I’ve bought the new Gen 3 Combat Troodon and the Gen 3 Scarab 2 and I love both of them! I love the slim feeling size of the Combat Troodon but I also love the massive, robust feeling of the Scarab 2! They’re both awesome knives! They both operate so smoothly! I love big blade knives! I also recently bought a Dirac Delta just for another big otf that is cc different with the face firing button! Thank you for the informative video, keep up the good work!

Actually my first video i’ve seen from you was scarab 2 look inside. Can’t wait to show us again how it’s done dude! I appreciate you.

That’s a valid point! I love how smooth and easy the gen three is personally. My dog can’t open it. BUT I will say: NO Microtech OTF I’ve got, and I’ve ALOT, fires like my original 20 year old, beat up sacarab executive edition. The blade spits out angrily and aggressively with a distinctive “shrink pop” sound. So crisp. I also learned that thumb trick way back-better leverage! Thank you.

I have a 2019 CT, and a brand new CT. The new one is noticeable easier to actuate. BUT! The 2019 fires substantially harder. A function of the increased load on the shorter and stouter internal spring.

@@edged_mindset especially with the CT you’re right. I know the dual springs Is definitely nicer, easier actuation with a more powerful feel, but I’ve heard different things online about it where dual springs means there’s a double chance for spring failure, which I can’t argue with. Especially compared to the singular large spring in the gen 2. Very happy I own a gen 2 just in case the gen 3 ages poorly but we will have to see. the new microtech gen 3 are made for sofa troops, urban survivalists, and probably for children, because who else needs a lighter button at the price of a narrower blade? who needs a 0 backlash system if it jams from a small crumb getting into it, what is the new steel with a hardness of 58hrc for? It is probably easier to make a knife from mild steel, and people who buy new versions will not use them anyway

Great review as always. Lost a lot of respect for Microtech based on multiple quality control failures I’ve experienced over the years. Lost even more respect after hearing their foolish, hard-on marketing lingo. “Duel fuel drivetrain”. It’s a duel spring mechanism for goodness sake! Drivetrain lol. I’ll stick to my gen 2 Scarabs/Combats and ofc the Dirac Delta. I don’t trust current Microtech tactics enough to take a chance with their gen3 pieces. Especially after all that blade bounce back on Hera2s.

I play guitar daily, and I work construction for a living. I visit the gym, at least twice a week. I’m not the largest man, but by far not the smallest. I mentioned in a previous comment that I gave away a combat Troodon. I didn’t mention why. It was because the mechanism was so hard to deploy that I felt to be a useless tool. in fact, I feel horrible that my friend I gave the knife to cut his tendon, and no longer has use of his left index finger. He was trying to retract the blade. he was using both fans both thumbs on the button and so much force was applied to retract the blade that when it did both his index fingers were shoved up and the blade caught his left one. This is toll not safe. I believe this one got by quality control. This Knife should’ve never left microtech. I’ve have handle plenty of other out the front knives including microtech. The combat Troon I gave away had a defect because other combat protons. I have handled the ploy and retract much better. I guess my point is I’m glad they are finally addressing a flood system, if no one can’t handle their knives, it reduces their customer base. I like microtech and I hope I can buy a quality knife that has actually gone through quality control and passes and is actually safe for the consumer in the future. as far as people saying that they want the knife to be harder to deploy than I can’t really agree with that. I seen a comment where someone said they have it hard to deploy because their child may get a hold of it. For one thing, you should never leave your knife out where your child can get a hold of it. I keep all my firearms and a safe and have trigger locks so my children cannot get a hold of any of my firearms. I also have my knife collection in a safe and only wear one per day. Anyone who leaves a knife out where a child can get a hold of it is negligent. Then again, I have plenty of kitchen knives in my drawer that any child has access to. The thing is that you have to teach your children that they are not toys and if they are so small that they don’t understand you must make it safe, so they never have an opportunity to handle them. That’s what responsible parents do. Negligent parents are due to have consequences for their lack of actions.
