Of course Joey is doing this! It's only proper."
I have so much more to say but I can't even put it into words.
This is easily up there in my favourite arrangements and performances from all of you!
Bravo! And may nothing but good fortune follow you all!
Your performances are so much fun, Joey, and I love the songs you perform. I don't know if you choose them or if you are chosen for them, but you do them so well either way. This was a fantastic choice of style for this song, the jazz and the themes of the song reminded me so much of seeing a New Orleans funeral procession, which I'm sure was the intention. Excellent arrangement as usual, Scott.
I love Joey Cook's PMJ videos. Such a unique voice.
The most apt song for a tonally different cover from MCRs catalog is Headfirst for Halos in my opinion. I can hear a tonally upbeat version in there somewhere totally at odd with the very dark lyrics.
emo 13-year-old me is crying (brings out the eyeliner)
Joey did a wonderful job on this, but I couldn't help but think Puddles could have reached the stratosphere.
vivajay I feel the same way!
So true! It's perfectly written just for him!
I didn't think about that but I agree!
true that
I'll bet P3 will do it.
Her voice is so unique and refresing! Awesome work by everyone involved.
Been watching. Your vids as far back as the burn cover and they just keep getting better and better.
as a new Orleans native I'll say this is more jazz club than marching band, but i think we all know that seeing as how there's a piano present lol
Very interesting, I liked it! Joey Cook really brings out the down-to-earth every-man singing that I think went well with the song.
Love the vocal and instrumental variation in this amazing cover.
I just came back from PMJ's tour concert in Skopje and to me this song was the best of the show. Joey has really perfected it with time and we were transfixed by her live performance!
What an amazing cover ! I love it !
It kinda makes me wonder what some emo french songs like "Dernière Danse" or "Le Chemin" from Kyo would soung like with the Postmodern Jukebox treatment.
Now everyone on the bus thinks I'm insane...
I'm not sorry PMJ AND MCR IN ONE VIDEO 🥰🥰🥰😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁
PMJ, you are my fuel to carry on through every bit of documentation I have to do in my job, and I have to say thank you for killing it week in and week out!
You're voice is my favourite! Please never stop belting it out girl!
seeing this just 2 days after mcr announced they're getting back together is amazing
THEY ARE BACK! Go back under that tree after 6 years and ressurect the marching stick!
Heard this live yesterday in Braga. You guys were amazing, as always, but this song stole the night for me. Joey, you're amazing. 😍
What a great voice. The Post modern Jukebox is a wonderous thing. The musicians are fantastic. The singers are unbelievable. I'm addicted.
oh im so in love with that piano ragtime plays at verse
The lack of G is unacceptable
Andrew J I find your lack of G, Disturbing.
New Orleans comes BLASTING through like a tsunami! Excellent!
This is amazing! Great work there guys MCR goes so smooth with the jazz
THIS IS PURE ART
Wow. This was spectacular.
Wasn't expecting to like this quite as much as I do. Super job.
I needed this version. Spectacular! Thank you
I could not help thinking the singer looked a bit like Nonon from Kill la Kill, lol.
But ignore me being a loser; I really enjoyed this cover!
It will make you happy to know she saw this comment and posted a side by side on her personal fb
Omg she does!
Some parts of this reminded me of Keep Holding On by Avril Levigne
Finaly you did it! It‘s amazing, I love it!
This works on so many levels
I feel as though I love all the covers everyone else hates and vice versa. I've been pretty underwhelmed lately but I genuinely enjoyed this and the new Wayne Brady cover.
YAAAAAAASSS JOEY COOK IS BACK
Beautiful voice, love. I love the sass, and I love the jazz.
I've been waiting for a cover of this song from you for ages and IT DOES NOT DISAPPOINT!!!! It's everything I wanted and more
