The extra blade is because if you look, the new blade is able to sit deeper inside the handle. It’s milled out more at the glass breaker end
I don't know how you could miss it I see huge differences. maybe it's because I'm used to taking apart fishing reel and putting them back together with one eye shut the other one squinted!
The thinner and longer springs would require less force to operate, and then with two would allow that hard hitting to still happen. 👍 Simple change allows for a completely different operation it seems.
Mechanical advantage in operation, less force to open and close with more mass… kinda like a pulley system…
Thank you for doing this! As a Microtech fan I was curious what the inside of these new models looks like
Thanks for the video, I just found a gen 3 today, at a knife show and was just blown away by the action. The knife dealer told me that the better action was because of three improvements. The lighter dual springs, a longer button tract (to give the lighter springs more power), and the added ribbing in the button tract to reduce the surface contact area (i.e. reduce friction). What I noticed was that the blade, when deployed, the up/down blade play was reversed from up only, to down only (that's a small detail that only a person who prefers a single edged "working" knife would notice) That's because the gate on the button end of the knife was moved from the top of the frame to the bottom. I was so impressed that I told the dealer that this is "my knife" and I gave him, "his money".
Sounds like they took some adjustments from the Infidel.😂
I'm probably in the minority but I really don't like the new clips. I like the old style clips. I think they were great. Now I haven't used the new style clip on the OTF but I don't like that style of clip in general
Same. I don't know why but it reminds me of some flea market pocket clip...
Been waiting for a disassembly video since they announced the new action. Thanks!!!
same internals in the kershaw limewire I just took it apart and compared it with my new troodon
Interesting......
Do you have a video on knife repair tools that are essential?
5:56 I hate to be this guy, sincerely, but that switch pin (little piece of metal protruding from the carriage where the switch makes contact) seems much, much smaller on the newer one. I’ve worked in metallurgical design in the past and that concerns me. Even with a higher quality steel, it’s an unnecessary weak point. Granted, I don’t have it in my hands and can’t measure it, but I will say with confidence that it’s a poorer design than the old model and should be improved.
The crazy thing is, counterfeits are already on the market. Nothing is sacred anymore 😢
For real!
They didn't put any of the white lithium grease on the newer springs. Guess that explains the twanging noise in the Hera II as well. 👍🤠 I guess worst case, you need to clean it off with a little rem oil... 😁
EDGED mindset, thank you for doing the first " that I have seen " break down video of the Combat Troodon, I have been very curious as to how it was different inside.
Very welcome
Great video for the new mechanism! What‘s the brand of the grease applied on the springs?
Permatex. Got it from AutoZone I believe.
Notice the new blade has more edge, and is physically about the same length.
My guess is in the new action, the blade is pushed farther out the handle.
That would raise the question about stiffness?
the UTX 2 steps have also the new internals ???
Not that I know of but I havnt been paying as close attention to microtech lately
The stop pin in the blade likely engages the handle at a more forward point; so more blade comes out of the handle. Combined with the deeper retraction at the rear. That's my assumption. We haven't gotten any of these in yet to verify but hopefully soon.
Great observation!
Thanks for the teardown brother I was wondering what the difference was also!! 😎👊🏼
Thanks for the watch!
I want a Troodon, but man they high... and if you want the 142-16DLCTULS, it hurts feelings lol
They're getting more room because of the cut out on the back end
very good observation... to me this is valuable content.. I have a channel, too.. COOL
Thanks! I will give you a sub
My Gen 3 is so much easier to open than my Gen 2 I have tried many otf"s but The Gen 3 is a EDC . Kudos To Microtech .I do like the Gen 2 Body better But the easy action is a keeper .
8:12 swear if you open it up again that spring is sitting off side to the right.. seems to still be working though..
🤔
does new type of spring and button pressure still gives tight feelings of old combat troodon?
because i kinda liked how it grips with strong tension
No, I would say not. It's a much lighter spring action
@@edged_mindset damn, well some ppl who struggles to operate it would like it but that strong tension and speed of the blade popping out wont be the same , thats shame!
The new manufacture gen3 troodon's have grease from the factory now btw
Good to know!
Cool instruction Tanke You For the Information Greetings from Pirmin from Switzerland 🇨🇭
Thanks for watching!
@@edged_mindset You Welcome You Making Awesome Videos
@@edged_mindseti like that blue combat troodon 👀 lol
@@paulsouders3489 Thanks!
The KNIFE that means the MOST to me #switchblade #knifeskills #otf #microtech
I haven’t seen the new one yet… does it fire more like the scarab 2 or more like the old combat Troodon?
Like neither, action is smoother and easier than any Microtech done before
Braver than I am. That looks like witchcraft
😅
When I took mine apart, there is a good-sized glob of grease in there. I'm not sure why yours didn't.
The grease guy must have had the day off
@@edged_mindset 😂 right.
Thanks for the update!
You bet!
Nice. Thanks.
Where is the serial number?
There isn't one. Kinda bummed, I was hoping to.get a low number
Loving the new carriage....
Same
Still nobody has any for sale. 😢
Bladehq does now
Ekives has them
Oooh thanks, wanted to see it !!
Hope you like it!
@@edged_mindset Yes, and I'm as "disapointed" as you : no magic actually xD
Is the belt clip on the gen 3 ambi for left pocket carry?
Yes! You just undo the big screw on both sides and flip the clip around
